A contemporary reimagining of Henry James' novel, WHAT MAISIE KNEW tells the story of a captivating little girl's struggle for grace in the midst of her parents' bitter custody battle. Told through the eyes of the title's heroine, Maisie navigates this ever-widening turmoil with a six-year-old's innocence, charm and generosity of spirit. An aging rock star (Moore) and a contemporary art dealer (Coogan)-Susanna and Beale are too self-involved even to notice their neglect and inadequacy as parents; their fight for Maisie is just another battle in an epic war of personalities. As they raise the stakes by taking on inappropriate new partners, the ex-nanny Margo and the much younger bartender Lincoln (Vanderham and Skarsgård), the shuffling of Maisie from household to household becomes more and more callous, the consequences more and more troubling. Always watchful, however, Maisie begins to understand that the path through this morass of adult childishness and selfish blindness will have to be of her own making. Directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, written by Carroll Cartwright and Nancy Doyne, and from the producers of The Kids Are All Right, WHAT MAISIE KNEW is a heartbreaking but redemptive story of family, self-sacrifice, and the indelibility of one child's love, starring Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgård, Steve Coogan and Joanna Vanderham, introducing Onata Aprile as "Maisie."

He's a kind person. Not your typical actor. He's thoughtful and directs attention to her. I like the way he looks at her when he speaks to her. He's not all about himself. So refreshing. He treats the girl with respect.

I absolutely adored this movie. The acting from the actors and actresses in this was superb. Alexander is very humble & its very obvious that he adores children. He treats Onata (she has Japanese heritage) here as exactly what she is... adorable. just pure class all the way. btw this was a remake but tell you what I couldn't get enough of this movie. She grabbed your heart and would not let it go. children are precious and we adults should treat them as such. yes. please remember when WE were children.

In an interview that was done with his brother Gustaf his brother said that Alex was the one that raised his siblings, and that Alex is phenomenal with kids especially his nieces and nephews. In any interview, meet and greet, or anything that involves children you can really see that in him, it's apart of him that really shines.

That just makes sense since he's the oldest. Prob also explains why he doesnt have kids. People who grew up raising younger siblings think twice about parenthood.

@@charmedlilsis1 I always thought that. Glad someone else thinks so too. He has so many siblings and from ages of 40 to 10 poor guy probably raising them while parents worked. That happens with people with many siblings. Even in my family my uncle raised his 9 siblings. Maybe that's why he doesn't have kids now he has already done it all. But he loves them just like me.

Watched this movie yesterday new years resolution to have my Alexander Skarsgard appreciation time. The relationship between them in and off set it adorable .. After watching Generation Kill and the Kill Team was wonderful to see this softer side.

My God, he's so natural with kids, really tried to make nervous Onata feel comfortable and "normal"!! He'll make an amazing dad one day! FYI: I thought the interviewer did a good job with her, too!
