In OOTP, identifying who can be a roleplayer and who can lead your team to success can sometimes be difficult. While things are generally more complicated, these guidelines can help you find the types of players who will almost always work in the role you need them for.

I have found that the number one thing that makes a starting pitcher effective in OOTP is *not* having a torn UCL or rotator cuff. 😄

That is definitely one of the things that doesn't help. I was actually planning to make a video on this some time soon.

Those are NOTHING compared to torn Labrums especially if a surgery is required. Career ender. Seen 80s slide down to a 41 overall the next year.

I often wonder why random vets tend to win Cys when my pitchers with 3-5 plus plus pitches and great numbers don't. Great explanation, can't wait for OOTP24!!

Good video. Would love an update to the defense video from the pre-release if anything changed.

Can anyone here point me in the right direction to understand how RP fatigue affects a starting pitcher? In my fictional league I sometimes see starters brought in as relief pitchers (I have very rarely done this myself only in emergency extra inning situations). When I look at my opponent's substitution screen I added SP fatigue and RP fatigue and their starters all have low RP fatigue %,, but good SP fatigue. I just can't seem to find any explanation on how these two stats interact. Surely a starting pitcher with low RP fatigue has some affect on his ability to start, right?

Do you read the comments? I have a question that I can't get an answer to. Batters have a spray chart in their batting stats tab. Is there any way to check a pitchers actual pitch usage? Example: how often does a pitcher with 3 pitches (FB, slider, change) actually throw each pitch in an 80-90 pitch outing? I ask this question because as a player that always plays Colorado I can't understand how often pitchers get beat in crucial situations with their worse pitch. Is this something that comes under catcher ratings? Is there something I am missing? And, this is my 10th year of playing.

There's no way to check pitcher pitch usage. For the record, it doesn't really matter, since the way a pitcher's success is determined has nothing to do with which pitches he throws, but rather the aggregate affect on K% (and movement and control for HR% and BB%).

@@sgtmushroom Thanks for the reply and insight. Since I,ve recently played 2 seasons of a save that took nearly 3 months to play out I had started to notice (particularly Coors Field) how often a pitchers least effective pitch went great distances. And, how often it happened on 0-2, 1-2 pitches. This actually reflected a Rockies problem that started about the time of Ubaldo Jimenez that went with a particular theory about pitching there. As an ex HS, Junior College catcher now 70 I can still remember my JC coach getting in my face before a game yelling "beat em with heat". Thanks for letting me talk a bit, I'm currently simming a new save so I can start an expansion using your settings

When you say 'good' defense, what do you mean by good?

Great defense would be : SS with 80+ range/ strong arm -- CF with 80+ range/ good error rate -- C with 70+ catcher ability Good defense would be the same but maybe 70 values instead of 80's and a C ability of say 62-65 My opinion anyway
