Great video! I made 'stave bolts' during my teenage years (1960's).The main requirement was the 'stave bolts' had to be free of knots or the bolts were split were the knots were on the edge of the 'split' allowing the barrell saw to cut the knot out on the saw's first pass. Occasionally a 'high quality post oak' could be 'snuck' into the load. But it seems everything is done at the mill now. The bolts I made were 39" long each allowing for double end trimming.

Really appreciate breaking everything down in your videos like you do. I've always had questions but no one really explains it like you. 👍👍

Prime white oak logs are going anywhere around $1,200-$1,000 per 1,000 ft and Select white oak $800 per 1,000 ft here in Kentucky. That’s a beauty you cut there.

Hey Nuts good vidja on yer stave log market. Up here in west Wisconsin, we have a pretty good market also, where the local sawmill has a stave makin operation. So we send most of the white oak logs there reguadless of the grades.

Good explanation. What's the difference between rot and dought(sp?) After its bourbon duty is done, many barrels go to Scotland for scotch. Now that's recycling!

I don't think we have that market up here ...too bad.Where I live in the Laurentian Mountains there are very few white oaks but I cut a lot in Eastern Ontario and they only go for saw logs as far as I know.

What is the approximate value of that 9 foot veneer log and 25 foot stave log ?
@nuts3194 жыл бұрын
At the time veneer was around 3$ a bf and stave was about 1.85$ a bf not sure what the footage was

When you get a lot of cats eyes in the the log they are not that desirable usually when you find a good log there will be a bunch of them in and area, were I live in PA. southern part of the state has better logs than the northern not to say there are none in the northern its they come in bunches, I always thought it was the soil they grow in.
