It's been very rainy in Los Angeles and the parts of us that used to be able to tolerate it are long gone. And a story about Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sharing a photo of what he believes is an elf, we get into a deep discussion about what makes an elf an elf (and hobbits catch a stray).

It was not and Elf. At leats, to make the joke, name it as it is: Aluxe. *These are small mythological creatures from the Yucatan Peninsula that are generally invisible but can assume a physical form similar to that of the Mayans in their traditional clothing, but in miniature.* Not the fucking same.

Hi love to come on the show to clear this up. I took the picture in my front yard in sycamore ga. I couldn’t believe that I gave one interview via KZfaq and out of all ppl the president of Mexico stole my photo! I gave an interview about a terrific experience At night with Von episode 2 beyond darkness. It’s my true story and I have the photo copyright and hopefully I will find a lawyer soon

as a mexican and fan of Tolkien, the elves described by Lord of the Rings are pretty accurate with the original Elves from norse mythology. And what the Mexican president was talking about was a Mayan creature called Aluxe, the "x" is pronounced like a "sh" in English and the "e" is pronounced like the "e" in pet. Which is more like a goblin than an elf.

Mexican here, explaining to gringos. The Mexican president, who is like our Trump even if he is leftist, never said ELF, when we wanna say ELF in Spanish we say "ELFO" he said the word Aluxe, which is a creature from Mayan mythology. Due to Spanish colonization, the Aluxe myth has copied a lot from Spanish "duende" which is more like a goblin or leprechaun, not an elf. The elves come from norse mythology and those are the inspiration for Tolkien's work.

Don’t get me wrong, James. I love you and I love your show. It just broke my heart that you compared the Aluxes to elfs, and mocked about it. We Mexicans have strong believes because that’s our culture. And yeah maybe our president should be talking about more important matters, but the picture was just showing respect to the Mayan culture. An Aluxe is not the same as an elf. An Aluxe is a spirit, one that many of our indigenous people still believe in and they respect them. Even if we mock aluxes at least do it properly.
