Watch this overview of the CEODD selection course known as Navy Dive Prep, attended by Navy EOD Techs, Divers, and Diving Medical Technicians (HM-ATF).
Directly after boot camp, students of these three programs enter their most failed portion of training.
After CEODD, successful candidates proceed to Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC). Over half of students don't make it to NDSTC.
Familiarize yourself with 5 highly failed evolutions as well as the single training exercise that causes the most candidates to quit.
Subscribe now to not miss when I upload new content like this video. Also, comment with any follow-on questions and I will do my best to answer them.
****AN IMPORTANT NOTE****
All of the training discussed in this video is supervised by specially trained high-risk instructors with medical personnel on-site. This type of training should only be conducted under the supervision of qualified instructors.

wish this video came out before I shipped lol attrition rate is much higher now lol especially if you're EOD. You all go through the same selection, but because there's typically more EOD candidates they try to get some to quit before selection even starts. But I hear they actually have a pretty good prep now so it might be different than when I went.

There are no NDs on submarines. The boat sends people to dive school as a collateral duty. I went with next to no notice and was not prepared at all. I was class two swim qualled but having no physical training for dive school and no mental prep it was overwhelming. I DORed if I'm being honest. Can't change the past though. Hope to get the chance to go back someday and redeem myself.

This happens often. People assume since SC (scuba) qual isn’t “full-blown dive school” it must not be difficult. It’s all difficult, it’s only too difficult without proper preparation. Your honesty and humility will serve you well and I hope you get a second crack at it!

watching this while at CEODD, shitting my pants rn👍 they got rid of dive mo at bootcamp, so I haven't touched a pool in 11 weeks. So the goal of drown-proofing is to get you into a mindset that allows you to tread almost indefinitely by regulating your buoyancy through breathing and staying calm. That being said, I believe the drown-proofing test window to be around 4-5 minutes. Again, once you get a proper technique, the test duration is somewhat immaterial.

If the over unders are not a pass fail evolution then why is there so many DORs?
@brasstacks8136
@brasstacks8136 2 жыл бұрын
Firstly, because pressure and stress are high. It’s not conducted in an environment that is known for its “you’ve got this buddy” mentality. When you surface before you’re supposed to (not the full length) things can go from bad to worse in highly creative ways. Secondly, any show of panic can satisfy and involuntary DOR.

@brasstacks8136
@brasstacks8136 3 жыл бұрын
Negative. As far as HM-ATF goes, only DMTs attend CEODD. HM-ATF SARC candidates report to Camp Pendleton, CA directly after boot camp. They jump into the field med, recon, SERE, airborne, combat diver, and ARC before starting SOC Medic training.

Begin w 1 minute breaks and tread while resting. Have a partner watch you and also start reading the US Navy Dive Manual because it’s important info they expect you to know. Is the pool for the over unders 25 yards?
@brasstacks8136
@brasstacks8136 3 жыл бұрын
Negative, over/unders will be done perpendicular to the normal direction of swimming (this keeps you in the deep end the entire time). Your class is split on either side of the deep end with no one in the shallow section for the exercise. So, it’s shorter than 25yrds.

Can you give tips on how to deal with a charged mask? or maybe a video on it ?
@eaglesauce7948
@eaglesauce7948 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, most of charged mask competence/confidence comes from exposing yourself to the sensation of water trying to force its way down your throat via your nostrils. In essence, getting comfortable being uncomfortable. In the months leading up to dive school (a while ago for me) I would shower and brush my teeth with a mask full of water. This eventually developed the muscle coordination required to prevent backflow while doing simple things or even speaking coherently with a charged mask. If you do this USE DISTILLED WATER to prevent sinus infections. I hope that helps!

So would you say most people DOR or fail and get removed?
@brasstacks8136
@brasstacks8136 2 жыл бұрын
There seems to be a larger section that exits the pipeline via DOR. There are VOLUNTARY and INVOLUNTARY DORs. If you exhibit panic or are a safety concern, you can be involuntarily dropped without technically failing an evolution. This can vary from class to class though as there are often a good amount of PST failures that never progress to the difficult stuff. The PST strictness at CEODD is no joke.
