This is one of my favorite songs from Em. From the female vocalist. Her smoky delivery. The feeling of care in her voice. To the beat. The rain, the piano, a simple drum beat. Then you have Em doing his thing. While telling a story that evolves. I'm an old head. Tell me story, keep me engaged. Give me something to relate to. Em is elite at this.

I think it depicted him telling his past story through a recording (that noise is similar to the kind that came out of a recording, complete with the little statics), and at the last verse he's back to the present day...

Same, but i think I was expecting recovery, again...but overtime the MMLP 2 became one of my favorite albums, in general, and legacy is probably my favorite Eminem song. 😁

@@henfarasubtitrare9764 recovery started that wordplay so I always loved recovery .. relapse finally had some love even with less or no wordplay at all but the rhyme schemes and beats damn.. mmlp2 had the content and wordplay too .. I know the production is part of the hate now adays but I’m more in it for lyrics and flow/ cadences

I remember someone pointing out that Em’s voice changed from each verse.. at first it was muffled.. lower volume.. then when he gets his confidence and strength from the music his voice gets louder and clearer because he knows now what he’s here to do .. his future like his voice is clear now .. the Details is what makes Em different from the rest .. 🔥🐐

The MMLP2 is such a good album. This song in particular stuck out to me, since, much like Eminem himself, it is very open and real. I also feel like it could highlight Eminem as being neurodivergent, potentially, and, as someone who is neurodivergent myself, that's a really beautiful thing to me. Regardless, keep up the great breakdowns, Knox! You truly are a master at this, and I always look forward to seeing every new video from you 😊

YAy! You're actually the ONLY reactor who picked up on the female vocalist's parts are hiphop speaking to Eminem, talking about her legacy to him - and now he's passing it on. I feel so validated because I've been slinging that personal theory wherever I can and finally someone on the videos said it themselves. It's a very favorite song of mine, and that last line "the best part about me is I'm not you, I'm me" is just so powerful. Always gets me.

Your description reminds me of "still don't give a fuck" as well, which actually starts out almost awkward with the rhyme flow. I've often wondered if he does that on purpose for the build up and if the later parts would still hit as hard without that awkwardness leading up to it. I think it's on purpose maybe because off the top of my head I think must be the ganja and my darling do the same thing

Honestly I completely agree, Em's earlier stuff is of course amazing but there's just something special about MMLP2 that makes it my favorite, Evil Twin and Legacy are probably my two favorites songs on the album.

Def one of my favorite Em songs, absolutely love the way he used the, almost muffled, filter on his voice throughout the song. Knox with the best breakdown per usual, you are a genius on the art of hip-hop. 💯 Edit: Also that “Fire Marshall” line could have literally meant he is firing Marshall and Slim Shady is coming back. Could be a stretch, but I always thought of that as a triple.

I just started watching reaction videos a couple of weeks ago & quickly found that Eminem reactions are my favorite, & yours are my favorite reactions. I’ve noticed that Eminem seems to be beloved by low-brow & high-brow hip-hop fans, but really alienated a lot of middle-brow fans, many of whom, I suspect, think they are sophisticated.

The way they mixed his vocals sounds a little muffled and they have a lot of tube on them, until the third verse his vocals become a lot clearer. Leading me to believe it’s on purpose, to show is clearer to him now, hence the vocals being clearer as well

Each verse gets clearer/less muddy in the mix also because he's getting older as he goes through the song and gets access to better recording equipment, in a sense. I love this song!

I always liked how in verse one he sounds almost shy with no confidence but then verse 2 that shyness fades some and the confidence grows a little then verse 3 his voice is loud and clear with confidence compared to the low softness of one.

I fucking love this song. You can always make the argument that I’m reading too much into it, but this song comes across as a recounting of growing up with undiagnosed autism. Being “differently wired”, being non-compliant and difficult with his mom, being shy and awkward at school, coming home and being nonverbal after getting shoved in a locker for “eyeballing” a kid (making inappropriate eye contact), ruminating excessively over small issues, restricted interests in terms of escaping in comic books and writing rhymes non-stop, etc. I’ve seen the theory mentioned a couple times and personally I relate.

there's another song very similar to this one that i would love to see you breakdown. its called Going Through Changes, off of his recovery album. its one of my favorites of his, and its very emotional, as well as having some good bars, and i think if you like songs like this, you would also love that one. Also do you notice how in the beginning of the song when Em starts out the beats soft and calmer and he's rapping a bit quieter it's like he seems a bit nervous and that's because it's young Em who just started out. Then by the end the beat changes becomes louder and more coherent and at the same time Emniem's loud and aggressive and he's rapping with such confidence and power . It fits into the story he's telling in the song the story of him being young going through shit, being bullied and abandoned by his dad and then finding his rhymes to give him confidence and the drive to keep going. So it starts out as a young, nervous and new to the game Em and then by the end it's him the rapper who know and love now whose crushing the game and he's confident in himself and nothings stopping him.

Knox Hill my man. What are we going to do when EM decides to call it a day???? I can still remember the first time I heard My Name Is. I was walking to work having a horrible day and I heard it coming from a car. I made sure to find out who it was. Since that day I've followed EMs career. To me the the mix of low-fi in the first verse to mid and then hi-fi in the last verse can represent his confidence as he goes from being bullied to becoming a successful artist and being able to show that he has not let it affect him.

after Em says "he said sayonara then split" you can hear two voices saying "I don't give a shit", as if Eminem says he does not give a shit and at the same time his father says "i dont give a shit" leaving Em behind and splitting up it's also crazy that that he says "the most high exaltin' and I ain't haltin' 'Til I die of exhaustion, inhale my exhaust fumes" and 10 years later he's still unmatched, even more than before
