One other thing. The chorus where I’m playing the chords under the lead, is actually a 12 string Rickenbacker! That’s what gives it that almost phaser, but not quite sound. Overall, phenomenal breakdown of one of my prouder moments in songwriting! :) 🤘🎸

Hey man! Thanks for taking the time to analyze my song. That crazy effect I’m using all over and for the middle breakdown is an FM-4 filter/synth/mod by line 6. A couple effects I actually built myself within the pedal. It’s interesting seeing the song broken down so musically I thoroughly enjoyed it and keep up the good work mate!!! - Thomas Erak (The Fall of Troy)

Hey Thomas! Almost missed these comments! Thank you for the info about the track. Makes sense now 😅 Thanks for sitting through my awkwardness. Haha! Want to say you've been a huge influence on the way I play guitar, in fact, it was The Fall Of Troy that lead me down the road of math rock so thanks for that! Fun fact I once played what sound does a masterdon make for a solo piece at university! Hope you have a great 2021. Hit me up if you ever want to do a collaboration on anything 😉. Thanks again. Best, Steve

This is honestly the first math-rock song I ever listened to back when I was like 10 and guitar hero 3 came out, at the time I didn’t really care about this song in guitar hero but over time playing that game for hundreds of hours it grew on me. I didn’t even know this was mathrock, I didn’t find out till I started to do a shit ton of research into mathrock back when i found Chon in like 2013 and started to look into all the bands we know today in mathrock that are awesome.

@@LetsTalkAboutMathRock absolutely! Manipulator does so much differently too, you have the typical FoT sound but with some twists of an obvious Pink Floyd influenced track in Quarter Past and the Oh, the Casino! which, to me, sounds like early Weezer shaped that track. But, honestly, if Manipulator only had 1 song and it was A Man a Plan a Canal Panama, it would still be my favorite FoT album

I really started to notice it lately but the slapback delay on vocals is so awesome and cozy in a way and it's cause it reminds me of being little and being at festivals or carnivals or faires and hearing live bands for the first time and it had that same sound as a live band it feels more human less polished I guess but it's brilliant definitely something I'd like to do with vocals. I just started watching your channel yesterday, will get alot of views from me,lol..love it man, keep it up. And Rick won't mind,I'm sure you guys will be able to do your own thing and not step on his toes. Even if he did the same song once in awhile would be cool to see diff views on the same song once in awhile. Anyways, I'm also new into math Rock, but I've been a musician for a few decades..mainly just punk and metal..but I split my practice between drums, guitar, and bass, and record at home. If you ever need help with bass lines I may be able to oblige. Anyways, Faraquet is my recommendation for songs to cover, and would have to be their most popular song that you already had in your vid of 5 best intros from 99 to 07. Cut Self Not. They are the first band that got me into this stuff,so I am brand new to this genre, so anyone that reads this feel free to make recommendations for bands for me. Keep in mind I'm open to all math Rock bands, but I def prefer the more aggro ones more..atleast for now, which us why I'm on this video, lol. This songs pretty aggressive yet still has those "math Rock chords " and feel to math Rock totally. I know of Don Cab, Lynx, Battles, American Football, and Blink 182 as math Rock bands already. Let me know of others to check out.thanks!! (If you didn't automatically click off this post whenisaid Blink 182 I'd be shocked, lol..was a joke of course.😁)

Please keep this series going! One bit of feedback for next time - the audio playback from the song is waaaaay too quiet and muddy. I know you’re using the ambient sound of your speakers playing the song back in the room, but I think it’d go a loooong way towards getting to Rick Beato’s level if you either mic up your speakers, or overdub the clips from the song in post-production.

Hello Steve. Do you by chance know of any good luthier in Korea than can fix up a few guitars? I got my Godin and Tele set up at a music shop and it has ruined the action. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should also talk more about the rhythm! Especially that weird 3/16 bar at the end of every phrase in the bridge

You mean a a bar of 2/4 with 2 triplets, it was something I put in to talk about but missed it.

Let's Talk About Math Rock I’m talking about the section that starts at 2:03. If you listen carefully, it’s 3 bars of 3/4, and then 1 quick bar of 3/16. Essentially they are just chopping off 1 sixteenth note. Very cool stuff.

The vocals don't actually get pitch shifted down and up at the end in the official song (I just checked on iTunes), maybe you got a slightly weird version of the tracks?
