Introducing gaming in Finnish schools creates new opportunities for both students, teachers and tech veterans. Imagine studying subjects like chemistry and physics while playing at the same time. In this video, we went to International School of Vantaa to figure out how science-based games influence learning processes in 5th grade kids.

3:23 _" _*_International School_*_ of Vantaa Lightneer Inc."_ There was this *_international school_* thingy that made these kids speak fluent English, you know. I believe they wouldn't speak that fluently if they didn't go to an international school, in which English is the medium of instruction.

I wish I was in that kind of education system I ignore a all of my lessons, revise like crazy on the internet just before a test, ace the tests and then forget everything and then I wonder why I went to school when all the information is on my computer and I can access it in a way that I understand it would be easiest if they said to us go home live how you want to live but there is a test on so and so in February then I can do exactly what I usually do but have all of that time to enjoy the little time I have on this world.

This is great. America has been working on the integration of educational games and tech for YEARS. The problem in this day and age is the push back from "parent groups" who fear that the schools are encouraging the use of technology over education and feel like it encourages too much tech (it's usually only about 30-45 min for each unit but that's beside the point) they also fear that these companies will "data mine" their kids (despite the fact that their phones have their CCs, home address, address book etc) In truth these games can be very beneficial for kids

I am trying to become a teacher in the United States. I can tell you from experience that there is way too emphasis on technology in American public schools. I volunteered at a public school where all students did (when they weren't sent outside because they were being too rowdy) required technology. They had their eyes on a screen well over 90% of the time. The vast majority of the time screens were used to babysit the students (various movies and free time spent on their laptops), screens were used when paper would have been a better option (all but one of their assignments), or both (Blooket, Kahoot...). It showed. Students were either listless or bouncing off the walls. The misdiagnosing of students with disorders like ADHD is of national concern in the United States and after that experience it is not hard to see why. Students are constantly watching one screen or another. I am not against technology. But like everything, moderation and balance are crucial. When I was at a state university trying to get my teaching degree, more than 80% of my classes were about how to use single-use technology (apps, fancy gadgets, etc). So don't worry about future teachers not using technology enough. Because if other colleges/universities are like that, few teachers will have the skills to actually teach. All they will know is which fancy toys are most popular in the education system while they're in college. Kids do not need less technology, not more. They need teachers who are innovative and knowedgable about educational methods that work. They don't need babysitters plopping them in front of a screen for eight hours per day. Sincerely, not someone in a "parent group" P.S. I am not sure what you mean by "unit". Do you mean lesson for each subject per day? Because each lesson is 30-45 minutes long on average so each student would be spending almost the entire day each school day using technology.

Finland's ranking is dropping at a breakneck pace. Education had been independent in schools. Now Politicians and senior officials make themselves important and, in their own opinion now, “invent” good new methods and projects to make the system more efficient. The teaching is now mixed up. The ranking will drop drastically.
