What is pistachio green, ginster yellow, tornado red, & chagall blue all over but isn’t a toy from your childhood collection ?? It’s my Volkswagen Polo Harlekin imported all the way from Germany!
Let’s go over some of the really super fun parts that make this build very special while talking about some of the prep work that went into it before arriving to SEMA.
I just can’t get enough of everything Harlequin / Harlekin related. Seriously. These 4 colors together just bring me so much joy, and I hope that you enjoy the car and this video too.

You don‘t know how epic it is, to see this 6N get so much recognition. I also drive a 6N (non Harlekin). I do all the work on it and everytime I drive to a car meet, people be like „Why do you spend so much money in a raggedy ass car?“. Well, people don‘t see all the hard work that went into the car. Raggedy ass they say. I have a 2010 Polo and have not changed some parts on it yet as opposed to my collegues who all bought a new car and has already needed to change stuff on theirs. I am just shy of 89.000 km but I love it eventhough it gives me a hard time to start lately. Need to change the Glowplug Relay and look into what is burning my Glowplug no 2. ☝🏾 But I still 😍 it.

A body shop near me in England made themselves a Harelquin out of a crashed Vento (AKA Jetta Mk3) shell. The shell was red, and the back end was fine, so they left the back wings that colour, then replaced the other panels (I’d heard they’d bought it with the front and part of one side smashed up) with panels in solid colours you could get Golfs and Ventos in here in the UK. From memory, I think it was red, black, white, and dark blue. It was really nicely done, and with red calipers and wipers it kinda looked like a race/rally car with the sponsors decals missing. I wish I’d taken a photo of it, but I think it was in the days before I had a camera phone (maybe around 2002/3). It seemed to be someone’s daily driver for a couple of years at least, and had a sticker in the back screen advertising the body shop. No doubt it appeared in a VW magazine in the UK at some point. It looked and sounded like it could have been a VR6. Other than the panels, it looked stock to me, with standard alloys and ride height etc. Always thought that car was pretty cool.

They struggled mightily to sell the 264 Mk3 Golf Harlequins, converting some of them to single colours to get them off the lot. So I don't think VW was even going to entertain the idea, in North America at least. They sold thousands of the Polo Harlequin, so Europe may have been a more realistic market.

And the MK3 body style Jetta is one of best body's they did IMO, I toyed with the idea of doing a Harlequin look on my MK7 1.8 Golf but decided to lift it instead which got a few feathers ruffled. but there's this guy on Instagram i follow @guap_father who did a cool ass Petina style wrap on his MK4 Jetta i thought it was cool blending a sorta classic American car look with a Euro

Definitely subscribing! I just picked up a Techno Blue 1999 1.8T 5spd Beetle and I'm super excited to start doing stuff with it! I'm a little worried 'cause it's an APH engine code and consensus online seems to be that that's the worst of the 1.8Ts but I'm sure I'll have fun with it regardless. :P

Cool. That was my dad's car, after he die it was my car up to 3 years ago. Changed it for a 2010 Polo 1.6 tdi Diesel. And I do not regret it a bit.

Yes to Marin bike video! I'm guessing the Jetta wagon was the golf estate in Europe? Also was the 'Bora' name only in Europe before being renamed to Jetta? Or did it make an appearance in the NA market?

I think it was also called Bora in Brazil. We had a couple of them in Curacao and those were either from Brazil and/or Mexico. I can not remember.

The US Golf was a Harlequin & I think the UK got Polo Harlequin badges because they speak English. Mainland Europe got Harlekin because that is the German spelling.

@jamieorr I own harlequin #2 and I need your advice. The body is beat. Should I replace fenders, hood doors and hatch for straight ones or store the original metal? Body work would run in the thousands, which I don’t have. I like to have a sponsor to help or a go fund me to save the second clown car ever made.

We own a regular Polo 6n1, it is really a fun car, even though it only has 50hp. We even have the blue hella magic colour taillights and some blue front- and side indicators :D (I found these parts online really cheap) It's reliable, cheap (the car itself and the parts) and easy to fix, that's the best thing in my opinion. When I get 18 years old, I'll probably get the car because my mum wants something newer, I'll put a 1.8t in it then :D What are the prices for a polo 6n in the USA? Are they really cheap like they are here in germany or more on the expensive side? Greetings from Germany!

Now a days you can only buy the Jetta, Golf, Tiguan, etc. It is a bummer. As I love the Polo. Will be buying a Jetta when I go do my Master as I love the VW. My Dad bought the Vento, a.k.a. Jetta in 2000 because I loved VW sooo much. Changed to a newer car and got the 2010 Polo diesel. And I LOVE it.

not on 6ns if they didnt have a spoiler with brakelight from factory there is no plug and iirc his car didnt even have a 3rd brakelight from factory (like mine) and there is no wiring for a 3rd brakelight in that case

Probably sacrifices goats to find all this stuff. I can't find jack chit nothing for my VAG vehicles, even tried Audi Heritage, they won't sell to Americans. Been looking for C Pillars for one car...for 15 years. Searched the globe for control arms, searched the planet for a gas tank neck filler seal, hunted and stalked cars for door sill trim. Literally nothing exists.
