Earthquakes are a problem for the whole world. But some countries have to deal with it more often than others. Ring of Fire is an infamous path along the Pacific Ocean that goes through countless earthquakes each year. When the countries around this area are so prone to earthquakes, the government bodies there has a responsibility to make their buildings as durable as possible. Taking the necessary precautions can be the difference between life and death in situations like the issue is not one that you can take lightly.
In this episode, we are going to take a look at how different countries and different buildings take prosecutions to decrease the effects of these earthquakes. Japan, Utah, and Taiwan are all situated around fault lines and they all deal with the threat in different ways.
Japan took inspiration from traditional architecture to build the tallest structure in the country. Utah fixed pass mistakes to retroactively make a building proof with seismic dampers. And finally, Taiwan specifically designs a building to withstand the biggest earthquakes by taking advantage of flexibility, physics, and a solid foundation.

Even though it is our own country, Japan sometimes does incomprehensible things. For example, many five-story pagodas in the Nara period (1,400yrs ago) was made earthquake-proof using central pillars, and the main hall of Rengeo-in (a.k.a Sanjusangen-do) was made seismically isolated by floating it under the floor in the Heian period (800yrs ago). It is crazy in many ways, LOL PS: In a thousand and several hundred years, there has been not a single reported case of a five-story pagoda collapsing due to an earthquake, even though there have been cases of fire and typhoons that have caused it to collapse.

if earthquakes are shallow on land and near the surface, and the surface is not strong, I do not believe that any measures will protect concrete structures from earthquakes. in shallow earthquakes, you can clearly feel the ground moving up and down. it's like someone jumping on top of a car. and in many parts of the world, the most suitable settlements are accumulated land plots .many earthquakes happen far below the ground and in the seas. .this reduces the strength of the earthquake by a huge amount .

The maximum magnitude of an earthquake that could actually occur is approx. 9, and Seismic intensity scales is 7. Japan's earthquake resistant technology assumes a seismic intensity of 7. of course even worse earthquake occurs in movie though.

The primary goal is to NOT collapse thereby killing people. They want them to stay whole even if damaged to allow people to get out and to safety (or tent cities until they rebuild)
