I think what will take this channel and the quality of your videos to the next level is not worrying about getting “too nerdy” and half apologizing to the audience. There are so many channels out there that go SO much more micro in the details: James Hoffman on coffee and how you can make your own water to affect the taste, watchmaking channels where millions will happily watch the guy scrape away a spec of dirt for ten minutes. Don’t worry about it, dive in and share your passion freely

Nothing justifies this price. For 4k you could buy a 40 yo beat down fun to drive sportscar. Only a fool would pay 2k for a pair of LEATHER shoe.
@D_Jilla
@D_Jilla Жыл бұрын
@@roberth4395 people spend 10-50k on buying a luxury watch, wedding rings, jewelry. Boots can be used everyday and good leather shoes can last forever if you take care of them properly. A good pair of shoes or accessories makes you feel great and enhances your social life. I think that is worth the price compared to a $4000 rust bucket that only depreciates, and you will have to spend much more to keep her running + gas. Something like that you can take only point A to point B, while quality leather shoes you will always have. Now with that said I can't knock you valuing the shitty sportscar more, especially if you fix up and work on cars. I think a purchase is never foolish if it enhances your mood and life. And, if you calculate cost per wear/ use it's pretty cheap if the item is used often.
@roberth4395

@@D_Jilla You broght up good points, but I still stick to my views. I love top quality leather shoes, but this thing is a waste of money. If you want the best leather shoes for the lovest price then go to central/eastern europe. You can get greater quality for like 1/10 of the price (bespoke). I am not saying investing in quality leather shoes is a bad choice, what I am saying is that investing in american leather products is one of the worst choices you can make. If you don't want to travel to europe just for a shoe then do this during your holiday.

26:06 Keep making whatever you like man! I know you're running a business and you get some income from these videos, but in the long run, as a 'customer' what always keeps me coming back is people keeping it real and staying true to themselves without shilling out. Over the years I've unsubscribed and lost interest in loads of good channels and magazines and whatnot because everything they made turned into over-the-top ridiculous clickbait. Now arguably, the title of this video is pretty clickbaity too, but the content is great. I'd say if you want to hold on to your audience in the long run, authenticity is key. Love these more rambly, long, and random videos. Your genuine enthusiasm and interest is palpable and comes across well. If you'd turn everything into this dull, 100% automated, algorithm-pleasing BS you would totally lose the spark of the channel, as has happened to many, many others. This channel is the main reason I've gotten really interested in the quality of my own footwear. It's taught me what to look for, and what kinds of things to avoid. So many of my shoes used to break within months, now everything I wear pretty much lasts me years and years. (With the exception of the odd pair of sneakers, perhaps.) Just keep doin' what you're doin'.

All in all good sentiment. It's why I unsubscribed from Carl Murawski's channel. Got tired of his bullshit click bait videos where his priorities were shilling names and products instead of just talking to viewers and informing them by covering cool shit. Carl plays up folksy but the dude is corporate. Weston though, been subscribed for years now and the guy has remained authentic the entire time. Nothing but respect for Weston. Glad to see his channels and his business doing well. He's earned it.

I visited Vancouver Island a bunch of years ago and a friend there kept talking about his job at this boot factory. When I got home I finally looked them up and was kinda shocked by the prices, but it was honestly the first boot company I'd ever heard of that wasn't Timberland or Doc Marten so just figured that's how things went. Those are some good looking boots. From my experience with engineer boots they should fit you basically like a western boot when adjusted but without any heel slippage when tighten. If they are that loose on you currently I doubt they will be much better once broken in. You might have to look into getting a custom pair made for you with your full ankle & calf measurements similar to how nick's does tall lineman boots.
@alexd.3048
@alexd.3048 Жыл бұрын
I was shocked to hear these boots weren't fitted to him. Seriously, for 2 grand, such a big name and the quality, why wouldn't you measure your customer's foot, ankle and even calfs? That's borderline fraud. I have the Rose Anvil Nick's Boots from 2021 and they were fitting juuust right and I always have to wear thick socks, else they are too big. Before buying, I spent an hour measuring my foot's length and width and converting it to american sizes and checked dozens of websites to be sure it fits. Yet it only fits because of a workaround. That's not acceptable for 700$, and inadmissible for 2000$.

I loved hearing your comments about the try on. I feel like you echoed a lot of my issues I’ve had with my White’s in the ankle area, even with boots that were sized properly to my foot length (and in narrow width). I punched a couple new holes in my ankle strap and wore them for a while and the heel slip has definitely gone down, but it’s still there. But hopefully with more wear the soles will curl up and reduce the heel slip.

cordovan is more durable then traditional cow leather, that's the reason its the highest end leather, as well as how little of it is available. it's tighter grain structure makes it more resistant to tearing and because of that lasts longer then traditional leather on a shoe.

@Orion i think the subtlety is like in steel, you have soft steel and hard steel, the former being ductile and can be bend at will, great for anvils and tools but absolutely unusable for construction projects, the other being super brittle but takes a beating before snapping suddenly, great for construction but absolutely horrendous for tools. I’m not a construction worker though so of course it’s very boiled down and wrong on many levels but I think it’s a fair comparison !
@teekue
@teekue 9 ай бұрын
@@Adieritactually it's exactly the opposite. Cow leather is way stronger at the same thickness. Also unlined makes no sense in cordovan as it does not take moisture very well so you want it to be lined.

Good on you, brother. Shell engineers are the grail of all grails. I've got a pair of John Lofgren engineers in natural CXL and they definitely felt very roomy with a lot of heel slip when I first got them, so I cinched them down to the tightest hole on the strap and they still felt kind of loose. After breaking them in and wearing them for a couple of years and upgrading to some nice thick boot socks they fit great on the second-to-last hole. Engineers definitely fit different from lace-up boots but once you have it dialed in nothing beats having an ultra-comfortable boot that takes all of about 10 seconds to put on and take off. Plus I feel like a badass pirate cowboy even when my jeans cover everything from the buckle up.

Bro, great job 🙌🏽💯🍻 Was super stoked to see your new channel. I think having a second channel where you can be more chill and need out hard without the pressures of the algorithm is fabulous (though I do applaud and congratulate you for the 600k subscribers on the first channel- that’s a massive accomplishment and blessing, and I’m super super happy for man! 🍻). I thoroughly enjoyed this from beginning to end! I learned something when you were talking about the dye color on the backsides of the shell. And yeah, 2005 last isn’t great for skinny feet like yours and mine 😅 Glad you weren’t afraid to punch holes in the straps. That’s the way to go. I’ve done that to my engineers, and it makes a huge difference. Could probably add one more hole on yours honestly….Would have been nice to see more closeups of the stitchdown stitch rows (and the beautiful shell itself I suppose). The fact that Viberg does these as stitchdown is a huge deal. Most makers (including me, if I were a maker) would welt shell, cuz it’s so valuable; wouldn’t wanna risk any issues in manufacturing. Most makers don’t have the guts to do that, and I don’t blame them (which is why these cost $2000). One bad slip while doing the Stitchdown, and a an entire shell vamp is ruined (like you mentioned about the lasting process). Viberg has some dumb quirks sometimes, but I keep coming back cuz Brett has the balls to try cool stuff like this😂 He’s a true restless creative with some backbone, and my appreciation and admiration for that runs deep…..Lastly, massive bonus for putting your feet on the table 😂😂😂 Freaking hilarious and awesome, dude 😄🤘🏽Enjoy these gorgeous boots!! Do an update sometime on the aging and ultimate sizing conclusion 🙏🏽🍻

I think they look really good with the jeans pulled down over the boot shaft! They also look good with the bottom of the jeans slightly rolled up and pulled over the boot shaft. Makes a nice silhouette. That’s my two cents.

I have 2 pair of Viberg shell service boots (Color 8 - the correct color, and Maduro) They're great. Can wear em dressy or with jeans. A bit hard to break in and they do creak & squeak a bit, but I like 'em.

Beautiful boots. They will last a lifetime with you. When I wore my RM William boots all day on hard concrete and asphalt, I put heavy duty insoles in and it made all the difference to foot comfort.

I'm glad that a person who can fully appreciate the cost of such boots was able to get some at an, apparently, reasonable price.

Had a pair of White’s X Stitchdown collab boots in natural horsehide that I waited 7 months for to end up being too small. It’s sad times lol

I was a tanker in the Army and I had one pair of tanker boots to wear in the field. They had a strap that wrapped around the uppers to a buckle at the top. I liked to wear them then, when I was mostly on my tank. They were made with a purpose, and they were a pride thing. Most of us wore them. I didn't wear them when I wasn't on the tank most of the day, they killed my feet with regular walking during the day if I had to walk a lot. I am 100% disabled veteran. I have had 17 operations, 9 on my right legs, and I wear mainly boots or very comfortable shoes. I am very picky about what goes on my feet. I usually go to a Red Wing store where they can help me find shoes, and go to many places with professionals for boots. I am anal about boot care. I grew up on a farm and we learned about that since we were young.

Beautiful boots. Ed Viberg actually learned how to make boots in the small town of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan-not far from where I live. It’s a piece of history very few people know around here. He had a reputation for making durable boots and shoes for loggers and farmers in the area. Northern Saskatchewan is pretty brutal for footwear, you have to make boots that can handle snow, mud, thick underbrush, muskeg, and wet grass. So the fact that Viberg had a great reputation really speaks to the quality of his work.

*Also after learning the process & quality of the horse back leather, I think 2k$ is a steal tbh, I've seen alligator boots by big name boot companies go for about 5k$ & even up to 10k$ considering the complexity... it's an absolute great buy* 👍

Love the idea of an in depth cordovan video!! I’ve been trying to do some research on my own, but it really stops at «there’s a membrane and it takes a long time to make.» Would be amazing to get a single video explaining in detail what it is. Why do horses have this membrane? What makes it so strong? What significance does the membrane have in regards to use and care?

I care about that extra stuff they put into the packaging I wish you would include it in all your videos so I wouldn’t feel the need to buy it myself 😭. Great video. Really looking forward to the white’s review because the handwelt construction really interests me. Can’t wait to see it

The Viberg unboxing experience is amazing. I feel like you kind of missed out on it because everything fell out. It is honestly akin to opening a new MacBook - only better because of the smell… Those boots are gorgeous. Congrats. Glad you decided to treat yourself, and enjoyed getting to watch you nerd out over them. Like others have said, stop apologizing! We’re here because we enjoy it. Great content as always.
