@danielforshaw1160 Liverpool fans should actually watch Nunez with Uruguay to see his true potential. He’s scored 10 goals in his last 7 matches for them, including 5 goals in 3 matches over the past two weeks. And he’s also the leading goal scorer in South American World Cup qualifying. How he plays under Bielsa Ball tactics is Nunez at his very best.

@@danielforshaw1160 I hear you. But watching him play with Uruguay is very eye opening. Uruguay under Bielsa press like possessed maniacs and it fits Nunez perfectly. He’s actually playing with true out and out wingers who look to get to the end line and provide service as well. Instead of shoot first, past second wingers like Salah, Diaz, and Gapko.

Echo some other comments on here. This doesn’t feel like a balanced argument at all. Obviously we all want to get behind him because that’s what we do as Liverpool fans and it’s what makes our club so great but there needs to be some discourse around the time we have given him to correct his game etc. Nunez obviously is an emotional lad and that’s great (when he jumped over the boards in the final etc) but we bought him for a huge fee to be our main man and deliver. It troubles me that he hasn’t learnt the language yet and continues to not learn from his mistakes (using social media, his offsides, finishing etc.) There’s obviously raw talent in there but his ability to adjust and learn is a concern. It’s no surprise to me that he’s banging them for Uruguay- they all speak his language, plays with confidence and Bielsa seems to understand how to get the best out of him. Edwards and co wouldn’t have approved the signing with that fee. Drives me insane when the crowd chant his name when he does the slightest thing right. His goal return has mainly come against ‘lesser teams’ and we would’ve probably ended up with more silverware if we had a ruthless finisher. Bit of balance needed on here lads.

Make that 11 in 8! For some reason, something wasn't right between him and Jurgen. No point in speculating what it was, but there was very obviously an issue. Marcelo Beilsa seems to be able to get the absolute best out of him, and he's even eluded to it himself. I reckon Slot may do the same. Can see Darwin getting 30+ this season, and also Gakpo improving as well from the left. I was one of the people that really had enough of him last season, when you take into account the amount of times he's caught offside, the whole disrespect for Klopp, the taking his Liverpool pics foen etc. BUT... I do believe he could redeem himself this season.

There needs to be more conversation around the fact Nunez was never a target man #9, ever, and Klopp decided he was going to be because he was the tallest forward (give me a better reason). Klopp in all his glory was stubborn as a mule and loved taking players out of their preferred position to make them do something else. Would love Darwin to get a run of games off the left like the rest of his career before we decide anything. It's also just not talked about enough that we were actually shite last season, yes plagued with injuries as well but honestly we squeaked through so many matches, no one could get proper rhythm and no one helped anyone else look better.

But that means that we now have bought 3 players for the same position? Although I agree with you, I feel that Gakpo gives us the best quality on the left, he is very direct and it is nearly impossible to get the ball of him without making a foul, Diaz I feel is just too much action but with very little end product, also he is very unpredictable, making it not very easy for his teammates to play a fluid game.

@___AD You’re conveniently not mentioning Nunez has 10 goals in his last 7 matches for Uruguay and is the leading goal scorer in South American World Cup qualifying. And if you want to talk about misses, Messi literally missed two breakaways in the opening match of the Copa and Mbappe missed a breakaway in France’s opening match of the Euro’s. Likewise, hardly any number 9’s have scored at the Euro’s. You can bemoan Nunez missing all you want but his chance creation is unlike virtually any other striker right now. And his directness is something very much missing in the modern game. Nunez is a beast and a very unique player.

@@Photosoflife he is also already top of the Copa America for Big Chances missed which is what Liverpool fans are frustrated by and what the video is about - has he turned a corner? Just like how Suarez was terrible his first season than became one of the best strikers Liverpool have ever had. No Liverpool fan thinks he's a bad player, that's why they still sing his name. It's just when you're playing the top teams in the premiership or Champions league you don't get many chances and he's not clinical enough infront of goal. He missed 27 big chances last year, second only to Ealaand and he never scored against a big team with maybe argued the exception of those amazing 2 goals at Newcastle. His goals were against Sheffield, Burnley, Bournemouth, Forest, Brentford and West ham. Not the best body count for Liverpools Number 9.

@@___AD Ronaldo, Lukaku, Kane, Lewandowski, Morata, Mitrovic, Mbappe, and Hojlund have a combined 2 goals from open play in 22 matches at the Euro’s. One of the funniest things I find about people who focus on Nunez missing is they ignore how low striker conversion rates actually are. Top strikers only have a conversion rate of around 20% to begin with. Messi literally missed two breakaways with Argentina several days ago, Mbappe missed a breakaway with France several days ago, Haaland was missing sitters all year. This whole idea about strikers being clinical is complete nonsense. Too many KZfaq highlight reel fans now who constantly look to mock players like Nunez for missing. Actually look at typical match stats. Typically only 20-30% of shots are even on target to begin with. I hear what you’re saying about Nunez but he creates chances like hardly any other striker in the game these days. Watch Nunez play and then watch virtually every other striker. It quickly becomes apparent that he really is a very special player.

I love TAW, but I think they get too close to the players, they loose perspective, if Nunez just was 50% more effective we would have a great chance to be champions, the fellow just missed too many 100% chances and also his off-side awareness is just non existent in a Liverpool skirt making many good situations with good opportunity to score fall by the way side. I believe that there could be a problem with him and Klopp, also believe that he has problem keeping his head cool, too emotional maybe. I therefore understand if he gets sold, but there is a feeling that we maybe should give him one more chance, who knows, maybe he will surprise us.

Uraguay aren't better than Liverpool but they're all, Bielsa included, speaking the same language & pulling in the same direction. If you actually watch Nunez with Uruguay you’ll understand. Nunez looks like a monster and completely different player under Bielsa with Uruguay. Their manic press fits Nunez perfectly. His 10 goals in his last 7 matches for Uruguay isn’t an accident. The style fits him perfectly under Bielsa.

@@Photosoflifemy friend, it’s Uruguay, not Liverpool. People forget how much pressure it is playing for us. Especially with the number 9. If klopp and pep can’t improve his finishing then no one can. Granted his attributes are potentially elite but mentally he doesn’t have it.

@@Lfcr786 Nunez has 110 goals and 37 assists in 213 professional matches for club and country. He definitely has it. People like you live in this world where Haaland, Ronaldo, and Messi type numbers are the expectation. When the reality is those three, as well as someone like Lewandowski, are extreme outliers. Nunez is top quality.

With any luck, a return to Portugal or another league he can rebuild his career in. There can be no more defence for this guy, he's had two seasons and is not improving. Allowing him to leave is best for him and his career and best for us and our ambitions.

Agreed. This nonsense that his all round game is better is ludicrous. If he played for a rival club we’d be given him pelters. Ill support the lad at the match but an upgrade is required for us to get over the line

Still frustrating to watch and think he will always miss chances, but it is a fact that he improved both his goal and assist output this season

Can't believe people are happy with 10 Prem goals a season for a LFC number 9, 20 league goals should be a given with the chances we create but hey you all obviously know best, where did he finish in the goal scoring charts last season?
