The two lads have their head in the sand.. If England stumble out of their group, it will paper over the cracks again.. Their players say all the right things but what we see on playing field is very different story.. They don't play like a team.. George Ford's two media moments "accidentally" dropping the "Owen will get away with" and "we aren't going well in training" are two snake comments put out there deliberately.. But here lads go ahead, focus on the positives, still waiting on you to come up with an actual positive..

@@hortents Ford's comment about training highlights the only way that England can progress from here, which is to train well every time between now and the Argentina game and to hope that the improvement sticks under the pressure of a match. It’s been over a lot longer period than that. If it hadn’t been for Eddie Jones and him being the antithesis of everything the RFU standard for, this would have been more apparent a lot sooner. The self-constricting and bottle-necking of player development by the RFU has killed the game in this country. Giving up equity to short term investments from CVC with no long term plan. The RFU have painted themselves into a corner with no obvious means of escape. There is a very real possibility that English rugby could nose dive off a cliff.

He is the only one making sense. The others waffle on really. I have been of the opinion that Eddie has been on balance, a destructive influence for england. Rugby has been over complicating by him and his model wasnt sustainable. His big mouth also was detrimental to England, saying that he is going to make them the best team ever just after the 2019 WC loss. Dont think anyone believed him. Greater than McCaw's AB's or even the Boks? Dalaglio is right on so many levels. England today is a galaxy away from the 2003 squad.

good to see Dallaglio call out Haskell's bs about players not owning their bad performance. Tindall went quiet after calling out by Dallaglio. The problem with the GB&R is that both Haskell and Tindall want to still be mates with the players. Haskell's blind allegiance to EJ still is unbelievable. Sure people on social media are not objective but stick to the issue at hand - England players seem to not be giving their all and get petulant like Genge has when fans express their opinions. @hdg0pc70 agree, the issue is that these players are paid well to perform at this level. Every team has bad days etc but this England team has not shown any improvement. If the issue is with the coaches - Borthwick etc seem out of their depth then at least the players can demonstrate some passion. Standing around laughing and joking having just been beaten by Fiji is not a good look. Even more so with their current performances. They are paid extremely well to represent England and it seems some of the players don't really appreciate that.

For me, this is the product of 3-4 years of favouritism in selection and refusing to bring through younger, faster, more dynamic players. Consequently, we have a shortage of balance, athleticism and overall quality - simple as that! That said, really hoping the lads can restore some pride in the shirt and come away with concrete positives for whatever lies ahead following the World Cup. 🌹

The England team look like they are playing a league game, and all trying to recall the rules, and the coach has come up with a radical new game plan 10 mins before the kickoff. What a mess. The only tweak needed to this current English team is to remove ALL old players and promote/blood new players. And, bring in a new coach who has vision for a fast and expansive game. great discussion and brilliant observation about the importance of the media. As a Bok fan, I've noticed the importance of having access and using the media as that 16th player in the squad. It gives access and insight for the fans into the team but more so, controlled access of the public into the team. England has no positive sportsman media presence other than the bad rep of minor mistakes on the field. It's easier to fix tactical mistakes than rebuild a reputational brand. Get the media right, get the fans and watch the team play for the country. Their performance is a reflection of their feelings towards the fan base in England because the narrative is not good.

I'd just like to offer a bit of free advice, as a Scot. What England lack, in today's game, and what they don't know how to deal with, is a full-on, 'throw everything at them we have' cavalry charge mentality. Yes, you have the money, the talent, the strength in depth, the organisation to beat anyone in the world on your day. But you don't do another gear and you don't know how to deal with someone who has that. Look at the 2019 38-38 draw with Scotland and you'll see exactly what I mean. For about an hour, Scotland did what that team was capable of doing, played their AA+ game, and England looked baffled, lost, like Brazil in that game against Germany. Yes, you came back to draw, but not before throwing away a huge lead. That's what England needs to find... ...but when you find it, like Marcus Smith, you seem scared to use it.

Flying Fijians, please; don't make the mistake of thinking that we, as Fijians; have arrived just because the British Lions got beaten at Twickenham. Pride goes before a fall. Let's remain humble in victory, gracious in defeat and play our rugby with clean hands in the right frame of mind. The English side has been a professional side much longer than we. Collectively, they have been playing at the professional level in more games than we have. If we have arrived (which we haven't) we will need to prove it where it matters: at the World Cup by winning all our matches including the big prize. To keep things in their proper perspective, it's more prudent to assess that the British Lions had a rare lapse of concentration on the day at Twickenham. Wales supporter here just wanted to say Fiji won that game more than England lost it. You dominated the scrum your kicking was incredible and you handled going down by 8 early and then took the lead with 14 men. England were actually more composed this game than their last few games significantly especially against Wales. It's clear that the experience of playing together at club level has improved things massively. Fiji with a good scrum and set piece, great kicking and a ten whith game management skills is absolutely terrifying and I love it. See you in a week hopefully the game will as good as 2007 against us but I'm hoping it go our way this time. It's Australia's turn to knocked out by Fiji in the pools stages. How much wasted on ridding EJ and bringing in the - unproven at test level - Bortwick and Sinfield? About £1.5m or so? They don’t get along, they are pulling in separate directions. Both need to go.

I love this show, because they have had some of the best sports interviews, I have even seen. The two which stick in my mind were, Dan Carter, and Ritchie McCaw. Haskell, and Tindall could both at times try to recall they work in the media , not for England Rugby. I thought that Lawrence was the most objective in that episode. If a team executes a plan well, but it doesn't result in a win, that is the Coaches fault. Top tier teams normally expect to be able to execute 2 things, moves from the training field, and their own line outs. It is also expected that players know Thier roles, and what is expected of them.

It is said that the way a team plays mirrors the character of the coach. The coach was a forward where it was all about head down, ball up the jumper then kick chase. It's dire to watch & players have roles on the field & are playing in fear of making mistakes. No chance of winning the world Cup.

Newsflash, the game has moved on. D is Massive, winning the breakdown is Ultimate, Then you can think about attacking, oh and don't give the ball away, tackle with your arms wrapped and below chest height - nowhere near the head, and as the boys said, simplify and clarify, own it and deliver. BTW, knocking FIJI, silly, they play in the super league as the Fijian Dura, they are right up to speed and have the skills and are up for 80 mins. Like I say, time to get where everyone else has moved to....Good luck against Argentina, they too are miles ahead, focused and all on the same page.

Before the final stages of the Women's Rugby World Cup, New Zealand knew they needed help, the coach reached out to members of the All Blacks team which won the 2011, and 2015, World Cups. These former players made time to help fellow Kiwi's. If you want to know how to win a World Cup, ask players who have done it, back to back.

NZ v FRA for the first game is tactical genius. They have their hardest game first and hope to cruise through the rest. They’ll be able to rotate their squads more given they’ll have easier games. If they do get any injuries in the first or so games.. they’ll be able to call in a player and intergrate them in easier games.

Interesting with Tins saying on quick front foot ball, structure goes out and joue goes up - exactly what Quins players have gone on record saying Nick Evans brought to attack coaching but instead England bring in Wigglesworth who has sat on the back of big lads at Saracens and Tigers that can put breakdown pressure on if you don’t win a competitive kick back.

As an Englishman who is old enough to have watched them all, this is the first world Cup that i am not excited by. Borthwick should never have been put into this position so close to the RWC. Look at France's trajectory since the last RWC and compare it to England. Our renewal should have started 4 years ago. If Borthwick survives after this one maybe we can look forward to a 4 year renewal plan encouraging the promotion of talented youth at the expense of results in the early year or two aka France.

Said it before. Say it again. The board involved in employing Eddie Jones has to take responsibility. As a coach, Eddie has no concept of team development over the long term. He etch-a-sketches a new team to suit the team he is playing, to the detriment of any campaign. This is why you have a great collection of players with no coherence or plan.

England are now a tier 2 nation. They will be fighting for 2nd place in their pool against Japan and Samoa yet they can still reach a semi final. The players have gotten worse over years not overnight, even at club level, just look at their performances in Europe compared to 4+ years ago
@iambeowulf9325
@iambeowulf9325 10 ай бұрын
The players haven’t necessarily gotten worse, they’ve just got older. The lack of progress in developing new players is down to the RFU constricting the professional game and ring fencing the Premiership. And now they wonder why there is no new talent coming through. Using the European club competition is not a good comparison. You’re comparing French clubs littered with internationals because of their significantly higher salary cap and the Irish teams that are centrally contracted to the IRFU who are picking up the bulk of the top player’s wages. The Premiership clubs are completely hamstrung and it was only really down to Saracens breaking the salary cap where they could compete in Europe consistently.

South Africa was exactly at this point in 2017. We had lost to Italy, Wales, Argentina, Australia & heavy losses to NZ. The worse was that 57-0 loss vs NZ - but 14 of that 23 won a world cup 2 years later At the time...talented group of players but the coaching staff was complicating the attacking shape and defense. When Rassie and Nienaber came in they simplified things and went back to our DNA. Yes, it took the players a while to adapt to the new defensive structure but there was progress in 2018. England has a good squad but need to simplify things, what is the English rugby DNA? Go back to that.

I think part of the frustration of England supporters is because that's what we expected from Borthwick. He turned Leicester round very quickly by going back to basics. Dan Cole had his best domestic season for years and got recalled to England. When asked about it, he said Steve just told him "your priorities are X, Y, Z" - real back to basics stuff.

@@robw7676 Despite this England could very easily get themselves into a QF with Aus/Fij/Wales and possibly then a semi...let's be honest they're not losing to both Arg and Japan in the pool stage. Still time for Borthwick to do his thing. Despite some injuries, he has a good squad by the looks of it?
@robw7676
@robw7676 10 ай бұрын
@MyCousin82 They could easily win or lose both. A lot of the gap at the high end of sport is psychological. Japan's victory over the Boks in the 2015 tournament remains the 2nd greatest RWC game from my perspective - Japan were superb, but the Boks were shell-shocked- like "we are losing to Japan, how is this happening?" rather than a team thinking "we AREN'T going to lose to Japan - calm down, discipline, focus!" The greatest game in RWC history IMO was the very unfancied France in '99 coming from way down to knock out the supposedly almost-dead-cert favourite All Blacks. The French players in that game say there was a different atmosphere in the changing room at half time - they truly believed the game was theirs for the taking despite being 14 points adrift... so they went out, and ran riot. England could have a mental about-turn and come out with an attitude of confidence and playing what is infront of them... and demolish Argentina & Japan and go on to win a QF... or, more likely, both of those sides will believe England are theirs for the taking, and a dull, over-coached, system obsessed England will believe it too.

@@robw7676 If Eng do lose to Arg, entirely possible, hopefully that shocks them into action against Japan the following week. Like the 2015 Boks losing to Japan but then rebounding to get the bronze medal. Personally not convinced this is the same Japanese team of 2019, now ranked 14th and coming off a couple losses....Italy ran them off their feet last week... think 2019 home crowds also helped a lot.

It's tournament rugby. Rankings, coming in as favourites or being hosts will add little value for this WC. The winning team will best adapt to pressure and the referee's pedantic calls (and 3rd ref). For the first time in a long time, a handful of teams could accomplish this.

I agree with a lot of what all 3 said about England. Players need to own their performance, the physicality is lacking and they do need to loosen up the game plan. I’d argue the selection in the forwards and 9 is hampering us. The pack is basically a lot of players that hit their peak in 2019 or even earlier and same story with the 9’s (Mitchell being the exception). It’s obvious when we play the top teams like Ireland and France that physically the pack can’t execute borthwick’s game plan and we run the game too slow. Got to find a fix soon but it’s still a squad full of good players that can get to a semi due to the draw.
