Oh there hilarious North Korean lies: Kim jong sil is a god who can control the weather. Kim Jong Il invented the hamburger in the year 2000.( he called it double bread with meat). There are no birds in North America, they are all extinct due to starving Americans hunting them to extinction. Due to America's impoverished state they are kept alive by the kind mercy of Kim Jong Un who feeds his mortal enemies with North Korean food that he ships us.( cuz hes such a nice guy). Oh and everyone in America lives in a shanty town.

I'm watching this over 4 years after it was posted and I find the discussion surrounding America (I'm Canadian) absolutely fascinating. Great interviewing skills! I was captured by all interviewee's comments/stories but I was especially astounded at how insightful the gentleman in the jean jacket was.

In many countries in the west there is great freedom to become depressed and work with their psychiatrist, for it is a freedom and a luxury really, just mope around daily, the world isn't working how they desire it too, yet in poor third world country the lower echelons of the population cannot afford to be depressed, they would starve as there exists little or no safety net, they have to depend upon their efforts, through family and necessity they function without end,. thus freedom is a highly subjective subject. there is religious freedom, and religious intolerance too, like the kind of thing we see in Tibet this last half century, the chinese have taken away their freedom and the buddhist monks and tibetan people have peacefully demonstrated since 1959's they had freedom taken from them

It is true that North Korea was originally more properous than South Korea, but South Korea wasn't just a place full of fishing villages and farms. Seoul has traditionally been the capital of Korea, not Pyongyang. It has been capital of Gogyuro (고구려), which was one of the three kingdoms of Korea about 1300 years ago, but never a capital after Korea was unified in AD 668. Also, Busan, a city in the Southeastern coast of South Korea, became quite prosperous during the period of Japanese occupation due to its geological closeness with Japan. South Korea wasn't a barren land full of nothing.

The same thing happens in Venezuela, where we would really appreciate a war to free ourselves from these communist bastards in the government. Our situation is very similar to NK, as the government is always brainwashing the poorest people into thinking that USA is this awful enemy that should be destroyed and that is the one responsible for the 'economic war' that has killed too many people from starvation and lack of medicines. Never ever trust a communist, they will destroy everything you love.

Xpenguin17revived you do realize that their internet is nothing like ours. There is no google there is no bing. Every nation basically has some similarities and a lot of differences in terms of internet. NK can control what is seen, read, looked at. They obviously cannot see outside of their country.

I wish the northern and southern halves of Korea could reunite; my heart truly goes out to the people of North Korea. They're a lovely people plagued by a horrible, totalitarian government, and they deserve so much better.

I literally sit here in my comfortable living room, weeping because of what this precious young man had to witness when he was just a small child. No human being should subject another one to such atrocities, let alone a child. I am beyond heart broken.

I sometimes imagine bombers flying over North Korea dropping care packages instead of bombs shortly after their armies surrender and an internal coup has ousted Kim Jong Un or he finally realizes what he is doing isn't working and opens borders and ushers in a new era of a democratic North Korea. I would be fine with him creating a system similar to what the Royal Family does, as long as he ends what is going on.

The people are either too poor/weak to do something or they are too involved in either the government or the cruelties against other humans. I don't think anything will happen besides a continued hidden influence from the outside world creeping into North Korea through black markets. All we can hope is that genuinely good educated people will start getting into the government through their family influence and that they know at least partly how the real world is.

Freedom starts with a fight, sticks and stones may break your bones, but bullets make you dead. You can only enslave those who cannot or will not defend themselves. Say what you want about America, but the chances of being dragged out of your house and re-educated by the gov't is pretty slim.

I agree but would like to add another point of view. Is it not amazing that we Americans (and others) are so used to freedom that we don't even have a need to realise it? It's so successful that it just feels normal to the point of not being able to think anything diffrent. I’m simply pointing out in a country of some 350 million people , overall it’s people coexist peacefully with the most diverse population. Watching this reminds me of all the wonderful people I met when visiting South Korea in the seventies. Hard working, open, friendly and welcoming. I have no reason not to believe their countrymen and women on the opposite side of the border are any different, except for the thorough and inhumane indoctrination by the despotic regime, as witnessed by these two brave and beautiful ('former') North Korean boys! *Asian Boss* - thanks for sharing, 💓 from 🇳🇴

@Vandole well stated. I saw the same in Afghanistan, in Helmand Province. The 8 year old and 9 year old boys were the young ones - 10 and above were already walking, talking, and conversing as men. I was lucky enough to have an 9 month Pashto course prior to going and was able to talk reasonably well with these little mini men, and it was a thing to shatter ones naivete to just hear the questions they asked and how they thought through things. There were no 10 year old "children" there any longer, though perhaps long ago there were. I wonder what life in the northern portion of Korea was like prior to the Communists. It would be interesting to know.

Most of the time Americans don’t think about North Korea at all. It’s a small, isolated and not a country that deals on the world stage so we usually forget about it. Occasionally we hear about it and make fun of Kim Jong Un and generally feel sorry for the country’s citizens but that’s about as far as it goes.

Yeah.. I felt that. People often fail to understand the actions of others in situations, which they themselves have never faced. That is okay. But instead of mocking, doubting or criticizing others (whose situation we haven't experienced and hence don't understand) we should atleast try to understand their situation and the reasons behind their actions.

I wonder if any interrogated North Korean ever answered their interrogator with; Yippee Ki Yay Motherf... And if it can be confirmed that a North Korean ever did reply with that during an interrogation and that person is still alive. Derxert That’s on the surface. They’re still dumping tons of chemical waste into their water systems. They’re still using slave labor for coal. They do not have trash pickup in the same way many countries do. It’s often dumped wherever or burned. The city I lived in had a street the foreigners called “Trash Street” because people just dropped their trash on the ground. It was right next to a large university, but still nasty. It was hand swept every night, but the residue was always on the street. Don’t get me wrong, the solar and wing farms are great, but there is a lot more to do.

As a Korean,it just made me cry for their sufferings. At least one member of any family in South Korea might have been separated during the war and living in NK although they must be very old now. Same family, but different fate. If I was in that situation, imagining my beloved sister there dying of hunger seriously ache my heart while I enjoy all the flourishment in SK. This is the saddest part of our history that must not be forgotten ever.

This is really interesting-- I don't speak Korean, but from the subtitles, his questions elicit thoughtful answers and he allows his subjects to answer. All of the young men he interviews are thoughtful and have a slightly different take on America and its relationship with North Korea.

You can really see how they view things differently now that they have been to South Korea and the USA. You can see it on their faces that they are just happier and more aware.

The man in the striped shirt seems very bright. I really appreciated his insight. I feel like the gentleman with the round glasses may still be having some difficulties adjusting and isn't able to properly interpret America's issues nor its people. I imagine that'll change with time but regardless, I wish them all the best. Your videos are well made and help give a voice to people often ignored, thanks.

The media portrays American culture as being one great big racist gang battle, so why wouldn't this young man think that way? Many people who live here think the same--they'll do 80 in a 60 zone at rush hour on the interstate, weaving in and out of traffic, but they're afraid of guns...people with a different cultural heritage or minor differences in appearance...people who vote differently but still mean well. Statistically, we ought to be afraid of junk food, inactivity, deficit spending and traffic!
