Sweet Guts. I really admire how ambitious you are. YOu take on these big pieces and don't get lost. Just pace, and go straight to the finish. It seems like such a powerful sense of strategy and direction you have developped I'm so jelly XD

I'm a recent sub. Love the focus you have on illustrators that have filled me with inspiration over the years (Frazetta, Booth, Leyendecker, Mobius, et al) . I especially love how you study them so meticulously and thoroughly. The Fan Art question is a big one so thanks for covering that too. Wonderful channel!

thank you for this video. I searched for fan art copyright advice, because i just got an etsy listing removed due to copyright claim for Sailor moon. I assumed it was alright to sell since I see fanart or different products of her everywhere by practically every artist alley artist. So now that i got it removed i even looked up if it was legal, and it wasn't ^^" Shame I didn't see this video sooner...But at least I hope Toei wouldn't sue me or demand money for two shirts sold... It was getting traction lately and i even thought of printing more of it but now i sure won't.

Hi Chloe. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). Again... great video! And very educational for artists (legal views, etc.). I don't do Fan Art but I like watching other artists with their own vision from original artwork (could be a Comic super hero or a Picaso/Dalí, for example), because Masters are there to teach us as well as to inspire us (artists) to do better. I also understand the copyright laws, which always protect everyone's rights for our original work and that's how it should be!. And great artwork! I like your inking style very much. It gives a feel of Masters maybe considered a bit more traditional and not so "comic" artwork oriented, but extremely well executed in your own personal style. Thank you for sharing, from a fellow artist and a subscriber to your channel! Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

Hi Jim from Madrid, I bet it's warmer where you are than from where I'm typing with my gloves on. haha. Thank you for watching and I'm glad that you enjoy the style. I aim to feature different genres of pen masters, because as you mention there is a lot to learn from each of them. Last night I was looking at some images from Charles Dana Gibson and wondering how he makes a few scribbles say so much. I'll need to make a video about the "economy of lines", so fascinating!

@@longstrideillustration Thank you Chloe for taking the time to reply to my comment. As Steve from the Mind of Watercolor says (I'm also a subscriber to his channel and he is a wonderful guy - always answers any of my questions - Thank you too, Steve!) your channel, Chloe, is really good and you helped me to improve in my line work a lot! And yes, a video on how to say more with less lines would really be appreciated! Cheers from Madrid!

This is amazing! Miura would be so proud! Your absolute line control is really outstanding. I wish I could draw lines like that, but my hands shake a lot 😢especially on digital, since the tablet + nib are so slick. It was unbelievable to see you drawing the line on the Dragonslayer without using a ruler. I felt personally attacked 😂

The paper has a bit of texture and grabs the nib for a bit of control (if that helps), it's a bristol vellum

My partner and I sculpted a character from Berserk that is very beloved in the community and we really want to offer limited sculptures of him on etsy. Would doing something like this get us in trouble?
@longstrideillustration
@longstrideillustration Ай бұрын
Hi there. My best guess is that it would be a gamble to post it on Etsy, but the worst they can do is shut you down (unless they give out fines as well). I doubt the copyright owner would take action on a derivative work. It might be worthwhile to look closer at the fine print though, so you have a full understanding of the risks you are taking. Another alternative to Etsy would be to build a Woo Commerce Landing page/store for your derivative products and drive your community to your own site.

For any project, I like to plan it out using a 5-step approach. You could start by doing research on your subject, sketch thumbnails to decide on the composition, do studies to figure out the values arrangements, line style, textures, then go from there. The speed at which AI tools are being integrated into everything is a bit terrifying, from my standpoint. A lot of the comiccons that I participate in, the organizers do not accept AI generated art, but it's hard to say how that's being monitored. It's a big topic for sure.

copying someone else's art is great for learning technique for personal improvement, but I think in order to grow as an artist you should eventually strive to come up with your own ideas and have the confidence to showcase them. Sometimes artists need to work on using their imagination more and not neglect this part of their creativity. Using your mind to plan and create an original composition can be just as important as being able to skillfully use your art materials.
