Agreed, San Miguel is truly amazing! If you want to spend a lot of money and that's what you enjoy, then that experience is available. But, honestly, it's not necessary to spend a lot of money to enjoy this beautiful city. We stayed in a beautiful two bedroom Casita on a lovely privada (residential street) a ten minute walk from the cathedral. It came complete with fireplace, library, rooftop patio and housekeeping for only $800/month. We walked to the market everyday for mouthwatering, freshly made tortas (sandwiches) and freshly made fruit/veg juices for only $2 each. Around the corner from our Casita was a gem of a restaurant, run by a local family in the front room of their home. No menus, you just ate what was available each day. The three of us ate some of the best Mexican food ever at a cost of only $10 total, for three of us! And don't forget the street food - tacos to die for, only $1-$2 each, elotes (roasted corn with lime and chili) for $1, fresh helado (ice cream) in a dazzling array of flavours (including bourbon and tequila!) for $1-$2 . So don't rule out this destination if you are a budget conscious traveller - seek out off the beaten path experiences, frequented by locals, to enjoy an authentic San Miguel experience without going broke.

Great review. I've been coming to SMdA for 15 years, always on motorcycle rides. I like to stay at Posada de Las Monjas on Canal, about 2 blocks West of El Jardin. Huge parking area and very reasonable rates. You highlighted a bunch of restaurants that I need to try next time, because I go back too many times to old favorites. San Miguel is a study in light and photography, especially during the "golden hour" from about 3 - 6 PM. The patina of old stone and reds and yellows and bougainvillea and a endless numbers of different doors make this town a feast for the eyes. Again, really good video.

I’m so incredibly lucky to be able to visit anytime I want since my wife is from there and her family has homes there. If you have the opportunity though, Don’t skip the Tuesday market. It’s absolutely one of my favorite things to do there when we visit.

We retired in SMA three years ago. A great Peruvian restaurant is Lima, on the Ancha. Haven’t been to Inside Cafe yet. There are SO many places to dine, slowly working our way through them. Definitely more crowded on the weekends due to tourists. Hoping to run into you on one of your visits here. Happy New Year. 🎊

Hey Jordan. I've been going to San Miguel since the early 60s when I was in my early teens. I loved just walking, as you suggest. I'm heading down for 10 days in just 2 weeks, Jan 15 with some friends, renting a house (a LOT cheaper than a hotel) not far from the Rosewood. Yea, their rooftop bar is amazing. In Feb to Ajijic, looking into moving, at least part time. Enjoy your videos very much. Feliz Año Nuevo!

Great honest review, Jordan! Would absolutely love for you to visit, film, give your honest reviews of awesome towns in Mexico that are a lot less known throughout the world... Places that are still "undiscovered' and are safe and way less expensive maybe? Do they even exist in 2022? Road Trip!

another thing not to do: bringing a stroller - the sidewalks are very narrow and uneven, it will make you crazy to try to push your stroller especially in centro when it is crowded. Local children walk from a very young age or are carried - backpack carriers are the way to go...

As a resident I can say, Yes, San Miguel is expensive by Mexican standards, but still a deal if you know where to look. In Guadiana colonia there is a hotel with widows opening on to Parc Guadiana, for only $70 US per night. Just this last weekend we had friends come visit, we went out to eat the first night at "Hecho en Mexico" dinner for 5 people with drinks was under $100US. The next night we went upscale to Casa Nostra 4 people with drinks, wine and steaks came to about $50 per person. While that may be expensive by Mexican standards, something comparable in a large US city would be probably double that.

San Miguel de Allende is known for its well-preserved (and very photogenic) Colonial and Spanish architecture. The tallest building in the city, with a façade of pink limestone, is the Parroquia de San Miguel Archangel.

Great job. I have been going to San Miguel for years; one of my favorite cities in the world. I have stayed in B&Bs, hotels, and houses in SMA. The best choice, and less expensive, is to rent an apt or house through VRBO, especially if you're staying several days or weeks. Having a kitchen and experiencing the local markets and bakeries is a great way to save money to spend on more expensive dinners out. After almost two years of covid isolation, I really miss Mexico. I enjoyed the glimpses along those cobblestone streets!
