Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. One, I CANT believe someone would wear PJs out of their room, especially to the dining room. Its not Walmart :). I totally agree with women bringing coverups or shawls for the pool or dining. My GF definitely uses hers. Secondly, in the future, please advise more information on men's attire for cruising. You briefly go over it, but not too may vloggers do. Thanks and keep up the good videos

It's a new fad. It's for like theme nights or something like that. People all buy onesies. Yes, adult size onesies and they all go and party in their onesies. But it's something they do as a group. I have never seen anyone wear their actual pajamas out of their room. I would never do that because I don't wear gorgeous designer pajamas. It seems like people are spending a lot of time on worry and what other people are wearing. It would be nice if people spent more time concerning themselves with how they are treating other people.

Totally agree on the lounge wear instead of the pajamas. I feel like getting into your pajamas is for part of your night time routine and if you’re a bad sleeper, wearing your pajamas anytime other than when you’re sleeping, it can upset that process. Plus, there are some really cute, comfortable lounge sets that are great for cruise life.

I was wondering about this because I have a nice lounge set in grey that's flowing pants, and a cardigan over a tank, and the trip I'm taking is a west coast cruise to Catalina and Ensenada that gets cool in the evening. I wasn't planning on hitting the main dining room, but wondered if it would be okay for the buffet and I'm thinking yes.

My wife and I have cruised for years and when we first started you definitely had actual formal night which we love to dress up. Now that we are retired, we rarely get that opportunity so we still dress up but my wife just wears a very nice dress and I wear a light suit with a tie. If you are going to the MDR or specialty restaurant you will obviously notice that all the staff are wearing smart, clean uniforms. You should reciprocate by wearing smart, clean clothes while at these venues. As a retired Merchant Marine Officer of 49 years service (although I never worked on passenger/cruise ships), in the officer's dining room uniformed waiters used silver service. All officers reciprocated by wearing full uniform.

I agree totally. I have a very modest swimsuit. The bottoms are long like bicycle shorts. I’m not one for showing too much skin. It’s just my choice. What others do is none of my business. All your suggestions are spot on. Those who argue for wearing pajamas just don’t seem to get that it’s not all about them. Some people are truly offended and being mindful of others is always good. Shawls are great. I wear them so often on a cruise or not. Air conditioning is often too cool and a shawl can be a fun saver in any venue. Take a couple of different colors for variety with your outfits. You’ll be warm and stylish.

If you or someone you know crafts, especially the yarn crafts, a shawl is a relatively simple thing to make. It's essentially a rectangle. I have one I made that looks like it has a LOT of holes and can't do a thing to help keep you warm, but it's really soft and snuggly and keeps me nice and cosy. I almost always make my own for stuff like this. It's just better. Side note: If you ask someone else to make it, take their price and either double it or pay 150% of asking price. GOOD yarn costs a lot of money, and remember you're paying for their skill and time. (I've been asked to make stuff by people who expect the price they'd get from a clothing equivalent of walmart. And to have it that same week. Those people get refused, obviously.) But the handmade stuff is almost always better.

@@juliatarrel1674 I’m a crafter and quilter and just about every other needlework through the years. I quilted professionally for a number of years. Whenever anyone asked me to make a double wedding ring quilt my answer was that just making the top not including fabric or quilting was $1000. Funny how I never had to make one. I did quilt a couple though. I have several, okay a lot of, pashminas that I use even not on cruises. I’ve bought a few when on cruises. They are warm, stylish and can make a white outfit colorful and able to be worn a couple of times but look entirely different.
@juliatarrel1674
@juliatarrel1674 Жыл бұрын
@@02sparklestars02 I hear you. I have a lot of respect for quilters. It's a very exacting craft, and I have enough 'fun' matching stripes across seams, or making the four-point intersection in pants that I know it's not for me! Enjoy your craft, Sparklestars. On the topic of shawls, I've made a variety of shawls and scarves. I enjoy playing with shawls in different thicknesses of yarn, different textured yarns, different shawl shapes and (of course) different colours. Different shawls give a very different look to the same dress. But buy the pashmina shawls if you want a tight knit of a narrow yarn. I don't have the patience to do one of those by hand!

Same with coats traveling from cold weather to warm or vice versa… you may feel silly but double up for travel to avoid extra charges for suitcase limits!

I had dress, shawl, jewelry etc. Dinner was "special" until the guy at the next table wore his jeans t shirt and baseball hat. We looked at the server/maitre d. No one said a single word to him. I agree. My grandparents were big travelers. I'm 56 now and always loved looking at photos from their grand adventures, especially when cruising. Gram and Gramps usually went wth friends and everyone was dressed in their finest for dinner. I still have some of my GM's fave pieces of cruisewear costume jewelry she wore. On a side note, if G&G flew somewhere...like a European trip...they also got dressed up for the flight. Flying off on a fabulous vacation was a special occasion and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for some folks so looking your best was the way to go. This was back in the 70's and 80's when we could still send family off at the actual gate at the airport. My cousins and I always enjoyed seeing the planes departing and arriving before seeing G&G get on their flight. Sorry for rambling but just got a lot of fond memories lol.

I agree with you, pjs belong in the cabin. I agree with the lounge wear much more appropriate! People do actually pay attention to what you wear. Remember the Wal-Mart videos that manage to show up on various media sites? Something to think about. LOL I enjoy you videos and find them very helpful although I am not a first-time cruiser. I have several "a little sparkly" tops that I can just throw in my suitcase, they don't wrinkle, and take one pair of flowy black capris and a nice dressier sandal in black, and I wear these every night in the dining room. Just dressy enough for the nicer restaurants and the formal nights. AND, I feel like I'm on a nice vacation in a fancy restaurant even on the not-formal nights.

I also bought a pair of swim shoes a few years ago and they are a game changer. They have to a good sole so are comfortable and are easy to wash the sand off! Nothing worse than walking in the sand and the water and then have either sand covered feet or wet feet that get sandy/muddy when leaving the beach. I have even worn them while walking around a cruise port.

Already subscribed, people, hit the like button. Cunard you need a jacket every night to enter the MDR. If anyone wears shorts in the MDR they will freeze. The air conditioning is too high. Same with a short sleeve shirt. No Camo clothing. Wore that enough when in the military. Pajamas in the dining room or buffett??? are you crazy??? They have one on Cunard. Always bring closed toe shoes. People pay attention to what others are wearing. And many times they state objections.

For formal night my husband wears dress pants, dress shirt, a fancy leather vest, and a tie. The vest makes it less casual, and it packs without wrinkling. I wear a black skirt and sparkly blouse.I wear the skirts during the day as well, with a t-shirt or casual top, and as a coverup over my bathing suit. So 3 all purpose black skirts gets me through a week on a cruise. I bring a couple pairs of lounge shorts which I sleep in, or wear with a t shirt if it is warm. I love my black pashmina shawl. I wear it on the plane as a scarf.

It seems like athletic wear might be a good idea for those times when you want to wear something relaxing or get a quick drink of coffee and pastry in the morning to bring back to your room. I think a pair of joggers and a T-shirt might be best. And I agree with some others that said they can go to Walmart to see people in their PJ's inpublic.

I was just on the Oasis of the Seas and I was shocked at how slovenly the passengers were dressed for the main dining room. I made my 13 year old son wear dress pants and shirts to the dining room and there were grown men in shorts and a t shirt! Also, our cruise had wear all white one night and another day was wear all red. I wish I had known about this but went to bed relatively early so we didnt attend those parties. I also recommend for the ladies to bring several day dresses. Every morning i would put one on to go to breakfast. It was fast and comfortable AND appropriate wear for any venue in the morning.

My wife tends to wear a nice long silk skirt and blouse on dressy nights. Honestly, except for the jewelry, she dresses nice every night. On our Celebrity cruises, on Chic nights, I wear a pair of slacks (actually really nice cargo pants) and a high end camp (Aloha) shirt. We're talking Nat Nast and Tommy Bahama, not Hilo Hattie's here. Other nights, I wear cargos or jeans and a very nice polo or button up shirt, what we used to call "office casual" (in the days of suits or at least ties). I actually did the same on our last Holland (pre-pandemic) cruise on Formal night. I had noticed other gentlemen wearing slacks and a dressy shirt so didn't think there'd be a problem (and there wasn't). In the "old days" (pre-pandemic), I'd usually rent a tux for the week to wear on Formal night. Some of our favorite cruise photos were from those nights.

The biggest question I still have after looking at the RCL dress code was sleeveless shirts vs. "tanks" in the MDR since some I have are fancy (have metallic woven in) and I would dress it up with a cardigan and fancy scarf. Lot of nice viscose and lycra blend tank/sleeveless tops out there that with the right accessories could have a more lux look (and would be less prone to wrinkles).
@emms443
@emms443 Жыл бұрын
Ilana's top in this video is sleeveless. If you're wearing your cardigan with your arms through the sleeves (and not tied around your shoulders), you should be fine since no one will know you're wearing a tank top.

Yes. I don't wear jeans in the dining room. It's not difficult to change into black slacks and a pretty shirt each night for dinner and theatre. I bring along a nice dress or dressy pantsuit for formal nights. Usually no need for shopping for a new wardrobe for a cruise. The only thing I'm buying this Alaska trip is a pair of sneakers for my husband and binoculars...

We were on the Sky Princess in March and I was surprised to see lots of men wearing shorts(some not so great ones) in the main dining room on casual nights- (not the first or last nights). I agree with everything you said. I would add Please do not wear the complimentary bathrobes out and about. We were on one cruise where there was an obnoxiously loud man that wore his bathrobe (like it was some kind of prize) everywhere. We had the misfortune to run into him every breakfast and several lunches. He berated his wife and children loudly and constantly. I believe my dad wore khaki shirts and an Under Armour workout shirt. I probably wore my Birkenstock slides and my dad wore sneakers (he got finished walking around the promenade deck). No one said a word. But the dining room was practically empty at this time. We probably ate at around 9AM.

I absolutely agree with the fact that other than Cunard most of the other cruise ships are more casual with their formal nights. Leggings and a T shirt for women, shorts and a T shirt for men for bed is a good option especially if you wake hungry for pizza in the middle of the night you don’t have to change out of PJ’s . Flip flops whilst good on board can be a little sloppy if you put wet feet into them straight out of the pool dry your feet or run the risk of a potential ankle sprain ( I should know the flip flop/ thong - yes I’m Aussie ) is pretty much our national shoe so I’m very aware of what can happen wearing them. A rubber slide is actually slightly safer with wet feet . Plus in some areas of some boats you need to wear covered shoes so don’t leave them as your only option when packing.
