Idk, this Season seemed rushed and I just hope next season will show their great writing again..

10:55 I don't think Claudia ever suffered consequences for using dark magic to make pancakes and coffee... Casual use of Dark magic has always been Claudia's thing, it's only when she used the more powerful spells, did she suffer consequences it from it. Also I don't think Claudia's use of Dark magic in the early season ever really was villainized. She even calls Callum out for being judgemental about it and defends her use of it very well. She talks about all of the great things it can help humans accomplish and all of the benefits it brings. Is mashing up a few insects and eggs to make pancakes and coffee any worse than cooking some bacon for breakfast? In the first couple of seasons they always tried to show that Claudia is actually a really good person with good intentions in spite of her use of dark magic. The problem with dark magic, or any any tool really, lies in how it's used. It's when she starts using in to engage in things like literal necromancy where it becomes problematic. Those problematic uses of dark magic are what's changing her, even then, she has always tried to use dark magic to do good things. Her brother was paralyzed from the neck down and she used dark magic to save him so he could walk again. Most people would probably think that was a good thing. Yeah she had to sacrifice a deer to do it, but I know lots of people who kill and eat deer in the real world, so is it really such a bad thing? Some elves and dragons claim dark magic is evil, but just because they say something is evil, doesn't mean it actually is. It's just a different perspective.

Also it’s kind of crazy that earthblood elves capture and ride dragons when their world is literally ruled by dragons…?

I actually always thought the whole "this season is about moon" or "this season is about sky" is honestly kind of stupid and just creates unnecessary limitations on the show. Just tell a great story, you don't need to follow a specific theme every season.

The time-skip is the base of how and why the show got ruined. Time-skips are a delicate art that almost nobody knows how to do correctly, and it shows. It was handled poorly here and just brought us back several step, behind the progress shown in season 2 and ,even more, in season 3

If they keep rewarding Ezran’s naivety I feel that’s a dangerous lesson to teach children. “Just keep on saying be better and accept my changes. The trial scene seemed cool with the Sun Elves. Felt like a good compromise”. Wished it was longer. And hoped there was more of a rebellion against Ezran. Decades of bloodshed on both sides doesn’t go away due to a child leading a kingdom. Overall it felt underwhelming. Wished there was a mage battle between Claudia and Callum, only for Callum to be ambushed by Viren. The Earthblood Elves seemed shallow. The cultures of the Elves and the Humans are not explored that much. The different biomes, food, culture, etc. Trade relations. Rivalries, friendships. Not explored, and this is the 4th season. Too many jokes and everyone is a dork. Is stoicism such a bad thing to show? In a fantasy show? Even the dragons, long lived beings, are dorks.

13:00 I think putting them to sleep was fine. Claudia isn't evil and would prefer to avoid a confrontation. She's interested in winning and achieving her goals, but she's not interested in actually fighting them and possibly killing them. There is also that moment where she's caught staring at Callum, clearly still having some sort of feelings for him even though she denies it when asked.

This season we were constantly told that people were upset instead of shown that they were. The visit of the dragon queen could have involved a shadowy humanist, anti-Xadian movement within Katolis and Ezran tasks Corvus, who had nothing to do apart from classical music, to infiltrate the conspiracy to assassinate Zubeia or something hidden. Amaya was wasted in this season as the whole Sun elf conflict and coup was again surface level with no evidence whatsoever of any enmity for the humans on the part of the elves aside from Janai's 2-faced brother whose coup with his girlfriend on the council went out faster than a birthday candle on a mountaintop.

One of the biggest problems for me at least was where did rayla go? It's been years since I watched the last season of the dragon prince so when I watched season 4 and rayla came back I assumed that I had either missed or forgotten something that she did at the end of season 3. Nope apparently she went off and did something that was explored in a novel which is frustrating.

This season was definitely underwhelming compared to the previous seasons which had me at the edge of my seat literally every episode.

13:33 Claudia wasn't the antagonist this season, she was the main character, with the most screen time and the most lines, she dominated and carried every scene she appeared in. Even when she wasn't on screen, very often she was still the topic of the scene. This was Claudia's story, it's all about her. Antagonists this season are people like Ibis and Rayla who got in her way of trying to achieve her goals.

I think Claudia knocking everyone out was a very clever move and made sense within the story. The show has already established that she is capable of sleep magic, and if I'm a young dark mage hell bent on a mission walking into a room full of powerful enemies, including an Arch Dragon, with few allies and as the most powerful fighter of my group, looking for a map and not a fight, I'm going to use all of my tools to not get into a fight in the first place. That doesn't, however, excuse the lack of real battle when they started to wake up? And I thought Rex trying to kill the protagonists after /watching them get knocked out first/ was kind of ridiculous and made him look like a complete moron. Also, I was confused about the water pools too. I had many other qualms with this season, but I'll hold out for the next seasons. I have some faith it can get better from here.

I agree with you so much about Callum's magic. Episode 1 is the stupidest of the season yet it has the coolest magic. It's almost like the creators are afraid of making Callum use magic because he will overshadow other characters or something, never mind that a mage MC and magic-centered story (primal vs dark magic) were the promises this series set from the start.

Glad I am not the only one who thought this season was sub par

I want the earth blood elves to do something. Maybe they could show us some of that human elf bigotry. They could show up on the human side of Zadia and a forest just appears. Like on top of our trade routes.

I was really hoping to see more of Soren vs Claudia and Viren conflict but it was really underwhelming and I don't think Soren and Viren even spoke to each other?

I give my couple thoughts. I also think that this show did not handle the earth theme well. These earthblood elves in the forest could have been some human dark mages that hunt for dragons and the story wouldnt change much. I mean there is a boring sun fire elf plotline that couldd be replaced. What if the sun fire elves had to deal with earthblood elves (Maybe from Terrys home) instead of domestic problems. Callum The problem with callum is that the show doesnt tell us how powerful mages are. What are the limits? Do you know that Viren killed most of Dragon guard (last Q and Answers with the showwriters)? How often can Callum cast his lighting spell in a minute. Does he get tired if he overuses his magic. If yes when will it happen. How common are mages? Are they well respected or are they feared? Dark magic: In season 4 dark magic was underutilized. Dark magic was the central point that ignites the conflict between human and elves. It is just magic that the bad guys are using. Where are the dark mages? Amayas and Janai plotline could have dealt with dark magic instead of domestic problems. Season 5 I think if we conclude that season 5 feels rushed and has too much plot in too few episodes then the writers have objectivly messed up season 4. But i think i will watch this show to the end, because when a show becomes a trainwreck then its kind of educational how not to write a story.

Great breakdown. Agree with most of the points here. The editing and quality was crazy good, you definitely deserve well over 47 subscribers. Would've loved to see an even more detailed breakdown including other plotpoints like the sunfire elf drama. Looking forward to seeing more videos coming up

I binge watched season 1-3 when all season have been out, so i never realised how weird the endings were. After watching season 4, i have to say, it just feels off, like they cut a seaon in half. There is just no milestone or any sense of accomplishment. Compared to the storypace In the Last Airbender, where every season ends with some form of clear achievment, for the good or the bad side. Last Airbender does also have many episodes, that seem pointless for the mainplot, but at least they teach something to the main-characters, or enhance their relationship somehow.

I had the same complaints about this season as you. Couldn't summarize it any better I hope they take the criticism on this season into consideration. I really liked your video, keep it up!

Forgot to ad. But how is the Queen of Dragons just so chill? Gets plastered with Tart juice and laughs it off? Every other dragon weve meet has been truer to what a dragon is.. a being so far above us, that we are insignificant

This was a relationship rebuild season taking place after the dragon prince book (beyond the looking glass) Specifically the relationship of Callum & Rayla, it also shows an introduction relationship for the audience centered around Claudia & Terry. The relationship between Claudia and Terry appears to mear the friendship with Callum that would have developed in to a relationship that Callum and Claudia desired in the beginning of the series if things did not go the way they did.

Did some of their top talent quit? This feels like what happens when some of their best writers bail.

By the way I like these long format videos, I think you can go into a lot more detail about your thoughts that way. And I think the quality of your videos are quite good especially seeing how this is one of your first videos. And I hope you can do as much dragon prince content as you can because I love it when anyone talks about the show so I’ll definitely your dragon prince videos in the future

I felt off watching this season and was kind of disappointed by the way it was written. Agreed with everything you pointed out.

After how great the first three seasons were, I gotta get to grips with the fact that I'm disappointed with the direction this book took. Firstly, the whole B-plot with the racist caricature Elves that speak like they were colonised by the French was so uninteresting to me that I began skipping it, especially towards the end when things started getting interesting with discount-Smaug. At the very beginning when I thought Aaravos was going to try to seduce Callum to be his new Viren, I was basically that Vince McMahon meme so when he reveled himself to be nothing but a bad guy in the most overt fashion I was like; Hmkay... I also disliked Rayla just having f'd off and suddenly returning out of the f'ing blue, either commit to it or don't do it in the first place. I also really didn't like Claudia's... Development, it's hard to put my finger on it but rest assured, I didn't like it. Perhaps a practitioner of Dark Magic and a fugitive shouldn't have an elf boyfriend. In the scene where she is looking at the unconscious Callum and declares that they are not friends anymore, maybe it would have felt more impactful if it had been set-up better but as it stands it rang false.

Great that you mentioned the elemental magic for the season and the miss opportunity of exploring the earth kingdom or area and earth magic. Xadia is the best location in the series filled with magic and elves. Where their culture or use of magic is seen in the environment and people. Human kingdoms are boring and the same-ie where you could have done something unique in other places.

I mean was 3 year not enough time for story writing?

Of course making them fall asleep was the smartest writing decision. Did you seriously expect Claudia to fight Callum, Rayla and Rex Igneous, an Arch Dragon and longtime rival of Avizandum whom even Aaravos stated was the most powerful creature on the entire planet, by herself? And that's not even including Zym who, despite his age, is pretty powerful in his own right. Claudia's not an idiot. She knew she had absolutely no chance in a direct fight, so of course putting them to sleep was the right decision. It's simple common sense.

Brutal season, makes me want to drop the show but I’ll check out a couple episodes next season and I’ll see if I’ll watch

Okay. So long video. So I'll edit this comment if I get anything worth while to add, Until then. MY THOUGHTS ON DRAGON PRINCE SEASON 4, This is merely a statement of my thoughts. 3/10 and I am being nice. Thank you that is all. Okay. So I want to throw out the reason that I started to scream at my T.V. During Season 4 Episode 9 1.The characters act surprised when Rex tells them he doesn't know where the prison is, when they knew he didn't know the spot. That he had a CLUE. All the arch dragons do. 2. Claudia is revealed and every one stands around doing nothing. Zym and Rex that can sense the HUGE amount of Dark Magic around her? Something we've seen dragons are able to sense. Callum and Rayla, Both people who know her personally as not just a threat at this point, but a MAJOR threat. Callum can shoot lightening and Rayla is insanely fast, yet they all stand there are as Claudia casts a spell...pulls up her flute, and starts playing. Okay. So now Rayla is going to tell everyone try and prick your self, or bite your lip. Warn them that is how she beat this before right? Their surely not just going to stand there let her do it...Yeah? Aaaand they do. They do that. 3. Zym(Who is still awake? Might have missed something.), frees Soren and he wakes Rayla, Then they take action either none of the three waking up the royal brothers. Use their sneak attack to have the ASSASSIN sneak up on the distracted mage and disable her? Nah. Lets stab the dragon sending him into a fucking rage spiral. Suddenly acting like everyone is out to get him despite the fact that it was fairly clear Claudia was not on their side and that the had warned him that people were coming to him in hostility. 4. Rayla chases after Viren during a rampaging dragon attack. This is so radically stupid, so brain dead, and as some one who didn't read the book but this is such a hugely bizarre thing for her character to do as far as I am concerned that at this point that has to be some type of Rayla Mimic. 5. After Claudia bluffs and breaks the stalemate. Terry has the nerv to call her out on it?! A threat, a Bluff, and Slight of hand are not worse than full on murder my dude. Full Stop. She did for him, EXACTLY what he did for her. 6. Rayla doesn't keep chasing them down?! She just gives up? She can climb that ledge by her self. We KNOW she can. We've seen much more impressive feats from her. But...just gives up. Sure. You have just made this very stupid choice, POINTLESS. Even after she is given the coins by Claudia. WHY NOT STOP THIS NOW! Your whole fucking reason for ditching your boyfriend on his birthday is RIGHT there! 7. How the heck did Rayla escape? I'm dead serious. How did she get out. If you're telling me that her little monkey thing teleported her out, well that is just the Pandora's box of future major plot holes. As now every single event that happens, will have to answer the question of "Why not portals." And Edited

for all that they showed us about earthblood culture this season, it makes little sense for them TO be the dragon riders of the elves-- it just depends on the viewers to come up with theories to rationalize the decision rather than giving any proper hint to anything. your point about how the earthblood elves could have been from anywhere hits so hard because i could think of a particular type of elf that WOULD be more associated with flying dragons, and SHOULD have more presence: the skywing elves. i get that this book was called Earth, but what's the point of its name if the element itself is inconsequential to the entire season?

Honestly, when I pictured the Earth magic Elves I pictured them being more like the Onu-Matoran from Bionicle. Living underground in a cave of their own making with stone huts, and mining the gems, magic rocks, and other precious metals from the earth to trade with other elves.

The sleeping spell was clever I thought. It's the kind of things that the fans come up with: "why didn't she just make them fall asleep instead of giving herself all that trouble with the more complicated spells ?" Also Terry's saying about helping plants instead of controlling them was good, it resonates with Viren trying to control the crops to feed his people.

it doesnt help that we had to wait so long. you start building expectations. it kinda left me thinking "i waited for this?" even tho i love the dragon prince

My main problem with this season is that they completely changed Raylas personality. Which was dissapoitning since her charisma was the best part of the first three seasons

Great video! I totally agree with you! I think that there's a lot of problems with this season in all honesty. Like the main trio didn't really feel developed at all, and any chance of them problem solving as a team was kinda stripped away when they added N'Than to just tell them how to get through. I also felt like characters in general didn't think through solutions very well (Like why didn't Zubeia crash through the boulders blocking the 1st path to Rex Ignus? She's a giant powerful archdragon after all...). To me, it felt like the writers were so excited to rush into this grand plot (and the potential of recapturing the magic of the first seasons), that they forgot what made TDP work so well in the first place. Still hopeful s5 will improve, but I have my doubts. Anyways I think your video was fantastic. You were very well-spoken and I enjoyed your perspective (I hadn't even thought of how the element of earth tied in until now!). I'm excited to watch more of your videos!

Callum magic use is so cool, I wish he did more just casual like the first episode. To show the experience gain in the two year time skip like in the first episode. But what we saw was cool, Claudia was pretty good but she op and can do anything the plot needs. They really did nothing with the combat and fight like what a waste.

I don't have that many thoughts towards this season. I didn't love it and I'm not sure I like it either. it feels so inconsistent with the other seasons and it's like they had a lot of ideas but didn't really plan it out. I didn't realize this season was based on earth honestly. it just felt like they were going on a trip. another quest, and not also trying to break down a whole magic type. also, alot of ditches from the previous seasons, like Calum improved but he doesn't really use the magic to make himself stronger. I thought ezrin would've matured a bit more and the voice actor is great, don't get me wrong, but he does sound the way he looks and it was a bit weird to look at. the actions don't make up for it either. he feels like he's still a really little kid and not at all like someone who had to take over a kingdom for several years now. rayla seemed to calm down but I guess this is some development idk. I kinda miss when she made jokes all the time and awkward remarks. I can't really explain it. sorin is well, Sorin and I love that. bad jokes and all. my biggest peeve is the fact it feels like we missed a lot. and I mean a lot. I was so confused at first. it felt like I somehow skipped some episode or movie. also the pet that rayla brought along. I forgot it was there half the time. it was used once, and never again. the whole season felt like it was too rushed and too slow at the same time. so many things are happening but the only ones that felt connected were the things with the antag and the protag. the sun elves arc is nice, but it felt empty. I get wanting the best for your people, but besides one conflict, no one bats an eye. we don't even really see any separation between the humans and elves. like if the tents were set up differently or there is an obvious faction between the two but I didn't notice anything so it felt like the brother was just running off fear. if the people were so scared, show it. show the doubts they had when their ruler got engaged. show weird glances thrown or small passive aggressive actions between the two. stop saying: "the people are afraid." show it. how are they afraid? how are they going to retaliate? have there been fights? if it's been years, how come common things such as death traditions have not been a recognized issue earlier. from what we've been told, they were living in tents for a while so how is it now they have to make such changes. do elves hardly die or something?

I agree, by far the weakest season, 1) I don't buy that Claudia would be attracted to "Terry" for a second and similarly that someone "good" like Terry would follow the villains group without asking more questions and 2) Are we supposed to believe that Claudia hid in the Spire cave for 2 years and never got found? 3) The comedy was too prevalent this season and very weak, e.g. the fart jokes and 4) The entire Lux Aurea storyline was the dullest arc the show has done, I would have removed it entirely and shown more flashbacks that SHOWED the events that occurred during the 2 years instead of them just happening off screen, e.g. Rayla leaving, Claudia for the 2 years, etc. 5) Why can't Aaravos speak through the moth monster? Instead they make it another cute dumb creature for the villain group?

We kinda meet a new character for every season. Season 1 Moon: Rayla (Moonshadow elf) Season 2 Sky: Zym, +Callum finding his arcanum thingy Season 3 Sun: We meet Sol Regem (“The king of dragons, sun dragon) Season 4 Earth: We meet Terry, Claudia’s boyfriend, who is an Earthblood elf. I’m pretty sure in season 5 we’ll meet a Tidebound Elf.

Also, regarding the arch dragon, the water pools are one thing, but he is also extremely fire-y? He breathes fire and magma, glows like fire, and his name could literally be interpreted as "king of fire". Not very earth-like to me. Like, okay, I get it, igneous rock, magma is molten rock, hot springs are connected to geology... but earth elves and earth magic we saw before was plant based. So which is it? Because plants and magma feel mutually exclusive. Not to mention that neither of these things are the good old avatar earth bending and that's a bit of a missed opportunity because the ground itself is the point of the element.

about the Earth related stuff, yeah, i kinda expected more from the Earthblood Elves and Rex Igneous, and from those guard golems too when i saw them. i think Terry was okay, not every spell has to have instant effects, and he's more likely a peaceful guy rather than a warrior, so it seems okay from him to just help here and there, and freaking out from that he killed someone, even if he did it to protect someone who he loves. but i would point out something that is Earth related in the storytelling, and not the magic. healing, rebuilding, restoration. Earth magic is connected to nature, growth, and through that, healing. and there were wounds that healed some through this season. the entire Janai-Karim storyline, Ezran's speech in episode 3, and also Callum and Rayla's relationship needed some healing, which they got i guess. when they saw Viren, Rayla said she must go after him, and Callum said "i understand", hinting with this that he forgave her. about the dark magic and antagonistic part, well, i kinda like that we don't have to root against the villains, because... i don't really think that they are villains, just not on the good side, all because of Aaravos, who is the actual villain. Viren seemingly changed a bit, and i think he will continue to do so. and i wouldn't call Claudia evil. sure, she has some cruel methods from time to time, but her only goal is to save his father because she loves him. i think this whole "Viren, Claudia, Terry and... whatever that thing it wants to be that was the star caterpillar before" team is a pretty interesting setup as the "opposing team". oh, and the elf guy you don't remember his name, N'than. he kinda seems like a "tour guide/support character" like Ellis was before. i'm not saying the season was perfect, but i really liked it, and the characters felt like themselves. the overall story may seems a bit weird, but it's because it took a different direction than the previous 3 seasons, which is obviously because it's not about bringin Zym home anymore. anyways, nice video, Hay's the best :) edit: also the Claudia vs Callum, Rayla and Ezran in front of Rex Igneous you mentioned would been cool, but i kinda saw the scene where Claudia put everyone asleep with a spell like... she is so powerful that she doesn't even have to fight, and you can't fight her. but i guess the sleeping spell will grow old if she continues using it

I thought I was too excited that I got kinda disappointed at it, but that wasn't the case I guess! I was kinda disappointing to see the lack of using magic, and the fact that they had that cool build-up for the ending fight, but just didn't do anything cool with the ending, is like the show is getting worse somehow compared to season 3. I was so disappointed at the ending because season 3 had such a cool fight. Also there is none more thing, I thought the entire Sunfire Elf plotline was kinda unnecessary. I really, REALLY, hate Janai's brother. Like he just keeps complaining and complaining and it makes me mad for some reason. (Also that end fight could have been cooler as well) Overall, I don't really like this season as much I thought I would. Hope the seasons get better from now on, because from seasons 1-2-3 felt like they keep getting better. (Untill now sadly) Also great review! I agree on a lot of things you've said. You are definitely underated.

I think the sleeping spell is a way to show how Claudia is more powerful than anyone in the protagonists team, she beat them all without even trying

This season was terrible. 3 years and the animation, the storylines and the characters development have all suffered. Only highlight was the backstory of Aravos, but what killed it for me was the skipping of important story lines (what Claudia did? what Rayla did?) and the childish jokes (rain farts and lizard in a hat). Whole season was a let down and I cant see another 10 episodes in another 2 years making it any better. I for one now hope Aravos destroys the world and ends the series ha!

Season 4 had some highs and lows I felt it should have focused on the title which is the mystery of Aarvos like his back story and also showed more earth magic like Callum learning some

No, it was not good. Writing was sloppy, they played too much into two dimensional stereotypes, dialogue was atrocious, and voice acting was half assed and in some cases, quite bad (for example, Karim)

I honestly feel like every season is both rushed and too short. BUT ya know, I still love the show. It just doesn't live up to its own potential.

Struggled through season 1. Really enjoyed seasons 2-3! Was utterly disappointed by season 4, wtf happened to the writers?? They went ‘final season Game of Thrones’ on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they said that they were writing animating and recording all of seasons 4 5 and 6 at the same time it kind of feels like season 4 got middle book syndrome where it's just a lot of buildup and the writers in team are trying to rush through it to get to the really juicy parts of the story but in the meantime sacrifice good build up. Ffs they put the BIGEST character development plot for Calum and Rayla in a SIDE comic the not every fan can or will buy. I've seen so many reactions to the beginning of the season with people just asking where's Rayla what happened to Rayla. I know the pandemic and work from home was really rough on everybody and they didn't even know they got greenlit for seasons 4 through 7 until the middle of the pandemic but you figured it would be better to take your time and make sure the returning season 4 was done right and also not held up in production for almost 3 damn years. I think making seasons for five and six at the same time under the conditions of the pandemic kind of took its toll on this show and it's kind of obvious here's hoping that seasons 5 and 6 are improved.

the season felt incredibly short, i thought the season was going to get atleast close to figuring out who aaravos is but instead hes mentioned a handful of times and all we spend 9 episodes getting let down by rex igneus, might i add that callum and the crew never actually get the map and its not explained how terry has the map.

Hello! I would just like to share that Umbor Tor is in fact the "Earth Nexus" (much like the Sky Spire is the Sky Nexus)! That wasn't something that was ever explicitly "told", so I figured that was an important detail to share. I also wanted to point out that the "pool" Rex Igneous comes out of is in fact a water sulfur pool, which is rich in minerals! I like to think this is a subtle nod to the fact that he seems to be connected to the "mineral, crystal, and rock" side of the earth arcanum, while all the earthblood elves we see are connected to the "animal, plants, and nature" half of the arcanum. So, I actually think it makes perfect sense the drakeriders were so closely related to dragons (rather than "showing" other powers like you suggested). Animals are an important part of the Earth Arcanum! The writers put earthblood elves on dragons because doing so was significant to what they wanted to show about the earth arcanum. Now, maybe that's not what you want earthblood elves to be, and that's fair. Another thing I want to talk about was your mention of the viewer having no reason to root against dark magic this season. I think the easy answer is that season 4 is working off of 3 seasons of already pre-established lore and build-up. I don't really think the writers need to "show" that again. But, for the sake of argument, I'll point out a few places were I think they held up that "dark magic can be fucked up" standard: Claudia killed 3 innocent child puffer bats (the end credits show 3 small puffer bats next to 2 big ones, implying that they were children), she keeled over after unleashing their "guide" from it's cocoon, Viren hesitates using his staff/dark magic the whole season, showing how he relates it to his death and how he "pretended to be something he isn't" ("You will do things in the name of love you never thought possible" (I'm paraphrasing lol)), Callum was only able to become Aaravos' puppet because he used dark magic in season 2 (shown by the flash of black in his eyes before becoming a puppet, confirmed in interviews), and those are just what I can think of off the top of my head. Plenty of other people have defended Claudia's use of the sleeping spell, so I won't touch on that here. I *do* want to point out however that I think their confrontation was set up for a future mage battle! Our protagonists have horribly failed in their mission of preventing the freedom of Aaravos, and a fight between Callum and Claudia and/or Viren is in the cards. The writers are totally building it up narratively! This season was a lot of set-up (just like season 1), and personally I'm very excited to see how it all plays out in season 5.

Gotta say, I do not agree the way you spoke about dark magic. In the first season this handled as yes “bad” way yo use magic but it’s never villanize. In this season with credits images and the scene when they drink their spirits it’s really sad for the family of bats that died. I also think as a feedback instead of saying “use more magic casually” explain how. Which moment callum needed to use magic casually? Making fire? Lifting the mirror with Soren?. I think the use of magic was pretty well handled agreeing with another comment that Claudia and her arc were the main focus. So that point you said is ambiguous in my opinion. I really liked this season and I agree, there are big issues with this one but I believe in the payoff that will come later. The main issue in my opinion is that this season mostly set for future season, so I completely agree that this book is the one that can’t stand by itself the most. Regarding the video I think you can clearly see the effort but when it comes to the script some thing could’ve been explained better. I really liked though and you definitely got a new sub ❤.

Yeah if I had to choose I would say cut the battle of Claudia with the sky elf and make an actual battle between the game and the arch dragon versus her

Yeaaa season 4 was not worth the wait there were so many cringy parts Raila was not acting like herseft exept wen she was with Soren there were issues with the Lighting on the careter no progress with the sun elves but that was just boring I just hope season 5 will be better cuz this season was just disappointing

As you definitely remember, I went on a pretty long rant about how much I hated the first few episodes of season 4. After watching this video, which was great by the way, I might continue to watch the show with the hope that maybe the next season will be better, because just like you I love the show, and I just really want enjoy the new season but my first impression was definitely not the best. I think I will watch the rest of the season to make fun of it 😂 and also just to catch up in case season 5 comes out and it’s really good. This is gonna be long cause Iots of thoughts happening First of all, I really liked this show when it fisrt came out. I didn't consider it perfect, but it was fun, interesting. I enjoyed the characters and the mystery of Aaravos and dark magic. And I want it to be good, to expand on the world, the characters and so on. This season was so boring and disappointing on the other hand. And it made me realize some problems. We barely know anything of this world, human cultures are basically non-existent. Katolis is quite generic and since this show is about differences in cultures, then it should be more defined. I don't really know what to expect from people from Katolis other than them being generically good I guess. Same thing with elves. They look different, cool, they have different accents, which is nice. But we do not know that much of them. Let's compare this to the nations in the Avatar. Well defined, structured. We can see them on screen without exploring extra materials. The cultures are part of the world as we explore it. This especially applies to two subplots - the Sunfire elves (which take a lot of screen time despite this season being dedicated to Earth) and the alliance/reconciliation between Ezran and Zubeia. The sunfire elves plot was so contrived. The conflict with the camp that apparently cannot handle fire (like, you know we were using fire in camps for a long time, yea it's not always safe but still just why) is very on the nose and poorly constructed. Are we really supposed to believe that in 2 whole years absolutely no one was using fire there? What about cooking food? Aren't the nights cold? Also, no one did the sacred last rites in the course of those 2 years? Humans should at least heard about them. Moreover, why Amaya and Janai don't know about each others cultures? Kinda a big deal when you are a ruler who is, like Janai's brother says, making a political and symbolical statement. Yes, I know they are trying to create a new world of peace and understanding, but first we need to know these cultures more in order to know what to change if change something at all. Of course if the sunfire elves have death sentence for violating last rites, we are gonna be appaled by it. We need to understand why these traditions exist in the first place. Ezran, oh Ezran... I realy don't like the way they are handling his character. He's too naive, too idealistic. I know, he's a kid, but he is also a king. He should know that the world is generally complex. And they are using him to tell us the morals. We should be able to see them. Even if this show is for younger audience, that does not mean that we should just be told what to think. He's young but he has council around him, made out of people more experienced, who should teach him things. The council lady warns him only before the day of the meeting with Zubeia that the place they chosen for it is kinda a place for massacre and it has pretty bad associations. This should be brought up way before. Why is she losing braincells? Callum and Rayla. I know people love them. If you do, good, have fun. Pesonally, wasn't my thing that they made them a couple. Was inevitable but I'd rather see them as friends. Their break up is not handled very well. The letter that Rayla left him should be read to us, instead than leaving it in the extra materials and just mentioning it. It made me feel very weird about her, like why did you leave. Do you really think you can just come back to normal? It really feels like the show wants to make us feel the same things it made us feel before, because writing functioning ongoing relationships without drama is hard I guess. It was especially bad when Callum brings up the fact that Aaravos possesed him while being in a prison, and Rayla basically says that Callum is a master of his fate and taht he should just get a grip. Girl, there are some things that belief in your own efficacy won't change. Big scary mage is probably one of these things. Your boyfriend seems to be pretty traumatized by it. Soren, oh my boy, you have disapointed me. I really loved him, now they made him lose braincells. He seems to just exist to be a comic relief. I really wanted to see him dealing with the loss of his family, that it changed him but it barely shows. Claudia. They should focus on the consequences of her bringing back her dad. She implies she has done some scary things but that's it. Still the same Claudia after two years. O, that note, why is Terry that okay with her using dark magic. Like, they made pretty big deal out of the fact that elves hate dark magic. Dragons say that dark mages smell of death. Why is he so okay with any of this? Viren is the only interesting character expect for Aaravos and Bait for me. Just personally. Dark characters are my thing and that's just that. What is the hierarchy in this world? Why are some dragons used like animals? Who rules the elves? Who decided to assasinate king Harrow? Is there some council? Why this council is not mentioned especially in the subplot of Ezran and Zubeia. Also, in the future, when Runaan gets out of the coin prison, how are they going to handle the fact that he killed king Harrow? Are they just going to forgive him? Like, it's not about retaliation, but about consequences. And not just about Ezran personally. How they handle this is going to send the message to other kingdoms. And criminals (are there even some in this world except for dakr mages I guess). "Come to our kingdom, just do whatever, we will forgive you"xd So yeah, many thoughts. Overall pretty bad season. the fights might not make sence in terms of story telling, but if you were claudia you wouldt want to just fight a dragon, youd come up with a plan in advance, tho i do regret how rexes mood and "world view" changes with a snap and then hes acting like an angry toddler cursing main crew even tho they told him "hey someone bad is trying to attack and wer here to stop or prevent them from doing that, you rivals and bffs wife send us to do that" and then hes just like LIAAAARSSS BLABLABLAAAAH PAMPER TANTRUM AAAAGH was really disapointing, also about the inconsistent power of the blood earth elves, claudias bf said that he has more of a good relationship with the plants, and well,..... plants in diferent environment have diferent limitations not to mention he probbobly didnt want to trouble the plant on that mountain bc lets be honest, not that many plants can even survive in such hights, it would also make sence why he was less powerfull underground since not many plants live underground either (accept their roots ofc but since it was rocky everywhere i dont see that helping much either) and i think the fart jokes were ment to make the difference between how serious dad is and how weird and silly the couple is even clearer then it was before

I actually thought Claudia’s use of the sleep spell was a good way of showing her character. She wants to win but she didn’t want to hurt her old friends. She didn’t want to cause more hurt than she needed too. I just think they should have been able to battle her spell… That she could make even the dragon fall asleep without any resistance annoys me.

Personally I don’t think this season was horrible it just wasn’t good ether, it lacked content and for some reason the writers decided tell not show was the right way to go, personally I think it would have been better if they animated the novel and comic instead of assuming you had read those first before you saw season 4, even having read those before hand, the season felt a bit empty, honestly season 4 suffers from the same problems as kh3 did if you have played the game you’ll know what I mean, it’s a build up installment and unfortunately the season accomplished very little, it did nothing wrong, but it could have been better and the fact we had to wait 3 years for it was the most upsetting part

I didn't have any complaints from season 1-3 I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and pretend that this didn't take 3 years The season still isn't good even if it took 4 to 5 months Some of the scenes..... Im like they could of just use magic....... The jokes were terrible.... Even my little cousin like 😑....... So many unanswered questions so many fillers now they're going to have to play catch up with season 5 and 6 explaining the bacc story when they could of did it in season 4..... Season 4 feels empty its just don't feel the same anymore.

I really enjoyed S4. I might be in the minority, but I think S4 is as good as S3. People tend to forget....this season is the start of a new arc aka the "mystery of aaravos". So....it should be expected to be very different from S3 since S3 was the end of "phase 1". I have high hopes, next season, we gonna get alot good payoff.

Season 4 left a lot of desire but it was a good season. Season 3 left us with the end to the first act of the coming conflict. Which meant characters had to go their separate ways and season 4 was a way to show us how things are after season 3. Season 4 was the Season 1 of the second act. Sun Elves: Showed us the fragile peace between humans and peace and another war might begin Viren: The personal conflict in trying to grow from the man he used to be or regressing back into his old habits Ezran: The coming conflicts will test his beliefs when people refuse to let old hatred die Claudia: The conflict between keeping her father alive through vile acts or letting go and moving on Callum: His love for magic may tempt him to go down a dark path Rayala: Sacrificing the people she loves for the world or the world for the people she loves.

This went from my top show to dead to me. Season 4 killed it for me. I have no interest in watching any more of it.
