What Positions Should I Use for My Moving Lights?

One of the benefits of moving lights is that you can point them in as many positions as you can possibly think of. This can be a blessing and a curse! Here are the 8 positions I use any time I am lighting music.

What’s your suggestion to try making an effect that bounces between the various positions?

You mentioned in your video trying for a tilt only preset for sky positions. Is Onyx able to do this? If so I haven't figured it out yet... :)

Yep, CLEAR the pan before you record (right-click, clear, as well as other methods)

Thanks for this. If only we had some moving lights. Small church, small budget, etc. Are a lot of churches using haze?

It's a mix. Some do use haze, others don't. It can do a lot for your lighting, and it's worth it if you are focusing a lot on making great lighting, especially if you're using movers.

Here's what I've learned... ONLY the lighting designers in the congregation will know the difference between a $200 and a 2 grand moving head! what matters is how you control them, and I'd recommend using software, or even an app which will offer you EXCEEDINGLY more flexibility than most affordable hardware consoles! Also, if you already have LED pars, I'd recommend spot fixtures even a simple one that's very bright, well constructed and affordable can look amazing!!

@@hiptoalieu true. Even better a led wash light with zoom feature. They can double as a spot and a wash, dependingbon their focus even as a beam. So you get all 3 in one fixture.
