The Djokovic racquet was modified based on a visual biomechanical software program developed by Roman from RPNY , here in manhattan . Head did not like the fact that they had to redrill his racquet with a new 18x19 grommet set , after seeing the analysis . He also extended the racquet a small bit .

Great video and great channel!! I would suggest not start by copying the lead placement at 3 and 9 from Novak because that makes the SW gain from those strips too low, instead I would stack up those strips and put them more at 10 and 2 O'clock. But thank you for the awesome content you're putting out!

I did that too but didn’t include it in the video due to time constraints. Still didn’t work. Plus the twistweight was significantly less and I felt returns were negatively affected by the change.

I think my set up is a bit similar, and I can identify with the fairly effortless power. Head Radical Bumblebee 95 sq inch head. Some lead added, original grip replaced with two overgrips. Balance 33.5cm, static weight 358g. String tension 25lbs (which is different to Nole but adds power also), but sometimes it feels like playing ping pong the power is so effortless. I also a short take back on the forehand which might help to accommodate the higher swing weight. But very solid for blocking back returns. I originally played with wood so it probably doesn't feel so heavy!

@@TennCom Hi Beckett. Prince synthetic gut 17 gauge usually. My swing on the forehand is not very whippy, but can still get good top spin with the low tension. I have one of the Radical Zebras which is strung at 22lbs. If the balls are a bit faster I have a couple of rackets a bit tighter around 28, but this works well. I would imagine that with poly string this would also be ok. I think Manninaro is down around 25lbs now also.

The 98 is a true 95. Head used to measure headsize from the outside of the beam. The rest of the industry measures from the inside of the beam. This accounts for about 3 square inches, meaning they are 90, 95 and 100 by most measuring standards.

You may want to not copy Novak lead placement but get it all to 10 and 2 zones to maximize both TW and SW. This my alter the feel though, as frame is flexy. And also use heavy putty under the buttcap rather than leather grip. Minor, but extra bit of balance shift. It was also said that Nole's frame is 95, but this might have something to do with old Head approach to measure head size based on outside of the hoop. So your 98 LM is actually 95 if measured inside.
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
I actually tried what you said about the weight but decided to cut it out of the video because the video was long enough already. Having the lead up there helped me get the balance correct, but the SW still fell short by 10 points and the TW was a full point lower. You are also correct with the comment on headsize. Head calls this a 98, but its a 95 by everyone else's standard. I believe Head changed their measuring for the Graphene series but not sure.

Update: I´ve seen a *Head Intelligence i.Radical MP* for sale - is this one of or similar to the pre-2018 Djokovic *PT113B1* molds? Or is it totally different spec. because of the mold? (it´s the orange/black with lime green on the throat model) Specs are as follows: - 98 sq. in. / 630 sq. cm - 27 in. / 68.6 cm - 295g unstrung - *308g strung* - 2pts Head Light / 340 mm balance - *297 swing-weight* - 64 Flex - 21mm beam - 18 x 20 mains x cross Seems too light/low-SW - could it be effectively ´customized´ with enough lead-tape to make it playablke at heavier weight/SW? Thanks in advance!

The iRadical is the same mold. Its actually a 95 by modern measuring standard, but Head used to measure headsize from the outside of the beam, instead of the inside like everyone else. If you put these numbers in the TW customization calculator (Google and ye will find), that'll tell you how close you can get.

I played with a Head Liquidmetal Prestige MP until earlier this Spring. It's a cannon. I think it's somewhere above 340 swing weight stock. I switched to a Speed Pro because it was hurting my shoulder to play with it - if you have the arm (muscle and tendon) strength to handle this racket, it is a great racket to play with - if you make contact in the sweet spot. I think the most comparable racket Head offers right now would be the Prestige Pro - same head size (98), same string pattern, similar control-oriented frame, unstrung weight of 320. I tested out that racket when I was looking for something new and it plays almost exactly like my Liquidmetal - in fact so similar that I decided it would be dumb to buy it - basically just replacing the racket I currently have for a newer one that plays more or less identically. I ended up with the Speed Pro because it is a bit lighter, with a slightly larger head, and still has the 18x20 string pattern that seems to suit me well. I think I play better with the Speed because it doesn't stress my shoulder out quite as much, and it does offer a bit more power off the strings. The Liquidmetal/Prestige line gives you tons of control, but not really much in terms of power off the strings - you have to generate the power through head speed - meaning like if you can handle it, and you've got the arm strength to accelerate the racket properly, and you contact the sweet spot properly, you're going to get every bit of what you put into it and then some in return.

@@TennCom Hello again Been doing some nerd-investigation on whether Djokovic used the *Head Liquidmetal Radical MP Tour* from 2004-25 and it seems like he did _not_ use this version. Or, at least vs Marat Safin at Australian Open 2005 he didn´t: there is a good close-up pic of him on Gtty Imgs holding his racquet after the match and where the black decals of ´Radical´ show against the red/orange paint of the frame, there should be the word ´Tour´ literally millimeters below the word ´Radical´. Here, it isn´t showing. This leads me to believe that he either: a) used the Liquidmetal Radical MP in standard stock form (highly unlikely?) or b) used the stock MP but with lead-tape under the bumper-guard (photos of this match show NO lead-tape at 3 or 9 o´clock) Given that the Hulk-like-hitting of Safin only used a Liquidmetal Prestige Mid at 345g, I can´t see teenage stickman-Djokovic using anything more than the stock Liquidmetal Radical MP?!

Spinweight - swingweight = twistweight using the Briffidi SW1
@vanodne
@vanodne Жыл бұрын
For maximum twist weight with minimum lead, put the tape on the outside of the frame. Distance outward has more of an effect than weight (it's radius squared in the formula). Also, how did you measure that 11 twist weight of your racquet??
@TennCom
@TennCom Жыл бұрын
spinweight - swingweight = twistweight. Briffidi say this typically underestimates twistweight by a little bit. Putting the lead on the outside is a good idea, but in practice the effect is minimal. The distance form the centre axis of the racquet is just too small for it to be easy to increase the twistweight without significant increases in weight.

I do what the Briffidi website says. Brian (the designer) says that the method usually underestimates TW. I've found that its slightly more inconsistent than measuring SW mainly because you are taking two measurements. I don't remember any vids where Racquet Tech says anything to its contrary. I can see him not liking that method when using a Babolat RDC, since the margin for error on those is 1-2 points, which would completely kill your accuracy for twistweight. Brian is also a mechanical engineer I think so I trust his understanding of these concepts to be correct.

I'm a fan of this frame. I haven't tried the Auxetic version, but reviews suggests its not much different from the 360+. Its got great power and its one of few racquets that works well for my forehand in stock form. I think it would be better as a 16x20 because the top cross is very low down which leads to a lot of premature breakage on the centre mains. I also found that this contributed to a bit of a launch string bed and the off centre forgiveness isn't amazing (its a 95 after all). At the time I was still using the 2015 VCORE 95 and I felt that my customized VCORE 95 was a more complete racquet due to the superior feel.

the "gimmick" on the racket might be some early semi-Auxetic enginering, as the fibers would thicken some places when stretched when having a wrap around like that. those will give a kind of frame snapback effect.

I managed to replicate this racquet setup on both a HEAD Ti.Radical MP and HEAD Liquidmetal Radical MP. What confused me about your copy of the Liquidmetal Radical was the strung specs - I have a Head leather grip and full ALU Power Rough 16 and my static weight to start with came in at *315g* ! (10g heavier than the Ti.Radical) Also, how do you calculate the twistweight if you´re suggesting TW database isn´t accurate (this, btw, I don´t think is particularly important - for one, high twistweight only benefits blocking or pushing the ball back into play and against really _big_ servers. It doesn´t reward accurate hitting or timing as such, either) Anyway, I got both racquets setup to the following: - 13g lead tape inside handle (3.5cm down) - 11/12g lead tape at 49cm x 11.5cm (inside the hoop) - 6g lead tape at 68.5cm (top of hoop) - 9g Head over grips (x2) - 3g Head av dampener at 38.5cm Final specs came in as follows: * 357.3g static weight * 369.2 swing weight * 32.85cm balance * 15.5kg cm2 twist weight (here, I am going by the ´official online stats´, regardless of whether QC is accurate and managed to get this to 15.9kgcm at one point, but it took the swingweight/balance down too much to be accurate as) Absolutely plays rock-solid. like if i had to play a best of 3 set, it would be too much for sure, but just casual hitting its no problem. the main difficulty for me with heavy racquets is serving more than anything

liquimetal or liquimedical ? 😂😂 lol buy used right? Head prolly has the mold and can weigh it inside the frame distributing the weight more evenly, or gradually to achieve the goal. I'm sure they could even tweak it for him. Still, they, Head, knows that weight is likely to hurt most non-high level players. I am not sure if they could use the lighter alloys inside it like a flexy stuffing..lol.

You should try modding either the ProKennex 7g or ProKennex Ki Q+5X Pro (aka the Top Banana 🍌💪). Both very similar rackets @ 27,5in / 69,9cm; 100in; 16x20. Absolutely wonderful frames just begging to be shortened and weighted up to Djokovic's specs.
