I just had open heart surgery, 17 days ago. Bicuspid aortic valve, born with it. Never had any symptoms. If I hadn’t lost 100 lbs last year, they wouldn’t have touched it. Never had any symptoms until 6 weeks ago, they thought it was pneumonia. Keto saved my life.

My husband had that surgery. It was hereditary condition, killed several of his relatives. When he complained in Iraq, they told him it was allergies. By the time they caught it, his aorta had thinned out so bad it was near rupturing. He did real well on the mechanical heart valve. He was a mechanic and if freaked him out. Said he fixed broken things and it was mechanical. I could hear it at night when he was sleeping. The surgery did well for him. VA caught the heart in 2006, but left him on a waiting list for a colonoscopy and he died of rectal cancer in 2014.

Wow amazing!! May i ask how you’re doing now (heart health wise?) my brother is convincing my dad (60 yrs, one stent in LAD 100% blockage no HA luckily - plavix 75mg everyday ) to try carnivore or at least keto for a month. I don’t feel 100% since I haven’t done my research and of course everything I read and see tells me otherwise for heart healthy diet. I don’t mind realizing I may be wrong for being skeptic, I just want accurate data, results and the best for my dad and his health

If you follow Dr. Berry's advice and read his book there is no need to see most physicians unless you break a bone or other trauma. Most will erroneously focus on TC and write an unnecessary and potentially dangerous Rx for a statin. There are DIY labs. Dr. Wm. Davis, a cardiologist, has online groups for info and has written excellent books. One needs to take their healthcare into their own hands and do research.

I have passed this story on several times to people I know but not on a platform like this. My dad was 65 at the time, never smoked, barely drank more than beer or two at one time, wasn’t overweight, played tennis a couple times a week and could run me into the ground. Got a call, they hauled him to the hospital,got there, talked to the Dr and the first thing he asked me was did I know he had diabetes. I said no he told me that my dad thought he had a problem but hadn’t talked to dr or had any test. The heart attack was caused by the diabetes, did enough damage that changed his life that day. I’m not a dr but diabetes is by far very important to control.

He has ordered me to stop all fat intake and eat nothing but whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. He says I am doing irreparable harm to my heart, and that my diet has caused my arrhythmia, even though all of my blood panels came back completely normal. I also did an echo cardiogram which showed absolutely no blockages. Now he wants to put me on blood thinners and statins, and I don't know what to tell him.

Good luck! Cutting down carbs to less than 20-25g per day will also help. Some people need to really restrict the carbs to get results (me being one of them). Do you also do intermittent fasting?

After 6 months on keto I had blood work done yesterday for my annual physical on Monday. My ldl rose from 108 to 131, but my triglycerides dropped from 85 a year ago to 56, and my HDL went up from 44 to 76. That means my triglyceride/HDL ratio is .74 and it is the best predictor of having diabetes or a heart attack. My overall cholesterol number is still only 216 which is just borderline high so my doctor can't bitch about it too much.
@davidluke1747
@davidluke1747 3 жыл бұрын
Please skip the “borderline high” part...cholesterol is simply an energy transport system-an absolutely necessary part of life -how do you feel and keeping triglycerides low (of course via low carbs high fat)👍

I had an appointment with my cardiologist about my CAC scoring test result. The PA told me, the CAC test results show that my heart is in great shape. She casually asked if I don’t take any statin for my cholesterol, I said, nope, I am not taking statins. She said, it’s okay. Your heart is clear, keep doing what you are doing. Just make sure monitor your cholesterol periodically. I said half year or one year I’ll do blood work. She agrees. So, my battle of taking no statins is over! I don’t need to take statins from my cardiologist’s office. A very sweet victory for me. Thanks to Dr Barry, Dr. Berg, Dr EkBerg and many other great doctors in KZfaq who work very hard to protect our health by educating us tirelessly. I am very grateful.

Looking for the link from JAMA article, thanks. Dr told me my ldl was high 143, but my triglycerides are normal, and my hdl was 93. Was trying to find out how to lower ldl on keto, and this info was mind blowing. So it turns out I'm in good health ! I have reversed diabetes to a1c 4.9, weigh 123 down from 180 and has been sustainable.

After six months of keto my LDL was 260 and my doctor was screaming STATINS at me. Even though i lost 20kg (obese to normal weight) and all my liver function tests were in the normal range for the first timr in 10 years. (GGT 120 -> 22). I asked my GP if I could get a CAC test and I got a score of ZERO. No calcium. HDL and Trig is good range. Fasting blood sugar and Hb1ac in normal range. She would not do an insulin test on me!

Dr Ken Berry, I was diagnosed with genetically inherit mixed dyslipidemia with triglycerides of over 600 and HDL below 40. So now I have been on keto for the last 4 years. My waist has shrunk from 36 to 31 slim. Really awesome and thank you for changing my life. However, my triglycerides are still very high at 300 and HDL is still very low around 42. What should I do more to reverse the problem? Thanks Dr. Berry. You have changed my life once. I am confident you will do it again the second time. Thanks again

I was diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes T2 in December 2020. It's now March 2021, and my A1C went from 11.2 to 6.2. My doctor still wants me to take 10 mg a day of glipizide and tried to convince me that glipizide and metformin, "do exactly the same thing but glipizide is stronger". I've done so much research... we went to a keto diet, and realized that meat affects my acid reflux. So we're essentially keto-pescatarian. My LDL is 190, and they want to put me on statins. They told me triglycerides mean nothing. I know they are full of it.... found a new doctor already, thank you for putting out these videos!

Hello, I have really seen improvements on Keto diet and like your content. So I want you to make some more :DD Therefore it would be great if you touch upon topics like food storage and cover questions like these : How to safely unfreeze meat ( in room temperature or refrigerator)? Is it fine to use plastic bags for storing foods? Is it necessary to use vacuum bags not to damage structure of meat? Which cookware is most appropriate to use? How freezer effects food? Can it damage it ? how to avoid it? and so on... Thank you for your bright ideas, research and all the support you provide, It really does a great deal of positive contribution to our health and well-being :)

This study demonstrates a clear dose response curve for the poison of carbohydrates. The initial risk of ingesting carbohydrates begins with elevated triglycerides, risk worsens as you develop metabolic syndrome, and risk is maximum when you are a full blown type two diabetic. I too am a physician, like Dr. Barry that is extremely frustrated with his colleagues that cannot see the relationship and are stuck in the failed hypothesis that heart disease is caused by cholesterol.

I'm type 2, hbp, obese, metabolic syndrome, smoked for 20 years, have high ldl. In the past year I e lost 65lbs, fully controlled my T2D with diet a1c is 5.3 it gets lower every check. My triglycerides are low normal, my hdl is up 20 but still low and my ldl is up, my BP is borderline now and dr thinks it will just get better. I can move and walk, and no more depression. My Dr wants to put me on ldl meds and I'm here to battle that. Even though my triglycerides went from high to low normal and my hdl is up. He wants to retest in 1 month which I think is too soon. I eat a meat based keto diet, I do use fake sugars and occasionally keto bread. I know I still need improvement but last year I was eating 5 pb and j sandwiches a day with a half gallon of milk and whatever else I wanted. I was doing a slow suicide, I knew this in my mind. Now I'm planning to hike and backpack and travel to new trails and live til I'm 90 while still hiking til the end. Ty for honesty so I can see the good things to come as I keep moving forward and how to get there. I do take my BP med I just see my parents on lipitor and they still struggle with the numbers, heart issues, and more meds it seems are added each year. ty for the honesty again.

Grandpa had none of these risk factors. Exercised daily, great labs, good BMI, ate as healthy as he could, kept his mind sharp, set a goal of living to at least 100. We all believed if there's anyone in the family that would make it to 100, it would be him. Found dead in the bathroom at 83, heart disease.

"ate as healthy as he could".....up until the low carb movement (people like Dr Berry) the diet that was considered to be "eating heathy" was close to the exact opposite of what is actually healthy. Also the resulting insulin resistance (not measured in standard labs) can occur decades before you officially become T2D or get concerning labs.
