Following Man United's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, the main story surrounding the club has been the exclusion of Jadon Sancho and the subsequent social media bust-up that's taken place between the player and Erik Ten Hag. But what's actually gone on between the two? And what can we learn about their relationship from similar stories that have followed Sancho's entire career.

Never heard anyone blaming Sancho for anything. In fact, if anything, he’s been given loads of time and fans have been patient with him. You want to know what a scapegoat feels like, talk to Harry Maguire….

@@ayanbeig4969 you find joy in saying shit, scapegoating is more like what Klopp did to Loris Karius, which is blaming a player for a bad match performance, of which he didn't, he only sincerely stated facts about Sancho to the media. and we know Sancho to be a very lazy player on the pitch already. that's not scapegoating, I think you need your dictionary

@@SuperiorRecaps scapegoating simply refers to outrightly blaming someone for a failure or a disaster. last time I checked ETH didn't blame him for the loss. I think it's fair for a manager to criticise his players. What Ten Hag did wasn't even throwing Sancho under the bus like it was suggested, but merely just answering the question honestly at the PC. He also didn't say Sancho was lazy/shit/etc. He only said that based on training he wasn't selected. This feels like a symptom of society nowadays where people feel that everything and everyone under the sun is out to get them. Look at Wan-Bissaka and how he was dropped from the team and responded so brilliantly without a word said.

ETH is absolutely right to discipline his players, but he is a fool for so easily airing these details in public. Sometimes the player is not giving enough on the training ground. Or perhaps another player who has been given few minutes has been especially good at training for a few weeks, and the manager wants to reward that player. Getting into the details is a poor choice. Let ambiguity protect the players' pride. All the players probably understand the truth, and that is sufficient. But ETH is very dutch. There are reasons why Klopp said that if LFC ever brought a camera into his dressing room (like some clubs have done with All Or Nothing television, etc.), he would immediately resign. I can promise you the man gives pointed negative feedback to his players, but he prefers to do that one one one in private, or in the dressing room during a game if the tactical situation demands it. He will never criticize a player in public.

Probably Ten Hag and some senior players have talked to Sancho serveral times before he was dropped from the squad for the Arsenal game. I have a hard time to belive that Ten Hag dropped him for one bad training session. And by the way; Sanchos reaction is unacceptable. Ten Hag only said that he want Sancho to perform better if he gonna play for Man United. Its not strange at all that the manger demand this from a player who is one of the best paid players in Man United.

From what I can gather from being well on the outside, whatever agents or entourage Sancho has in his ear "advising" him on career direction aren't helping him mature as a professional, and he's still a young player who needs real guidance and direction. Not making excuses for him -- I think there's plenty of behavior that he's showcased which is entirely unacceptable for a pro, but again he's a kid and has also had struggles I can sympathize with (mental health stuff, injury problems, social things, etc.). He has a lot to shoulder, and I think people attacking him or calling him weak ignores the complicated position he's in. It's easy to chalk it all up to blanket statements like "he's a prima-donna" or whatever, but I think his choice to air dirty laundry on social media earlier this week is more evidence towards him feeling backed into a corner and being inexperienced with how to handle it more than simply an attempt to stir up drama. Good intentions or not, he's certainly found himself in a hole now.

Dele Alli also springs to mind. There are big pressures on these young professionals even when they seem to "have it all" and are making the most of their talent (let alone the ones who throw it all away, Best? Taarabt?). Even with Alex Ferguson's guiding hand, some players thrived but others crashed and burned or went elsewhere.

Excellent analysis. JS should grow up. However, when so many Man U players seem to have a problem under ETH,: you do have to wonder if the manager and his back room staff are at fault too. ETH's first comment about Sancho's training should have been a private matter and was only going to cause a rift. Public comments about Maguire could be worded better too. I thought ETH handled the Ronaldo situation pretty well, but has he taken too much from that confrontation and since gotten too aggressive and less understanding of players psychological needs?

Sir Alex would know every last detail of a players thinking and demeanor before buying any big signings. Now it's all analytical, we're missing the human element that makes a top top player. Players' attitude is a more defining characteristic on if a player will succeed rather than a few numbers on a screen. Pogba, Greenwood, Sancho, Maguire and Anthony and some of the dross we've had with no fight the last few years prove this without doubt.

Fact his he suffered much criticism for not producing the Dortmund stats at United. No one that stepped in that role has been able to inspire the players the same way the likes of RM, Barca, City etc. There is also a problem with managers who misconstrued authority for dictatorship. There is a balance, you suffer for not respecting heirarchy but as a leader you will also fail if you do not earn the trust of your employees.

Sancho didn't even play against Arsenal and this is the story that is out instead of Ten Hag explaining his tactics and those injuries to us.

Storm in a teacup. He’s not the first player to be left out over a similar issue and he won’t be the last. Making it public on both sides was silly

Sancho is just another entitled english player. He had three months off mid season last year for his mental health while others were playing through injuries. Give me a break.

In the 23 season, whatever the fans say about how poor he was, he did score and assist huge goals in huge moments, and was frankly instrumental in man u getting 4th... Nobody has acknowledged this, he has had no thanks from the fans or the manager.. the other man u players on the other hand knew exactly how important he is, and thats why Hag's TV comments, and the insuing fxxk off caused a rifft in the dressing room ( Martinez and Casemiro both sympathized with Sancho). This was directly after scoring an absolute smasher against Arsenal in pre season. So l personally think his being pissed off understandable..

All this is fascinating but Ten Hag didn’t need too say anything to the press. Instead Ten Hag should have dragged Sancho into his office and tell him that. Keep your problems in house. That simple.

He could have protected him and lied, but ETH will lay down facts when he needs to. Leaving him out of the squad is a harsh punishment and suggests Sancho must have done something unprofessional to deserve it. If we want standards in this club then we also have to accept that some very talented players will get both barrels now and then, no free passes just because of your profile. Sancho could still save himself if he follows Rashfords example apologises and gets on with his football.

How can the coach be talking of not serious in training training training, those that are serious what are they doing that Man united is unable to control a match, give more than 4 passes in its opponent half. Meaning everyone including the coaches are not serious. It is clear, from all Manu matches, they are unable to take control of the play. What is actually wrong. So, if Sancho was the only one not serious in training, then those who were, what are they doing during matches? Nothing!

Never liked him, didnt think he would fit united. Weak minded in a team that's already full of weak minded players. Just weak, i can see one when i see one and self centered, bad behaviour. Lacks fighting spirit. I dont want him in united, find another club.

Does Man Utd turn these very rich young men into assholes or is their scouting so bad that they don't identify the problems before they sign? Either way, if you are a young player at Man Utd the chances are very high that you will piss away all that talent.

So Standards, that must mean that Antony is meeting the standards, an attacking midfielder who is praised for doing well defensively, but who therefore wont attack, we had a Dutch manager before, who, after the 5-3 defeat by LC fear got in and he stopped the attacking players from playing their game, Di Maria went from very good to "has he forgotten how to play football?" and now we have Antony, who in Holland was very good and at United a poor one trick pony and yet he has never been dropped, so he is playing exactly how ETH wants him to play, Sack ETH now then, its going to get worse, we have seen this before and that Dutch manager got sacked, this one will get sacked too.

He doesn't have that much options besides Antony since the departure of Greenwood, irks with Sancho and spells of injuries throughout the squad. If there was a better alternative to Antony, he'd be benched.
