At least Sony is learning from their mistakes; Spiderverse and the Mitchells were both incredible movies, and even Hotel Transylvania 3 and Angry Birds 2 were okay. We have Spiderverse 2 cooking in the oven, and even Hotel Transylvania 4 looks a bit promising. I never thought I'd be so excited to see what Sony does next.

I feel like when Sony makes a movie, its either really good, or really bad.

These guys came a LONG way. Direct to video sequels, live action Smurfs and Emoji Movie aside, these guys have always been making great experimental films. From the cartoony animation of Cloudy and Hotel T to the documentary style of Surf's Up, the team at Sony Animation always had some incredible talent on their hands. But now they're REALLY starting to go full throttle with it ever since Spider Verse. The Mitchell's vs The Machines just came out and it's already getting the same amount of acclaim Spider Verse is getting, and rightfully so. It's a genuinely amazing movie with incredible animation, characters, story, and hilarious jokes. Their other movies this year (Wish Dragon, Hotel Transformamia, Vivo) are also looking pretty good. If it weren't for that Sony hack and Emoji Movie, I don't think they would've had the exiting movies they have now, but because of those they're now becoming ambitious with what they want to do, making more experimental family films and even R RATED to PG-13 RATED movies! Two of which are directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Fixed, Black Knight). They're even starting to get a diverse cast of people that work on the movies themselves such as Maggie Kang, an actual Korean female director working on a movie about the music of her culture (KPOP Demon Hunters), and Matthew A Cherry, a black director creating a TV series on modern black culture (Young Love) and a movie called Tut. With all this being said, I think Sony Animation will inspire another golden age of animation that hopefully other studios will follow and I can't wait to see what happens next.

How does sony go from rock bottom with the emoji movie, to the top of the world with Into the Spider-Verse? Pretty odd

The main thing i hate about the Emoji Movie is that female character. She's quite literally a copy+paste of Wyldstyle/Lucy from the Lego Movie. Lucy is an amazing, flawed, shaded, confident, punk baddass character with a hidden sweet side who is pretty much a fan favourite, and is promptly the main POV of the sequel; (If you haven't seen The Lego Movie 2, i highly recommend it) She has so many hidden depths with a backstory shaded in mystery; she would quite literally be one of, if not the best character among this lego Cinematic universe (it's been confirmed that all of these films take place in the same reality) then sony was like "Hey she's cool let's just take her personality and put it on a face with legs."

And just look at them now! Spiderverse and now The Mitchells vs The Machines! Hopefully they keep it up

It’s funny looking back and now Sony Animation turned things around after Spiderverse. I mean Vivo, Wish Dragon and Mitchell’s vs. Machines? It’s amazing the 180 these guys did.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was Sony's best movie, IMO. I love the characters, the style was awesome, and it took a book with basically no plot, and turned it into a great movie, somehow.

I am not gonna lie, I loved “the smurfs”, it was self aware, the visuals were great, and actually funny. Just the first one, just the first one

Honestly, I really didn't like Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs. The story had many plot holes, most characters didn't manage to get that sparkle in me to make me actually interested in them they just....existed. It just didn't feel right the entire time. Then again, Spiderman: Into the spiderverse and Mitchells vs the Machines are masterpieces. Then again the emoji movie. Sony animations really has the mood swings of an angsty teen ah...
