There are three main ways to watch badminton, which is your favorite? Having watched both Lin Dan and Kento Momota play in person and also having watched their recordings extensively through the Nice Angle perspective, I gotta say those are the two ways I prefer.

Hi I recently discovered your in depth badminton videos and they're so informative and awesome. Regarding this video, the different points of view really changes the perspective of the game. I agree that the official top down view has its pro and cons. Whilst the nice angle one really showcases the intricate techniques such as the speed of footwork and the technique of hitting the "bird". In my opinion however there's nothing like watching the game live. You really appreciate the level intensity of the best players in the world. I had a delightful experience to go and watch the All England 2017 tournament. It really opened my eyes to see the difference in calibre. It motivated me to try and get to even 1% of their awesomeness. Watching a legendary player like Lee Chong Wei perform a jump smash is awe inspiring. Not only that, the first hand experience of seeing him build up the play, the speed of movement and the killer instinct to finish it off. You can only feel it when you are there in person. Anyways I appreciate this video and I look forward to learning more from the wonderful sport that is badminton. 🏸

Hey! First, thanks so much for your kind words! I do try to go into detail because I try to understand things deeply myself haha. I actually didn’t want to spend so much time on this video but the more I worked on it, the more I wanted to talk about 😂 I’m kind of sad that I’ll never see Lee Chong Wei compete live :( if only I could witness an epic battle between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan back in the day! And yup, I totally agree. We can only truly appreciate the level of the pros when we watch live

Thanks for your analysis. I have never gone to a professional badminton tournament. Going make it a point to do so. There was a lot to unpack in this video. I would like to experience it to gain my own perspectives. Lot of useful information. Thanks Jeffrey .

There were some hilarious moments in this video. The sigh at around 3:30 made me chuckle so hard. Good job on another great video 😊 It’d be fun to watch more videos of you in matches if you record them still

Also the smoothness of the viewing experience. Live performances are view at higher than 60fps. You can definitely see the real speed of the shot, which is very different from viewing it on the screen. (P.S. I watched Hong Kong Open live a few times)

Great video as always Jeffrey. I think all sports in general can be benefited from the interactive video, something like 360 degree view, with multiple camera that allows viewer switches to. The commentary can be laced on top of different timestamps, and viewers at home can still listen to Gill Clark's commentary while choose to watch at different angles.

in official, we cant see how steep the smashes or how deep the clears or how flat the drives. i was surprised watching lee yong dae's nice angle version. the drives are really fast and flat, very different compared with the official angle.

What do you think about the 2011 World Championships? I feel that the camera placement and the lighting made that very unique viewing experience. I wish current matches are also filmed like that for TV.

I thought that was my favorite world championships for sure. 2012 olympics which was in the same arena was good too. I like your taste haha

Not related to answering angle. But I always wonder how can Momota moves so fast! I mean, where did his eyes following/l looks at? Do you know?

I don’t know... but I’d love to find out haha! Momota has a really low center of gravity which could explain how he moves so fast

there is one very important point overlooked, BWF official video is usually lower in FPS, compare it to side line 60FPS video is such a big difference.

The camera angle used in the 750 French Open is just horrible. Worst angle ever. The court looks so elongated and you can barely see the players on the other side
