The California water crisis is 'in many ways...worse' than in Flint - here's what life is like for the 1 million+ people who lack access to clean drinking water.

In US news, NowThis News is reporting on the California water crisis, which some believe is worse in ways than the Flint water crisis. People in rural farm communities of California haven't had access to clean drinking water in over a decade. The water supply is contaminated by chemical fertilizers, animal manure, and leaky septic tanks. America's water crisis is a serious problem nation wide with many people not having water rights, explained as the right to access safe water. The California water crisis 2019 affects nearly 1 million people as seen in this short California water crisis documentary from Now This News. Contaminated water in America is a bigger problem than many realize.

People have been groomed to be selfish by American-style capitalist democracy. They sell 'socialism' as evil, and if someone else can't afford safe drinking water, well, that's not the state's problem, that's because they're lazy and not earning enough. Until the U.S. changes the mindset of hundreds of millions of people, nothing will change.

Yes, they show how wasteful it is to use a bottle of water to wash one nectarine. But we don't think of it as wasteful to let many gallons go down the drain when we let the tap run for several minutes at a time washing our food in the sink, brushing our teeth, or taking long showers. Both the water and energy needed to filter and transport that water are precious, but most of us take it for granted.

I did research in the early 2000’s on the pollution in the San Joaquin Valley, which was/is caused by the cattle industry. It is the most polluted air in the U.S. on a 24 hour cycle due to the release of methane gas (pollution which would clear out of the atmosphere significantly quicker than pollution from burning fossil fuels, if we were to reduce our addiction to cattle). I drove through the valley two weeks ago and it appeared and smelled worse than it did back twenty years ago. These are factory farms and they are retched places, definitely not sweet old Bessie grazing out in the open grassy field. Anyone who has ever driven Highway 5 knows what I’m writing about. We’ve got to change how we treat this planet and each other. Each of our choices collectively add up to a make big difference. I would never tell other people what to do. I can share my experience though. I stopped eating cows in the 90’s and eventually dairy products for the most part. I feel and look healthy and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. Even as a consumer, we can always consume less of something and enjoy something else better or different in it’s place. I was also a teacher. The dairy industry would come and bring a baby cow to our school and give the students information coloring packets hailing the virtues of eating dairy. This is a billion-dollar industry paid programming. We can change the program.

The main reason is also California has the biggest amounts of droughts, most of the water isn’t accessible. Some is brought from other areas outside of California I live in California myself, we usually don’t get water cause of droughts, and the water gets infected sometimes by animals. They’re several animals that were removed from water areas because the infected our water systems But they have returned and do commonly enter California water system If anything enters our main water system in some communities then people will be out of water for a long time That’s only a few reasons why California doesn’t get a lot of clean water

It's sad that things like this are becoming more and more of a reality for people... PLEASE world, wake up.

California’s geography/climate is similar to Spain’s coastal and inland plains, also similar to Israel and parts of the Mediterranean in general. (I’m from Fresno, Ca) Ca Ag is innovating great new irrigation technologies. Fresno has surface ponds around town to refill our aquifers. Nice habitat for waterfowl too. Other communities/farmers around the Valley have been coming up with all sorts of ingenious methods to save water. The problem is that Residents, Industry, Agriculture, and the EPA all want different things. Oh also most of the Valley’s notorious smog blows in from the Delta so we get the Bay areas Industrial Smog on top of that generated by our own farming. I still love CA even though it’s too expensive. Especially the valley, we are one of the most racially diverse areas anywhere. I should mention the air is much cleaner than some decades ago.

As soon as I heard "Privatize well's" I completely understand their frustration. There shouldn't be any privatized prisons, well's, or anything that is supposed to be run by the government for the county. Because all they want is money, then over charge for the labor.

The main issue with the water crisis is that people act like they living in the Great Plains where water is plentiful, and there is rich farmland everywhere except they live in a freaking desert that wasn’t designed to support large amounts of Farming and people.

I think that the soil moisture is also a problem. If soil moisture levels are too low, it is hard for clouds to form because there is less evaporation. Compost can help so rather than use chemical fertilizer. Chemical fertilizers can burn crops, change the PH of the soil, and other bad effects. This is just a thought and i am a noob at this. Good luck and i hope this drought ends soon.

Has no one thought of hooking up a water softener/filter to their faucets? There are filters that take out heavy metals, and filters that take out chemicals. Use multiple if you have to. Cheaper than buying bottles everyday

The practice of accessing primary water has been around for centuries. What early Greek philosophers like Aristotle and the Italian Leonardo DaVinci believed, and enlightened scientists working at well-known universities today are exploring, is that all water is created in the mantle of the earth and is available in limitless quantities, worldwide. Drilling for primary water looks similar to drilling for ground water. The main difference in accessing primary water is that it requires drilling into a geologic fissure or fault to release the primary water that has risen near the surface. Locating well sites for primary water requires special training and experience. There are countless primary water wells that have been functioning for decades all over California and around the world. Primary water advantages: • Provides excellent quality, clean, unspoiled water • Is fresh and not subject to pollution or surface radiation • Is created under pressure, so that it comes near the surface by itself, incurring less pumping costs • Never dries up • Unlike groundwater, is not subject to the effects of drought • Does not cause subsidence like some groundwater wells • Refills depleted groundwater supplies from below in some instances • Is plentiful and replenishable • Water can be localized to meet the water needs of individual communities • Horizontal drilling rigs can benefit fish and wildlife by refilling dried up streams and lakes. Primary water was used to refill dried up lakes such as Lake Elsinore (which went dry in the 1950s).

If the Ca Department of Water Resources (DWR) would stop dumping so much clean, stored contracted surface water in to the ocean, there would be more access to water for farms and cities.
