As a black man, I honestly grew up believing we were the most beautiful humans on Earth. I think this is why I've never been disappointed or upset that another race/culture is not interested in me/us. I just see it as me becoming more aware of the world but never been disheartened. And it never caused me to enjoy a place any less. As long of the food is good and people offer me respect (which I return).

As a brown person, I'm quite heartbroken over how a lot of people treat black people just because of their race. What if they set out to get revenge?? The black dude straight up said he doesn't date anyone but black, no what if needed. Everybody knows about black people doing it too. It's the same thing and who really cares? Let people fucking date who they want. And when you are going to a different country maybe don't have the expectation that people there just have been waiting for foreigners with a different culture to come around so that they can date them. You are never going to be happy if you think you are entitled to being loved by strangers. The tall girl prefers tall people, maybe korean guys prefer korean people too..? Like she said you need to keep your self respect and not define yourself by what others think. And you should also not define who you date by what others think. Look for someone that wants you. If they don't want you, you are not going to negotiate a relationship.

I do feel bad for people who are interested in having relationships with Koreans but I think its a bit weird to go to a country for the sole purpose of being in a relationship with the people from that country. Things like that have to happen naturally otherwise you'll be heartbroken or end up being partnered up with the wrong person for the wrong reasons.

Wow, great video! The audio is perfect, the images are beautiful. The interviewees were great too in their answers. I lived in Seoul with my family for about 6 years. I was in middle school/high school in the French school (LFS) so I wasn't really dating at the time. But for sure, I could tell there's this ideal for them, especially the women, to rather date a white man than a Black man. Which is fine if it's your preference, but most of the time it's deeper than that and it's rooted in ignorance, stereotypes etc like the interviewees had said. Great video!

My first ignorant experience was with a kid in Thailand who asked me why I don't shower? Insinuating if I did shower I wouldn't be black. What's even funnier, is that I told a buddy of mine and he wasn't surprised at all. Because some girl told him he needs to stop showering with hot water. 😂 We can't fix stupid. I loved living in South Korea while I was stationed there. Outside of the dating culture the people are mostly warm and welcoming especially in more rural parts. As you get closer to the city, you’ll definitely notice a shift in how you’re received. Most times it didn’t bother me and my daughter noticed it as well but that’s where we educate and teach self love 💯. I’d go back in a heartbeat but not to date. Note that All of the black women had a different experience than the black men. You’ve gotta be completely secure in yourself in order to experience a different culture because they Will stare but out of curiosity more than anything. We’re breaking stereotypes. A lot of the people there know that's what so many westerner's go over there for so they have a mindset already unfortunate for us anyway. I also think it’s important to go to places that actually value and support you and aren’t just friendly to a black person because they think they’re famous or athletic. I already support these countries when I buy products in the US where they may be manufactured, but I would never directly support or give money to a place that looks at someone as less than. I have dated a Korean guy here in the US once. It wasn't our culture that was the problem, he was just strange. I live in a highly Korean area in NJ and have a few Korean friends. Koreans are mostly dating each other. Its funny, this area is very diverse but we live in pockets. If Koreans live in a town with a lot of Koreans, its quite possible they do not interact with black people often. They are still hanging out with mostly other Asian people (All of Asia) and whites. They don't relate to black culture unless they have business that serve in Black areas (hair supply or nail salons come to mind). I would date Koreans again, but I just find the opportunity to meet one not so easy so it won't happen. For now I date a Ukrainian.

Let me share with you all my story, I’ve been in Korea and yes most people are racist as fuck compare to other places I’ve been, but eventually boils down to the person. I went there not trying to please or make others like me, I went there because I love their food, their culture and wanted to have fun. So guess what? That’s what I did and they loved me for it. I focused on having fun myself and didn’t care about all that racist stuff. And just like that I had Koreans trying to speak English and been polite to me. I dance with many Koreans girls, hook up with one of them whom I’m still friends with now days, drink with a bunch of random Korean dudes that like my vibe. I had a blast honestly. Play to your strength, I went to places where they played some salsa and reggaeton and you could dance in the floor, I didn’t bother with places where foreigners were not allowed, and so what? since I know how to salsa many Koreans loved me in those places. Again I went to those places because I wanted to salsa dance with Koreans, for my own pleasure, I wanted to experience it, NOT “THE OTHER WAY AROUND”, and let me tell you, Koreans mamacitas know how to salsa my friend. I had a wonderful time. Takeaway? just have confidence and have fun. Don’t go there criticizing, just know that some people are fucked up but so are we all lol, right? So just have fun and like any other country let the game come to you, dont act like a creep thinking you got game hehe.

I think that a lot of them would sleep with black people but not a relationship. A lot of this is down to the culture and a lot of parents from that generation would look down on it. It's a shame. Slow steps though. Things are changing gradually. *Edit - I live in the UK and the Asian girls do not rock with me at all except the ones born here. I feel like they are scared of me 😂😂 they LOVE the white guys though. A lot of this is to do with TV/films showing the heartthrob is a white guy.

its sad because historically some of the first interactions koreans had with black people was in war time when black american soldiers lived and existed in segregated units but fought side by side with white soldiers. and even if they werent segregated, they were always commanded/head by white officers. i always wondered if that shaped their view on black people in that all of the stereotypes and racist sentiments became filtered through a white american lens. of course colorism plays into it as well. but what should be mentioned is how strong american exceptionalism is as a belief in korea. that american exceptionalism ties in with american race relations. even if western ideals in general are prominent there, the influence of the u.s specifically has a very significant history.
