I'm just tired of housing costs skyrocketing and Utah being the crappiest place for regular people's wages to keep up with those costs.

Agreed. Housing is a good old fashioned supply / demand equation and we just need more homes. For those who live here and hate the high prices and also do not want to see more growth (building more homes), you can't see prices come down or even stop climbing unless we build many more homes

I know what you mean there but I see it as a trade off. There is not so much aggression among the people here and I can go out in my neighborhood at 2 AM walking the dog with little to no concern. I'm okay paying more for that.

As a native to Utah, I embrace these changes. I for one am fascinated on how much the Tooele Valley as a whole has grown. However, traffic is the main issue here. Going to SLC to Tooele is a slog. It's one way in, one way out.

I think that growing up instead of out will be a bad thing. One of the things that makes Utah unique is that most of us live side by side or just in 2 or 3 story apartments. I have always felt that population density increases dissatisfaction and results in more violent cities. When people get crammed in together things change a lot.

It’s true, that certain cities are stopping housing developments in order to stay affordable or small even cause housing developments to go elsewhere. I’m a civil engineer and honestly the biggest thing I worry about is transportation infrastructure in Utah. Like literal one highway (I15) to service all the cities in Utah means that if one person gets into a car crash.. we’re all late to work 😂

Being from big cities and now residing in Utah, I welcome all of the cool new things that are changing. Unfortunately/fortunately with change comes good and bad things, but as a friend of mine who's lived here all his life said "Utah is like the high school kid who never grew up" so change is a good thing, and since Utah has really never experienced growth like this before, it's time to "grow up".

The new buildings projects are embezzlement schemes theses developers are getting investigated on. The FDC SLC branch just got shut down cause it was so corrupted they just decided to have Denver ranch now responsible for SLC oversight. As the former FDCs employees are being indicted. Can't imagine the inner dealings to be dug up as the buildings sit vacant. Salt Lake is Salt lake. It's in Utah. We can't even put on the kind of Comic/pop culture conventions roster level of guests because were not that town. We have to stay in our lane. People don't care about stuff that is beyond their means in an economic downturn. People need to read the room and update their business software it seems.

I'm fine with Salt Lake City growing upward and changing, and having a night life. I do wish that housing prices weren't so high though, and also I've been job searching for over a year now and despite the hundreds of job applications I've sent out I've had no luck. And I have a bachelor's degree. Not saying that's a problem unique to Salt Lake City. I've also tried applying to other places in other states with also no luck. I'm just saying though. If I didn't have family, I'd be homeless right now.

Actually, according to my mother, Midvale born & bred, there was a law that no building in Salt Lake City was to be as tall as to block the view of the capital building from anywhere else in SLC. It changed sometime in the 80s. It could of been just a well known custom & not an actual law, but she wasn’t normally wrong on things!

Your very last point, the complete lack of accounting for that is the Key part of why homeless has grown so exponentially in growing or already big cities. They weren’t always huge, they didn’t always have those issues but what do we expect when we ignore such vital parts of human necessities/rights. Housing is a human right 🤷🏼‍♂️ doing nothing to make sure those that come after us can afford said housing helps Nobody. Love your video, brother 👏🏼👏🏼

Thank you SO much for the thoughtful comment. I agree with you on housing costs... and i do believe firmly that it is the single greatest threat to the State of Utah. If our children cannot afford to live here, what will happen? It's not good for the future of our economy, but more importantly, the fabric of our communities and our families

@@scottdsteeleI’m an 8th generation Utahn, love the state! I lived in Colorado for over 20 years as well…then back East for college. Utah to me was always a “best kept secret” one of the best places in the entire country…I especially realized this as I moved back in my early 20’s. Sure “we’re not close to California” as you mentioned….but let’s not hide the fact that it’s just a matter of time before we will be. California folks are coming here in droves. Our country’s open borders down south isn’t helping. We may not be Cali yet, but my feeling is that we sure as heck will be eventually. It’s just a matter of time before we get too populated, and politically speaking as states get overcrowded they start to be run like Cali…our state will get flipped to blue and then we become California with similar policy. I don’t want to believe it, and it may take a long time, but I have realized it’s inevitable. The “growing up” of the state is NOT a good thing.

The vast majority of LDS, will soon be leaving the state to relocate in Missouri, along with the church headquarters. At that time, the housing market here will absolutely collapse. With all these “outsiders” moving into Utah, the morality of the State is changing and will soon be inhospitable for the Saints, who will once again pack up and leave to build a new gathering place.

Average??? Uh, the economy is #1 and has been in the top 5 for the past what, decade? Average.. lmfao what an idiot.. tell UDOT to get their heads out of their ass and build highways that have zero red lights.. going back and tearing up roads that aren’t even a decade old is foolish, (bangerter highway, soon to be mt view corridor).. Utah should have followed suit like Vegas and Phoenix (1-215, I-315, I-415) meaning highways that circle the city.. (too late on the east side, but totally feasible west of mt view along oqqihor mountain range..) that is the salt lake valleys biggest chokepoint snd weakness is their local Highway system.. look at i15 near point of the mountain.. LEHI had to freeze new building because the infrastructure couldn’t handle the growth! That’s insane to think about, LEHI could have been the next centerpiece of the SL valley for high rises, would have been cool to see in my lifetime
