Harajuku in Tokyo is located just one station north of Shibuya, famous for Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park. The town is also known for Takeshita Street which has lots of shops of souvenirs and character goods. Crape is a must have street sweets in Harajuku. Harajuku is also at the entrance of Omotesando street, which has many foreign brands shops along the street. If you go into the north side of the Omotesando, you enter the area called Urahara. The streets are fulfilled with shops for fashion especially second hands clothing shop and shoe shops. Harajuku is a town with combination of Tokyo's traditional culture and modern culture.

Kenchan this is follow up to my previous messages. Spoke to JTB agent yesterday and I did mention Harajuku and said I was not certain about visiting Harajuku. I told her I might visit when it was not crowded but she said if I really wanted to see what Harajuku was all about I should go ahead and visit on a Sunday. Then I can say I was there to enjoy the "Sunday Experience". So I will visit on the Sunday using Harajuku as my "must visit' and work my other places around Harajuku. I will take your recommendation of starting at Meiji shrine and ending on Takeshita Street. By the way, I will be going to Wakayama and Kishi Train Station. My JTB agent just visited Wakayama in November and did a video segment for Soko Ga Japan. She said Wakayama is a hidden gem for visitors and I will spend 2 nights and 3 days there. She will provide me some places to visit. More planning to be done before May. Thank you for all the videos you share on your channel. 😻 🙏

Wtn san, I hope you are doing well! You are visiting in a great season to walk around Japan. Sounds like you met a kind and friendly JTB professional and I'm happy for you. Harajuku is busy all the time recently, but even more on Sundays. She is right, that the joy of Harajuku is the scene of people too.:) When I was a kid, I visited Kada, Tomogashima island from Wakayama. Must be nice in May. I'm excited to watch your adventure in Wakayama later. You are going to shoot with your GoPro?

@@tokyokenchan Well Harajuku here I come! 😻 It should be interesting to revisit Japan after all these years. Thank you for your recommendation to visit Tomogashima Island. Initially I was going to use my GoPro9. However, after careful analysis and thinking that the extended battery that I had secured to provide adequate battery life I still opted otherwise. So I will be using my new iPhone 14Pro as my "go to" camera and my Sony Rx100 vii as my backup. The iPhone 14Pro has a good "action mode" and should not require a gimbal. Also the battery life should be improved and I will have a Mag Safe charger to provide quick charge if needed. Both can fit on my Telesin neck mount and provide hands free recording with detachable remotes. I'll keep you updated on my plans. Thank You! 🙏

@@tokyokenchan While going into details on the surrounding area. I believe I can take that an early train to Shibuya Station and pay my respects to Hachiko. Walk to Harujuko Train Station visit the Meiji Shrine then go to Takeshita Street and spend the day there. I heard about Afuri Ramen and thought I would try to eat there and end up with crepe dessert before going back to hotel. I will be using your other video guides to take in Asakusa, Shinjuku and even look at your Day Trips out of Tokyo in addition to visit to Wakayama if time permits. 🙏

Thank you for your videos! Do you recommend visiting Harajuku in the evening? Or in the daytime? We are mostly going there to walk and people watch, maybe go in to some of the shops, and try some different food. If we go after dinner about 8pm, will the shops and eateries still be open? Thank you for the info!
@tokyokenchan

Thank you for watching. I think the most of the stores close around 8 and the streets get quiet after 7 or so in Harajuku. It's fun to walk around, but if you like to see people, afternoon in bright day time is better. It's safe so you can walk around late night too, but if you see more people in Shibuya after dark.
