Today I walk you through my food storage room. Over the past week or so I've watched on social media the hysteria as people are stocking up and clearing the shelves of the grocery store due to the coronavirus. There is peace that comes in not being part of the madness.
I do believe this will pass and when it does that will be a good time to make a plan and build up a reserve that can fit into your budget and space.
There is always going to be the unknown and we simply can not plan for every type of disaster but we can all do a little toward being self reliant. #dothebestyoucan

Hello Family Griffith! Thank you so much for everything you do and say! It is so good to watch your videos as characterwise you, Ms. Griffith, are really similar to my grandmum. Unfortunately she passed away in 2012 and I miss her dearly. You and my grandmum have/(had) really calming voices and listening to you tells me in times of sorrow that everything will be OK. Thank you so much for just being you! 😊

We learned from our mother too to do what you're doing. A friend of mine during the pandemic ran out of toilet paper. I offered to help him but he refused? I told him to buy extra when he found it but he's so stubborn. Oh well. I know you're a beautiful family. Thank you for sharing everything with everyone. G-d bless you and everyone. ❤

Although I am not LDS, I grew up knowing how to be self reliant and we always had stockpiles of basic goods, my mother canned fruits and veggies that were given to us or we picked, and learned how to live on less. It is a good way to live, to be prepared for whatever comes our way. Thank you for your videos, you are a good resource for many new homemakers.

Thank you so much for highlighting the difference between doomsday preppers and simply having enough food to last a couple of weeks. It might not be a natural disaster but as you said, even something like an unexpected job loss can be devastating for some families, especially those who live paycheck to paycheck. There is absolutely no need to have 5 years of toilet paper but a little stocked bathroom will go a long way. This also prevents panic buying/hoarding and reduces anxiety during times of crisis. Huge kudos to you Jennifer!

I thought it was nuts, until we started to need to prep here in Canada for COVID-19. Then I started to search KZfaq for LDS tips (I am not religious at all). Have to hand it to them, it's smart thing to do. My sister dated an LDS boy prior to his mission, she was also able to share some tips that his family passed onto her.

I really appreciate your videos! I've watched Ellie and Jared and also Bonnie since the beginning of their KZfaq time and I always admired their home keeping skills so much. It really nice to see and learn where they get it from and it's really helpful for people like me that doesn't have this sort of role model to teach how to clean or cook or prepare for things by budgeting and creating a stockpile. So thank you so much for creating these videos I'm sure a ton of people find them just as inspiring as I do!

I have a food storage (nothing compared to yours & people I've seen, they'd survive for years lol) mine is tiny, but when this pandemic hit us it meant that we didn't have to go out & no panic buying & we never waste food. I've done a 'top up' shop once & that was terrifying so I was so, so grateful of my supply. We bake cakes & bread & we have a calm home which I know is not the case for so many people. Take care & stay safe 💗

Oh Jennifer! you are so great at encouraging everyone. I'll tell you right now that we, me and my sisters and even brother were not taught to have this mind set of having enough on hand. we could have afforded to, but my sweet Mom was a live in the moment kind of woman. Of course now she has lots of food but that's a good thing. I have shared this video with many women because I don't think there is enough of this mindset. I'm going to clear some spaces for a different kind of storage now! and also I loved the fact that you encouraged us to have enough to help out others. That is what we are taught to do! Thanks for a great video!

I know this is a few years ago, but I had to watch and see your storage room! We moved to the PNW and we miss our storage room that we had in Utah so much. It looks like yours. 😊 It was cold in the winter and cool in the summer. Perfect for food storage! We use half our walk-in closet to store our wheat, beans, lentils, olive oil and sugar, now. Our son's bed frame is also made of buckets of wheat! We just put a board on top of the bucket lids, a non slip layer like gets used in cupboards, and a cloth to protect the matress from the board. The cloth also doubles as a bed skirt and covers the buckets on the sides. 😅 Thanks for showing your storage room!

I think you are very comforting as well. I’m not Mormon, but I grew up with girls/families that were, and they always kept extras on hand, to be self-sufficient. They could also help out others. I try to keep my pantry the same. Not nearly as well as you with flour/wheat, etc... but it has come in handy helping out my sister. Hi Jennifer! I am so glad you have comments turned on!!! Thank you for sharing your storage, tip & tricks and positive words. It means a lot. I have always admired how the LDS church educates and takes care of it's members. Over the last few yours I have watched Jordan Paige and Kimmy from She's in Her Apron. Both are LDS members and they have always recommended building a food storage a little at a time for the exact reasons you described. I wish I had followed their advice more. It's never too late though! I'm now going to slowly build a stockpile of food and essentials as I see sales.

I learned to do this when I lived in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as a single mother. Living in the rural areas we were the last to get plowed out during a heavy snowstorm. Thankfully it didn't happen to often, but it did teach me to prepare for these times. I now live downstate and my family and friends would laugh at me for my food storage. Today, they are thanking me as we deal with the panic of today's virus. Thank you for posting this! This is very important for everyone to know. If everyone used your advice, we would not have shortages in the stores like we are seeing today! I love your videos and you and your family are amazing! Keep up the great work!

I like having some extra things on hand too. Yes, if we’re in a pickle, get snowed in or, heaven forbid, we have another pandemic and the grocery store shelves are a bit bare we can all eat whatever is available if hungry enough. But, it’s nice to have some variety in your diet if it’s possible. It’s also nice to have some chocolate chips, vanilla, brown sugar, or maybe just a couple extra brownie mixes on hand too. 😊 That’s very nice. It’s also great to be able to share with others.

Can I just say I was never so glued to a video as much as I just did, I live in Ireland in a small two bedroom house with a garage made into the house, the garage has tools and a work bench my chainsaw and a push bike and lots more, we are both 60 years of age and just passed 40 years been married, we like yourselves are going through the Coronavirus 19, never again will I waste good storage space, I am now starting to clear the garage out and make shelves, so I can buy that little extra each week to stock against what just happened, people panic buying and not much left for me and my wife Jean. I will start this from tomorrow thanks to watching your video thank you so much, you made me open up my eyes.

Hi Jimmy. I'm in Co. Meath! Awful seeing what the virus is doing!! I always had extra in my utility room - buying a few extra bits on each shop so lucky that i have quite a bit now (i have 3 children aged 2, 5, 17 so always wanted to have enough to feed them) Stay safe and be very careful going out!!

I would like to say on behalf of those panic buying....I’m sorry for what it’s done to you. This is who they are harming. Those who are older, or can’t afford to stockpile now, health workers who can’t get out to buy because they’re working, those on government assistance, etc. Their selfishness has been astounding. I wish I could be there to help you all out ❤️❤️

We live in a hurricane prone area so every summer for several years we have made sure to stock up on certain items. We carry that idea through the year so we do have a pantry of goods built up now. And when we use an item from our stockpile, we replenish. I guess I kind of consider myself to be a bit of a "prepper" because I think it's a very wise idea to prepare for whatever might come. I even have some freeze-dried foods on hand. It certainly doesn't hurt. Thank you for sharing your ideas

It is comforting to know you can cover your family’s basic needs. I was able to walk friends through near-empty grocery stores and show them how to use little make filling meals. I grew up in a farming community, so we joke that a little flour, salt, and shortening is all you need. Truly, I pray that when things get better, we can focus on teaching families how-and -what to stock in their “food rooms”. (That is what we call ours.) Blessings!
