Hey guys, I need help! My baby will be born in California, I am not sure what is mandatory for me to bring in for the baby, btw, I will be having a c-section (2-day stay). Should I bring toiletries for the baby? Baby blankets? Do they bath my baby? I am very lost packing so if anyone knows anything helpful, pls, let me know =)

hi! you don't need to bring toiletries for the baby, you're not even supposed to give babies a full bath until their umbilical cord falls out, the hospital will give them their first bath which is really a wipe down and maybe wash their hair. you can take a baby blanket but babies aren't supposed to sleep with blankets anyway, if anything take a swaddle blanket if you want but the hospital will provide them. they usually give you diapers too, and extra to take home, as well as baby wipes. You can take your own if you have a preference of a certain brand. Really all that baby needs is a going home outfit, car seat, any props you want to take for pictures. Im taking baby nail clippers but thats only cause my first born had extremely long nails and was scratching me when breastfeeding. You can also take a pacifier if you're going to use that, and a white noise machine if you're going to use that. nurses will be coming in every hour to check on you and baby so white noise might make it so baby doesn't wake up too often.

your best bet is to call the labor and delivery unit and see what exactly they provide and they can also give you suggestions on what to take with you! goodluck and congrats on your baby!

In California in most hospitals you don't need to bring anything except for your cell phone, cell phone charger, your going home outfit, your baby's going home outfit, blanket, and car seat, and anything that will help comfort you during and after your delivery. They pretty much have everything at the hospital for the baby and you. You are free to call and ask questions and even schedule a tour at the Labor & Delivery department to ask your questions in person. I hope you enjoy the coming of your little one!! :)

Just watching this now, pregnant with my 5th and am 35 weeks. You are correct, every mom will know what she needs, some don’t need some stuff, but others might. It’s ok to bring stuff that will bring you comfort. ❤

Omg the postpartum sweats are definitely a thing I didn't know about when I delivered my baby a few yrs ago! I developed a fever while in labour and showed signs of sepsis so when the first time I woke up covered in sweat, and shivering, a few hours postpartum, I called the nurses thinking there was something wrong with me 😅

Bring what you feel you need! I can't believe there is mom shaming going on! To each their own for comfort and to be specific to what you need for labor. Better to have too much than to not have what you need or want to be comfortable. We are expecting November 18 but baby boy thinks he's coming early. Congratulations on your new little one!

When showering at hospital if you weak or dizzy you can ask for a shower chair usually, they have them as standard in my hospital and boy did I need it!

Hey, at least you brought SOMETHING...lol I went in for a routine appt and they sent me to L&D from my appt an hour and 15 minutes away from home...so I totally get packing what is best for you! I had bag mostly packed at home but I really did not feel prepared at all! I love seeing what people pack because it is very helpful!

I’m about to have my second baby. I’m bringing enough stuff to fit in the white backpack and a purse. I wouldn’t consider this minimal, but like you said.. everyones experience is different.

Gearing up for number 3 and I’m a pretty minimal packer, but my advice to anyone is to bring whatever makes you comfortable. I’ve had a August birth and an October, now having a December so I’m bringing a warm robe, a cooler robe and two night gowns. For comfort I feel best in my own clothes, but I’m curious if I’ll be hot from hormones or cold because it’s winter and the hospital is cold. I do love their socks and wear them regularly 😂 but I do suggest some kind of slide that’s waterproof, my water broke there and just leaked all night so I didn’t wear the socks until afterward

Everyone needs their own things too. I had preeclampsia in both pregnancies and ended up staying in hospital 2 days before having both babies. So I was very unprepared and wish I had taken more changes of clothes, entertainment, eye mask and ear plugs. I was exhausted before going into labour from lack of sleep. I learned the second time round and will do the same this third time.

I conceived my little one 11 weeks early, so I never prepared any hospital bag and wondered how unnecessary some of the recommendations would get. That being said, in the end I got my partner to bring most of your recommended items or received them by the hospital staff! I can confirm, that absolutely all* of them make so much sense to me! (* I had a very early c-section, so I never experienced any tough contractions, thus, did not need the after drops.)

I love this video! I’ll add, I prefer shower shoes over house slippers because with my first, I bled down my leg and ruined my socks so i stopped bringing anything soft for below the waist. And, of course you’d reuse your labor gown! You know it’s only had your bodily fluids on it. Why would anyone question that?!

I brought the boppy too and it was AMAZING during labor. The nurses had to rotate me like a rotisserie to help dialate me faster plus the epidural only worked on one side at first and baby's heartbeat kept dropping if I laid in a specific position so the boppy came to the rescue. Weird right? Hahaha

@@Suebearish just used it to prop my body up like you would a pillow. My baby's heart would drop if I went too over which ever way so the hospital pillows were a bit too big to wedge under me for his heartbeat to remain stable so the boppy came in handy.

I’m pregnant with my first and having a girl ❤ I’m 30 weeks on Saturday I’m prob just going to bring cloths and toothpaste and toothbrush and deodorant and shampoo and conditioner and baby’s outfit That’s it cause a lot of people been telling me I don’t need to bring a bunch of stuff

Might be weird, but I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with my first and have already started using the earth mama nipple cream because I've been waking up with dry, cracked nips 😅 tmi sorry. I've also already started wearing nursing bras because they're the only comfortable bra for me right now, and I haven't noticed any staining. Idk if already having a milk supply affects that or not 🤷‍♀️ and to be honest, I hate the smell. That's the only complaint I have, lol.

When I was little my mom used to scratch my hand with her fingernail when I got shots. Which is the same concept of the combs. It works I think.

Yes I wish I would have brought a blanket 1 for comfort and 2 because they kept having to give me these thin sheets to cover up and I was stilllll cold 🥶

@@MadelieneVanMarter HONESTLY and coming down off the anesthesia made me extremely itchy like when we left the hospital and went home I had scratches all over my body because I was so itchy and uncomfortable

Not sure if you know this trick but if you do bleed on your robe use peroxide it will remove it. Just try to get to it as soon as possible once it stains so it's easier to get out. Congratulations

I had surgery when my daughter was 6 months old so I had to pump and save and the lactation consultant gave me a Styrofoam cooler and ice packs and my nurses helped keep the ice packs cold and gave me extra ice so maybe ask if your hospital will help you with that.

Keep nursing even if you aren’t full! I always thought I didn’t produce enough and I’d supplement. That was my downfall! Baby’s grow so fast and need to nurse even when you’re “empty” it’s their way of telling your body to produce more!
