Hi Romee, I recently gave birth in September in Austria and I’m sure the hospitals are similar. My recommendations: 1. I wouldn’t recommend to wear a white outfit home although it looks very comfortable. Imagine the worst period of your life, that’s what you will have after birth. It will be a lot of blood.. so a dark color would be better. 2. If you plan to sleep at the hospital, I recommend to bring a long charging chord, at least 3 meters so you don’t have to get up to charge your phone. Someone recommended this to me and it was extremely helpful. 3. I would bring a second pair of socks, blood and other bodily fluid get on everything during labor so just in case. Bring another pair of socks. 4. I was sweating like crazy for 6 weeks after labor, having hot flashes so if you plan on sleeping at the hospital. Bring multiple sleeping outfits because you might sweat like crazy and will want to change your clothes 5. Bring face wipes, you might not have the strength to get up and wash your face. I hope this helps!

1. Consider getting a coming home outfit that is dark. A. Postpartum, fluids of all kinds, will be making their way out of you. Less chance of obvious leaks and stains. B. You will, most likely, be wearing some sort of HUGE feminine protection. These are easily seen in light colors. 2. Have several receiving blankets. Babies vomit, poop and pee all over everything! You will want clean blankets. 3. The blanket with the hood is a bath blanket. Used after a baby bath, to swaddle them, dry them and keep them warm. 4. Birth Plan: Try not to worry too much about it. Baby is coming no matter how well you plan. 5. Blankets for you are a good idea. Keep in mind, there will be all kinds of fluids, and stuff in the process. Make sure it can be washed easily. 6. Postpartum "down there care". There are numbing sprays and gels to help with pain. Also some cleansing soaps for your bottle after ward. Take baby wipes for you too. Pat dry. Don't wipe. 7. Take nipple cream for nursing. Can ease up pain when you first start feeding. 8. Breast feeding. Put a plain band on your ring finger. When you feed your baby, move the ring to remind you which breast to start with, for next feeding. So, if you finish nursing her on the left breast, move the ring to the right hand, to remind you to start feeding from the right breast, next time you feed her. Same the other way. Helps get even feeding and reduce engorgement. 9. Have extra, comfortable, feminine protection. What YOU like. No tampons though. Only pads. 10. You are going to do great. Every pregnancy, labor, and delivery is different. Everytime. Enjoy the experience. Love the snacks! I'm excited for you and Laurence. ❤❤❤❤🌸🌸🍼🍼🍼

I like all that you are saying. Except the birth plan. The birth plan is actually really important. It's not that you are planning out your birth. But by making the plan, you are looking into all your options. All that is available out there. For when it's going as you want. And for when its not going as you want. For example: If you are making a serious birth plan, you are doing research. And you will read about the benefits of delayed cord clamping. The benefits of giving birth in an upright position. etc etc. But the plan is also there for when it's not going as everyone would like. For example: You can add that you want to breastfeed. And that if you are seperated with baby for the first few hours, that you want baby to be with dad at all times. And that you dont want them to give formula to baby if you are not there. The plan is not there so you can create a perfect birth. A perfect birth isnt about having the perfect birth. But having a birth that make you feel comfortable, heard, and understood. Instead of traumatized. The plan is there so that you are going into labor educated. It takes a village to raise a child. And years and years back, people learned about birth from "their village" their moms, their aunts, etc. Now a days everyone just "trusts the doctor" And way too many people end up being scarred for life. People have no actual clue anymore about how birth works.

Romee, first of all congratulations! I am a Labor and Delivery nurse in the U.S. and the Perinatal Eduction Nurse. I think that most of the items in your bag are appropriate for your personal needs. I do want you to consider a few things. 1. Bedding: if you like your pillow case and blanket, I would reconsider taking them with you. Typically, we ask to bring items that you can easily throw away after done with a hospital stay. Especially now that COVID is still an issue. The last thing you need is to bring hospital germs home. 2. Pillow: most of my patients find hospital pillows very uncomfortable. I would buy a pillow that you can also discard after hospital stay. 3. Sucks: two pair would be ideal in case if they get soiled during labor or walking. Also should be a throw away item. Again, hospital’s floors. 4. Baby Go-Home outfit: I know that you packed 56, I would also grab one for 50-52. 5. I like that you got a lip balm - it is a must. 6.Camelback water bottle: nice! One word of caution, pay attention to the bottle’s straw and straw tip. Camelback (the type that you have) are known for growing mold in the silicon tip of the straw. 7. Snacks: early labor snack and water are fine; in active labor, typically, you won’t feel like eating or we won’t let you. It will depends on the baby response to contractions. But I am sure that it will be eaten after. 8. Do you have any breast care items: nipple cream and pads. You will be breastfeeding for the first time, it can be rather uncomfortable. 9. Peri care: bottles, pads and underwear should be provided. Good luck!

Awesome advice
@Angela-lo5bw3 жыл бұрын
"We wont let you eat" Dear lord.... People can eat if they want too. When they want too. Even in labor. Not eating in labor is like running a marathon without eating. This is exactly what is wrong with the maternal healthcare system. You can't make people do stuff. You cant forbid people to eat, or do whatever the heck they want. It's their body, their baby. As a healthcare provider, you should be there to assist, consult, and help when needed. (not tell people what to do. And tell people no. They are boss!!) Telling a full grown adult that they are "not allowed to eat" is not your job.

That's only because they are making woman birth in a way that's not harmonious with the body. I had a hospital birth with no epidural and a natural home birth and let me tell you it was night and day of a difference. Being forced to push with each contraction VS breathing through the contractions and letting the body push on its on which IT DOES,makes the pain go from 1000 to 50 i kid you not. At home water birth was the best decision i have made with birthing no screaming no crying of pain .
@oldhollywoodangels3 жыл бұрын
@@ileanareyes3973 also arent u supposed to be in a crouching position instead of being laid down? Ive never had kids but the idea of laying down and pushing seems illogical since it would seem much easier and better for ur body to be sitting/crouching and letting ur body push
@Angela-lo5bw3 жыл бұрын
@@oldhollywoodangels laying on your back is the absolute worst position to give birth in. It goes AGAINST gravity. And it makes for 30% less room. The only reason to birth on your back, is easy access for medical professionals. But if you have a normal birth, with no complications. There is no reason for medical professionals to even be in that area.

Hey Romee!! I’m 5 weeks postpartum now, and just wanted to share some things I wish I knew, hopefully useful to you: 1-wear the gown from the hospital during labor, and save your pretty gown for recovery. Let them do the laundry and have your gown once you feel like freshening up! 2- with hormones, you’ll be very warm so you might not want those socks! If you do, they have hospital socks for when you want to get up. 3- the disposable underwear is okay, but get depends (adult diapers). Especially for when your water breaks because you’ll keep having... (sorry for the graphic details...) gushes of amniotic fluid basically until after baby is born! The adult diapers are sturdy and you don’t have to mess around with putting a pad in. I just stopped wearing them last week. Plus, You won’t ruin your underwear! Hope this helps, and sending you all the love and support! I’m so excited for you and Laurens!

Haha, I know the adult diaper thing sounds ridiculous but I should have used them! TMI, but I bought large pads for when my water broke and even though I was ready to walk out the door, I lingered at home for 30 minutes because I kept going to the bathroom to change them...it was too much! Your water breaking is a crazy experience of childbirth all on its own!

I gave birth a month ago and here are a few things I found useful: 1. Nipple cream. Do not forget the nipple cream as your nipples will get so sore from baby sucking. 2. Multiple sets of baby clothes. The diapers sometime leak and they vomit etc, so take a few options for changing. 3. Pack also the smallest baby clothes you have (not just the cutest). The baby might be really small and then the clothes you bring are way too big. Even my smallest ones were too big at first...couldn´t even wear the nice ones I brought for leaving. 4. Depending on how long you have to stay in the hospidal (I had three days), bring changing clothes or extra t-shirts for yourself. You will sweat, bleed, baby vomits etc, so it´s good to have a clean option. 5. The pads you wear in the first days are really huge, would be good to have loose fitting (and possibly dark) clothes for leaving the hospidal. Hope you have a good birth experience and can´t wait to hear about it afterwards (if you choose to share it). Cheers!
@nergizkilinc12083 жыл бұрын
Oh I think you have to add a couple reaaaly important things as well. 1) sometimes you don't have milk after birth and the baby starts to lose weight. It's always good to bring a newborn baby formula just in case because the hospital May not provide you or you May not trust the brand they provide. 2) breast pump in case the baby refuse to get the milk from breast. You will pump the milk and still be able to give it to her. 3) newborn baby diapers. 4) a couple more clothes for the baby because it gets dirty due to blood etc., 5) A baby pants without integrated socks because sometimes doctors get blood from feet of the baby and it is easier to open feet when she don't wear jumpsuit. 6) socks for the baby because newborn babies' feet get so cold in the hospital and they get sick easily. Even if she is gonna wear jumpsuit you should still have her worn socks underneath the jumpsuit. 7) A seperate baby hat for the hospital
@ellen52763 жыл бұрын
I would (kindly!) like to disagree with this - the body produces tiny amounts of colostrum in the first days before the milk comes in, and this is all the baby needs - it is much healthier for their stomachs. Any weight lost is gained back within 2-3 weeks. The baby will not refuse the breast if the technique is correct and if nothing else is offered.

I know everyone is trying to give you advice as you reach the big day. A couple of things I wish people would have told me: 1. Don't bother bringing postpartum products, except the underwear you prefer, because the hospital provides everything. 2. You don't need any wipes. The nurses will tell you not to use them until the baby is older. You will be provided with cloth wipes that you wet with warm water. 3. Bring your own nursing pillow. It will save your life! It makes nursing more comfortable and easier to transition when you arrive home without the hospital staff assistance. 4. Keep your positive energy and calmness and it will continue into your labor. 5. If quick breaths don't work for you when it comes to pushing, no worries. They didn't work for me at all. I remained with deep calm steady breaths and they worked great. The quick ones made me hyperventilate and panic. 6. No worries not having a doula present. Your body will know what to do. I was really disappointed not to be able to attend any parenting classes or have a lactation consultant do to Covid, but I discovered Bridget Teyler here on KZfaq and she saved me. I learned the basics of what I needed to know and the rest worked out. 7. Congrats on joining motherhood! You will do great! It is a wonderful amazing thing. Sending you positive thoughts and can't wait to see pictures of her. 💕

It's a blessing either way. Enjoy every moment. It's a beautiful thing seeing your baby for the first time. Congrats to you both. ❤❤❤❤🥰

I brought something visually calming that I could focus on while in labour. I brought a globe that changed colours and it was very soothing to look at. The coconut water is good idea...i drank gatorade, but now wished that I knew about the coconut water back then. Anyway...something soothing to look at while in labour!!

This was my resumee from hospital: during Labor: -comfy shoes to walk around (didnt like laying down with Labor much) - a wide soft band to hold these heartbeat thingies. The beltlike ones felt uncomfortoble during Labor - some joggers i can easily put on in case i wanted to walk outside - Meditation/instrumental Musik for relaxing/breathing - socks -snacks -tons of water (i was soooo thirsty) For birth: -husband for general support -trust in myself, that I can do it -Short nails -Hairclip After birth: - snacks: fruit etc -alcoholfree wheatbeer for lactacion and to get back some energy fast - nipplecream -comfy big bathrobe - big comfy underwear - husband to take care of all the beaurocracy and baby examines -dry shampoo AT home: -Someone that bring you some proper cooked meals and chicken broth to recover from birth -some peace and quiet to actually sleep and recover from birth, sleepdeprivation and breastfeeding all the friggin time.

I think it's truly inspiring to see you and Laurens support each other over the years. I can't imagine the struggles you must've gone through especially in the fashion industry and all the pressure it puts on models! I just started watching your vlogs and it really is sweet to see :)

You are so incredibly prepared, it's wonderful. One thing I loved that my mom and dad did was buy me a locket or necklace of your choosing that they brought to the hospital when I was born. I've had it ever since, 20 years and it's still a beautiful keepsake

So excited! 🤩 And yes, the peri-bottle is very important. I hope you have more than one of those ice packs. The little rabbit is cute! Your pregnancy has been a highlight of my year even though we don't know each other. Do not hesitate to ask for any kind of help at any time that you need it, even if it feels like you "should" know how to do something. Sleep every chance you get and don't do any house work for the first two weeks. Sending lots of love and best wishes! You are already an amazing mom. ❤️
