Just a tip, the Laowa 100mm made for Sony FE mount weighs 650g. That is about what the Laowa 60mm and a cheap metal adapter weighs when put together. The 100 seems to stick out a lot more though so it will not feel the same of course. I have been using the 60mm with my a5100 for a couple of years now. Thanks for the idea of the flash diffuser that sits at the end of the lens. I use it with my internal flash... The other lens I use is the Sony 30mm f3.5 macro. I use that one almost exclusively in AF. The touch to shutter is a whole different way to macro. Where I live we have wind all the time, every flower and leaf are constantly moving along with whatever insects have climbed aboard. Touch to shutter lets me pick a spot I want sharp and then the camera takes the picture as soon as the image is sharp, which is instant to almost instant, or it fails and takes no picture on a rare occasions when the subject is just moving too much...

I like the shape of that 25mm laowa lens, its how all macro lenses should be, narrow at the front so you can properly get to your subject and shoot at a natural angle out in the field rather than a staged shot indoors. Your camera cabinet gets full old man approval from me 🤗. A nice vid on its contents would be rather splendid too 😎👍.

@adamaj74 4 жыл бұрын
Great video, thanks for making it! For macro, I used to use my full frame Nikon D800, but then I bought a Fujifilm X-T3 (mainly for video). It got me thinking. For macro shallow dof doesn't really matter because you'll be shooting stopped down all the time. Low light performance doesn't really matter because you'll either have a lot of natural light or be using a flash. Same goes for dynamic range. Not that the X-T3 is bad in these areas. Also, for macro, by using a crop sensor it turns that 65mm Laowa lens into a 100mm (97.5) lens and I'm putting 26.1 MP on the subject whereas on my D800, even though it has 36 MP, if I put it in dx mode I only have 16 MP. The Sony A7 III is 10 MP in dx mode. Add to that how so very light the little Fuji setup is and I no longer lug my huge, heavy D800 and 105 macro lens around, lol. I did tests with both cameras and if I crop in on the D800 to match the Fuji, the Fuji image if much better. Great images, btw! Love the lighting you came up with. I think I'll get one of those diffusers! Cheers!

@@MicaelWidell And with the X-T4 just releasing - well they say they're shipping May 11, but some people have already got theirs - you may be able to get a heck of a deal on an X-T3. Unless of course you want the X-T4, but good luck finding one, lol. I've decided to wait and not upgrade yet, well, by me I mean my wife, haha.

Hello Micael, many thanks for your Videos. I'm looking for a Macro Lens and you're Right with the Magnification. 1:1 is good but 1:2 etc are much more fun and intressting in my opinion. But can i reach a Magnification of 1:2 with a Sony 90mm 1:1 and an Extension tube?? Is this possible to get the same magnification like the laowa 60mm for expample. And my second question is what do you think about the nissin mf18 ringlight.? Many thanks and greetings from germany:)
@MicaelWidell
@MicaelWidell 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you would need to add around 9 cm of extension tubes to get to 2x, so the lens would be very very long and front heavy. Not recommended. Better than to buy a raynox 250 to put in front of the lens.

Based on your recommendation for diffuser, I found something really similar from a local camera shop. The brand-name on mine is "Falcon Eyes", but it looks almost identical! I may be a little bit smaller perhaps? But I don't know. It works well for diffusing the light, that is really helpful! Thanks for the tip. I find however that it makes holding and focusing the lens more inconvenient (Laowa 65mm for APS-C). How do you deal with that when holding the camera and needing to adjust focus without losing the framing and the subject?

May i ask - why not the OSS sony 90mm? i understand the 60 (2:1 too) gives more of a background story, but as i hear when using apsc lenses on FF cameras - the pixels arent the same.
@MicaelWidell
@MicaelWidell 4 жыл бұрын
For me it is a dealbreaker with only 1x magnification, a lot of the fun happens at 2x where you can get an insect to cover most of the frame. Also, the OSS 90mm is very expensive compared to the lenses I sugges in this video. But other than that it is a great lens, especially if you need autofocus. In general you shouldn't use APS-C lenses on full frame cameras and expect good results, but the Laowa 60mm is an exception to that rule if you ask me.

To find it, I'll leave a URL link in reply as sometimes YT auto censors all the link format comments, but if that doesn't show up, please copy the below line and use it in the search box of YT, you will see it as the first or second choice in a search result: 👉👉 SUPER MACRO WORLD in 8K ULTRA HD 👈👈 Again thanks a lot for all the good things you have provided the community, over many many years, and long lives.

I don't use the X3000 that much anymore. I use mostly a DJI Pocket 2 for outdoor video - it is super compact and has a gimbal providing very very smooth footage. The X3000 can be a bit shaky. AS for the camera setup I have no idea. Probably an 8k camera like perhaps a RED, Nikon Z9 or Canon R5 :)

Drinking during your video is actually rude and distracting. I think your vids are better without that. You can always pause the recording, take a sip, and then resume. Still, I enjoy your vids.

Sometimes I am time constrained and need to get the video out without too much editing, also sometimes I think it is nice with a more relaxed video that is not so perfect (that is also why I didn't cut out any "ehm" "uhms" etc.) Taking your feedback into consideration though.

Greetings from the Philippines... I love your cabinet, is it moisture proofed?

No it is not. I don't think it is needed in Sweden as we do not have much humidity for most of the year.
