Really enjoying your vid's A BUNCH! You take complex info and explain it with that blunt upstate NY style. My wife is from Lockport - so I know the vibe. lol We both went to RIT so I am intimately familiar with lake effect snow. We live in the SF Bay Area so we can visit it whenever we want. I just got a Wahoo Kickr Bike to overcome my friction. My Wahoo trainer was in the spare room till my niece moved in with us. Once it went to the garage I hadn't used it for most of 2021. I've now got the bike setup in a very tight but usable garage spot and am loving it. I've put on more Zwift miles since Christmas than all of last year. Keep up the great content! PS: I really want to ride the Erie Canal trail. It looks like a beautiful ride for a spring or fall trek.

I like you live along the shore of Lake Erie. Snow... don't even want to think about it. What I really enjoy is the refreshing breeze off the Lake in the Months of April and May. Or the early Spring fog events caused by the wind shifting direction. The joy of living Lakeside. Then again I'll never be thirsty. New to your channel and although most of your techie Zwift stuff goes right over my head I really enjoy your humor. Usually a couple of nuggets per video make me laugh.

Thanks for the look at your area. Totally agree about the value of a dedicated space. We have a large bedroom so I set up mine up there. I’ve made my old ‘08 Specialized Roubaix as the dedicated Zwift bike, with a Wahoo Kickr v5 and the Climb unit. I run Zwift on my 2020 iPad, and sometimes stream it to a 40” TV via Apple TV. I like that table, I’ll have to check that out.

Thanks for sharing! Always interested to see how others set up their spaces. Totally agree with the workspace comment - it is great to have a door and be able to leave that area at the end of the workday. I am luck enough to have separate space in the house for an office and a pain cave. The challenge for me is just not stopping at the couch on the way to the workout! I've been looking for a stable/solid alternative to the wahoo desk 'cause I'm cheap, so thanks for showing the RAD one..have to look into that!
@EverythingIsPhotogenic
@EverythingIsPhotogenic 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a ton! You don't have to be cheap to turn up your nose at the Wahoo desk... the value is tough to justify at $250. It used to be more!! The Rad has gone up about 16 bucks since last year, given the shipping and supply crunches people have been dealing with, I don't really begrudge them that, I think at its current price, it still is a good value for as much as I use it. I used to use a repurposed table, and was happy with the tradeoff to a nice grippy surface with some extra storage for drinks and a way to prop up my phone or tablet if I wanted. There's a cheaper model on Amazon for about $100 but you can see it doesn't look nearly as sturdy or as large. I really love that this one looks premium without the premium cost... now if only I could get Teddy to stop jumping on it 😂

Thank you for the tour. If there is the opportunity, a dedicated space/set up is great. You are spot on about removing friction to get a workout done. This year, I decided to get a "lower quality" rim that I could use with a dedicated trainer tire. I would use this to easily swap onto my bike for the wheel on trainer. No more changing tires to support an indoor workout. So far, its been a great solution, before I decide to finally invest in a direct drive. The only real friction now is our new 8 month old who makes me value sleep a little more than I did before, so no more 5am workouts!

you can reduce the rowing ‘boredom’ or ‘barrier to entry’ by doing brick workouts occasionally: 1km row at l.t.h.r./3km bike at ftp, rest, repeat. or, in lieu of a long ride, doing a duathlon: 5km row/ 1 hour bike tt/ 3km row.

I have much the same set-up as your own (65" curve screen Samsung TV with a TacX Neo 2T. You are so correct how much better the direct drive set-up is for performance on Zwift. Now, if my constantly finicky 3 heart rate monitors would just connect without a bunch of weeping and gnashing of teeth, that would just grand! I have two Wahoo and one Garmin and just select the one that decides it's going to play on any given day. It's the only pain in the backside to an otherwise smooth-as-butter setup. As for the rest, I think I need a drill sergeant. :)

John here. Awesome as usual! I totally concur in regards to Saris, (I love my H2), and Vornado fans. I also use a Lasko blower/fan in the warmer summer months. Books, podium medals, a few photos and a couple of framed posters complete my space which is a nice little alcove. I will send photos in the next day or two. I've got a small house and no spare rooms. I use an unused area in my living/dining room for a Kicker, my bike and a three speed industrial fan with remote, The bike is in front of a bookshelf with an empty shelf for my laptop. I can leave it setup all the time. Only shortcoming is that I can't interact with my laptop while I'm on the bike. Maybe I can find some sort of remote for my laptop. Or maybe use an iPad somehow attached to my handle bars.
@EverythingIsPhotogenic

If you're up for a little arts and crafts, I would recommend a wireless keyboard, doesn't matter the brand, and stick a quarter turn mount on the back. Use a bike computer mount on the top of your handlebars or your stem and twist lock it in place - I would use one of the cheap rubber band mounts that come with a lot of computers and watches if you have an out-front aero mount for outdoor use (the bars would block the keyboard from twisting into place). They also sell these mini keyboards that have smaller keys and they take up less real estate, so you can use the same concept but it won't block as much access to the tops, or can even sit on a smaller stand nearby. Here's just one example, I haven't used it myself, but another rider I talk to on the TR forums has been using one for awhile now and likes it: amzn.to/3EXjg9n

@EverythingIsPhotogenic
@EverythingIsPhotogenic 2 жыл бұрын
Are you looking to try to double the trainers in the small space so you can ride together? Or just eliminate the hassle of the perpetual swapping? If it's the latter, maybe a smart bike? I know they're pricey, but the thought is you could each use a china marker or something to mark your positions and be swapped in less than a minute. Is there a middle ground with a cheap bike with quick adjustments? Depends on how similar you two are, how important it is to be in your position (frequency and goals are key) and how sensitive you are to a suboptimal fit. Dual trainers... That's really going to be a matter of how cozy and creative you could get in the space. Think someone's head might be by someone's ass 😆 But honestly trainers don't have to be side by side and facing the same way... Maybe there are some handlebar mounts you could use for devices and stagger the bikes or line them up pointing at each other. I can't say I have seen anything that I can recall that stood out for two athletes being very tight on space... I'll keep my eye out.

Greetings, newcomer to your channel - been binge watching your zwift materials - was looking for a way to reach out to you direct but no dice, i assume that's intentional to avoid freakoids - lol... Despite roaming around on reddit and other forums - i've found no useful information anywhere thus far, on how to learn to actually ride on a smart direct drive trainer, out of the saddle in zwift (or rgt for that matter) - i've seen people filmed on youtube doing it but i'm apparently a dolt because i just can't manage to figure it out... I'm running a wahoo smart trainer v4. So, I've been trying to figure out the technique but after nearly a month i'm getting seriously turned off to this whole thing... I live on long island and with the weather / temps, i just can't hack the cold here to ride outdoors (i know you're in buffalo and have heard you talk about the same), with your pain cave and dedication to cycling, i'm hopeful you'll have some advice on this topic... Perhaps this is something you can either talk about in a future episode or if you know of any good places to get info from or open forums that talk about this type of stuff and could share, that'd be great... To clarify what's going on - i have been using the "training" modes mostly in zwift - where you pretty much need to run with ERG active. I'm finding when i get out of the saddle and my cadence drops, that the erg disables but i can't get the cadence up high enough to reduce the resistance so I end up in the death spiral of increasing resistance to full lock up. If i push through a high intensity interval and find myself numb, when the recovery interval comes, if i try to get out of the saddle to shake off the numbness, it often overshoots, with tons of slack in the drive train and i'm "smacking" the gears on each turn of the crank, which can't be good for the trainer or my bike and i'm worried about damaging them - but i can't sit in that same position for more than 15-20mins without numbness - not something i have an issue with in the "real world"... Thanks in advance for your time and thanks for the great content - really like your format and the extra effort to create chapters in your videos... You're a wealth of knowledge and I'm glad you're sharing it... Best Wishes... Chris

Hi Sara, I was Zwifting today and I saw something that I wanted to ask about. I passed a rider that had a Tron bike and attached to the Tron bike was what looked like a Tron Wahoo Kicker trainer (it as blue). He was on the roadway riding along at his own pace. I tried to get a screen shot to send you to see directly but it happened really fast and he was gone in a few seconds. Have you seen a combo Tron bike and Tron Wahoo trainer on the road way? Is there a hack to do something like that? It really stood out so it was easy to see....Since. you are the Zwift Yoda, I knew you would be the person to ask....
@tomjenkins5016
@tomjenkins5016 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not Yoda but I'm fairly sure this is a bug. I see it sometimes too. In normal circumstances when waiting in a pen for a race to start, riders will be on the blue trainer to indicate they can spin their wheels to keep their legs warm without moving. When the race starts, the trainer disappears and off you go. I think sometimes Zwift shows a rider actually riding along attached to their trainer in error. Obvs you wouldn't normally expect to ride along the road towing a Kickr!
