LOVELY work Peter! Dare I say; 'You're a 'Crafty' man?! LOL! There's SUCH a 'warmth' that resounds from an item hand-made...I picture homes at Christmas, where each made their gifts 4 one another...TRUE Gifts! Perhaps your 'time period' has given you a bit of angst (can't sit still - your words) making you feel U R always 'late' for things. LOL! The reverse strap idea is a good one, it reminds me of a Sean Connery film I once viewed and his character insisted on wearing socks inside out. He stated when asked (paraphrased) 'What is the point of wearing the agitating seams against your foot? Keep them out.' With all we witness of your fine talents, methinks U R the 'stuff of Legends'. And here's the proof; "If your actions inspire others to dream more, Learn more, Do more, and become more. You are a leader." (John Quincy Adams). I constructed my possibles bag from leather repurposed from a 1979 Lincoln Towncar seat. The only thing authentic about it would be the stitching and the repurposing LOL.

Strong & practical. The workmanship is obvious. You are a genuine "allrouder" to use a cricket term - more than handy at everything - ideally suited to your 18th century. It would be interesting to see the hunter panicking to get his second shot prepped as a large wounded animal took exception to his presence. He'd need a well organised shooting bag!! I love the old word "accoutrements"!! Can't say I have heard it for years, but you use it often on your channel.

@ 12:47---I always start the first needle in the second hole, or area, where I want the stitches to be, then through the first hole, then back through the second hole again. This gives you a strong, neat, stitch to start. And at the end, you just back stitch one hole, and your done.

Very nice work on those two shooting bags. Anyone would be proud to own one such as these two bags. As always I really enjoy your instructional content and your easy going, laid back commentary. I just returned from a primative living history rendezvous in the wilds of the Florida North West panhandle. This video just brought back those memories from my trek last week. Practicing and taking part in the old ways always brings appreciation and joy to my heart.

Saddle stich. Get one length of thread that is extra long for the job. Tie a couple of knots in one place in the middle of it's length. Put the needles on both ends of the single thread. The needles go back and forth through the same hole in the leather. Saddle stitch. If you learn this you won't need much else. 8-) This all works a lot easier if you hold your leather in a leather horse.

Didn't make deer but elk is it's 2 weeks out and we got some fish coming up the river too some coho so I'll be able to get some of those I might get a late season deer tag maybe I still have a lot of work on the inside of the cabin to do I got a lot of a lot of cabinets to build but it's livable right now

Made one years ago out of deer hide surprising the approximate size of yours. Yours is much nicer by far but the carrying of something I made myself gives me a bit of pride. Had a guy I know tell me "You know they sell those". If you don't know why someone makes something themselves then I guess I can't explain it. Thanks again for keeping the spirit alive.

Hello Peter & Family. I found your bag video very interesting. In making a knife sheath, I cross each stitch, making a knot in the welt. This just in case one of the stitches gets cut, the knots will prevent it from unravaling all the way. Not so much a problem with your well done bag. Cheers.

great information and well put together for the videos. A good leather craftsman still uses the awl and nothing else to poke holes while saddle stitching.

Fascinating and interesting. What animal leather did you use? Did women use those bags? I know they wore cloth pockets in their slips.

Beautiful leather work by the way. I like the way those turned out. I restore vintage Coleman lanterns and I started making/selling leather handle covers so the handles don’t dent the tank. A bit of work but I enjoy it. I get to use some of my dad’s old leather working tools as well which is a bonus. You could double up on your strap and stitch two pieces together with the smooth side out. Just what you need. More work. Sorry. Never mind. Haha.

I will be starting a new bag shortly. As a graduation gift I make a leather bag for each of my kids. Anything they want. They pick the color, style and size. Thanks again and keep your powder dry!

Nice work...! I find that smaller bags help keep things down to the necessities. Have you tried using 3F? It's the only granulation I use these days for every caliber, even for priming.. Ignites easier and also uses less powder for the same punch as 2F. Really enjoying the channel... Thanks for the video...

Leather work is a very therapeutic chore, if you will. Too many now days use a machine for stitching, or a Speedy Stitcher, the saddle stitch is SOOOO much more superior! Next you need to show how you made the shot pouch. Others have but curious about yours. Thanks for the channel and your vids!

Watched this a second time and the bag looks great you truly are gifted to know how to do so many thing. Of particular interest the extra parts and tools you carry for repairing Jenny in the field, experience in the field must have taught you to do this. What a bummer it must be to draw a bead on Game to have something break right at that time.

Only shot a muzzle loader once, never saw where the bullet went, to much power smoke. Very interesting what you need to take with you. Great video Peter. Keep yer power dry

I'm curious about the gourd canteen you have hanging on the wall in the background. Grew a bunch of these gourds this summer, but can't figure out how I should attach the spout securely. Seems as if just gluing it on is a recipe for having it break off; is there a better way to attach it?

Love your possible bags! I have made cartridge and cap boxes for US Civil War impressions, as well as bayonet scabbards. So I appreciate the work you are doing! Have you made a "belly box"? Curved block of wood with 18 or 20, holes deep enough to hold paper cartridges with / without the ball. There are straps on the front that the waist belt goes around and holds against hip or belly. Just a block of wood shaped like a kidney with a leather flap over it.

I have a bag my Father made that I think is a reproduction of a Continental soldier’s “ necessary bag”. It is much larger as I think the carried many pre rolled cartridges. I am not certain if I should just use this bigger bag for hunting or make a smallish one for day hunts?

Gotten alot of compliments at some events, even from some of the old guys that are members of the CLA! It is always fun to make something with your hands. What's everyone in the comments favorite thing to make?? I like making powder horns personally.

Much smaller shooting bag than typically carried by Western fur trappers down here in the U states in the early 19th Century. About the same size of the leather belt bags that I make to sell at rendezvous. Good hunting. Trapper Tom, Washington State.

Howdy peter Looks very handy ... I brought a lot more with me when I went hunting with my bow... Is that the same stitch you used on your canoe ? Done a few thing with leather when I was hunting , quiver worked out great and lasted so much longer ... friends were buying new ones offend and I had the same for many years . You will able to make some buckles when you get your blacksmith shop agoin' Good luck on your hunt !
