Check out the first of two outbuilding on our property - that we know of! This large barn is full of potential, and we're excited to see what we can do with it. Plus, Ryann and Dee have a surprise for us!

Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world travelling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular.
In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?”
They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties.
They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Chateau de Saint Germain des Pres.
A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Chateau.
They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure.

As a massage therapist, I would love a space in the barn! Besides if you rent to wellness practitioners ( as well as artists) you only have to walk out of the chateau for your own massages! 🤗

You need to keep Dee in the videos she is awesome. Ryann did a great job with the spiders. What an awesome space and you are so right a gallery upstairs is perfect and letting other artist host workshops there is a great idea as well as hosting your own. Lot of love to you all.

OH I do agree, the outside of the side barn was so sweet, then later when the back of barn, showing that beautiful, large, outdoor covered area! I got so excited and could see a artists conversing with others, while seating and enjoying the views.

I cannot add enough heart eyes emojis to express how much i love this place. I would have totally bought it for the barn too. As you were showing us around I could see so many potential uses for the spaces. If you hold big events I could see feeding people in the old cow barn porting with big harvest tables spread all around. And the out door covered area is just asking for strung lights and a summer party. I can't wait to see it all complete (in a few years I know) Great job Dee and Ryann just getting t cob webs out made a huge difference..

That cleaning made a huge difference. Now some sanding and paint and Steve is good to go with his art studio! Sweet, nice, and genuine family ! Great out building, and the horses and cows had a swanky place to stay for sure.

How exciting for you, I can see how you must have fallen in love with the outbuildings, the stonework as well of the grounds and the Chateau of course. Brave ladies tackling those spiders, ugh, but what a great surprise and you can move your art bits in immediately when they arrive. All good for the winter, I think it’s going to be a cold one. WCL

Love the barn! As you stated, the potential is endless. The "big dust-up" by Ryann and Dee was wonderful and demonstrated how just dusting and sweeping can be encouraging. Bravo! to two very sweet women.

The out buildings are amazing, I can see why you love them so. It was so kind of your relatives to clean it up for you. Now you just need to clean the chicken coop and get some hens to complete the effect of country life in France. LOVE the temper beams in the barns.🇨🇦

This round brush is called a 'tete de loup' or wolfs head, I was just given one by a friend shocked by my extensive collection of pretty webs ! Still haven't used it !

That is so cute. I don’t remember what we called them growing up, he probably just had nicknames for it, but I can see if I’m searching for them here in the US that they are usually labeled cobweb duster. Wolfs head is much more exciting!

The farm is awesome!!! The building is beautiful ... Well, the spiders have definitely taken up residence. This will be an awesome studio and so much fun to have the bread oven!!! Goodness I love the stable. What great spaces. This looks like it is in good repair. Love seeing the old things. This building is so amazing and so beautiful! Love the old doors and they can easily be restored. All the best to you all. Love the old timbers. Yes, the stone work is stunning. Great job ladies!!!

As a sculptor who built a 40 x 60 pole barn with a concrete floor, for my husband's machine shop and my studio, I know just how excited you are to have such a wonderful creative space. ⭐ Outstanding Outbuilding Tour! ⭐ What a stunning structure! Such a handsome spot for 🖼️Steve's Studio🎨. So 🆒: the petite 🐴 horse stall + tack room, the troughs for cows🐮, the chicken 🐔 coop, a utility room for 🚜tractor + ⚒️tools, & a 🍞 + 🍕 oven (be still my ❤️ + tummy😋). That massive hay barn is glorious. Just calling out for a gallery & an artist 🖌️ workshop 🪡 that can transform to 🎉 party central. Perfect for a sophisticated 🍷 & 🧀 soiree too! 🌟Wowsa! Absolutely in 💕 love 💕 with covered patios. In SoCalifornia, you can almost enjoy them year-round. (Maybe 🚫 in France.) 😎They really are a lifesaver when the🌡️mercury rises🥵. 😉As you said, it will make an exciting multi-use space. Omg those are the best out buildings, and they are actually in pretty good shape. Yeah you need to at least patch the roof for now, but wow the spaces and potential hay even if you used for there intended purposes how intact they are. This property just keeps on giving!

Love the barn / painting studio! If only it could be done by tomorrow 😄 but as I can see the roof needs fixing. Something that can happen immediately would be chickens or other animals in the other part, imagine fresh eggs! Well in the meantime keep calm and carry on Steve,Sarah and family!💙

That's what I thought also about the barn "Potential." The attic is probably the " hay loft." Where the stable is may be where milking cows were. The metal bowls attached to the stalls are what the cows push down with their nose to get a drink while standing.

Thank you for the tour Sara and Steve. This was great. I really like the exterior stonework. Oh gosh. The old cow stanchions with the water bowls that have the plunger in them that the cow would press to drink the water. Old school. Reminds me of home. Our barns had the same setup. Gosh, so much you could do with all the space on the 2nd level. An art gallery would be an awesome idea. With all the walls being stone. Love it. Dee and Ryann, you're the best. Steve you must keep that beautiful pink light hanging in the center of your office... hahahahahaha, jk.

Wow… So many possibilities. I can just imagine smelling fresh bread wafting in the air. I think that top floor is perfect for that art gallery you are imagining. But, it could also pivot and be used for an event space, yes? A stage at one end would be perfect for a small band, poetry reading, teaching an art class, while having the ability to store tables, chairs, etc. underneath. And don’t get me started on the stables, tack room and cow barn…. Bovine Bar, anyone? How fun!

The barn is really beautiful! I think a lot of people would have just purchased the barn on its own to convert and live in, so it's awesome that it comes along with the chateau. The gallery idea is wonderful, as well as the mixed use artist workshops. I also feel that many artists in various fields would want to find inspiration there, and have their work displayed there too.

These outbuildings are wonderful. So much potential!! I love the open space at the outside of the buildings. Depending Steve, you can after sorting out the floor, you can paint outside on a hot summers day, you can exhibitions of all sorts there. The gals did a wonderful job in clearing and cleaning. I would do a better quality staircase, a nice wide one so you can carry the artwork up or down. How about having a music evening during summer time. I am sure local musicians will gladly show their talents and make it a grand evening for all to enjoy. As you say, so much potential. Thank you so much for the white lettering on the black background! Now I can read quickly and not miss the beautiful things you show us like this barn! On second floor be sure to leave room for dancing in front of the artwork. Many museums do that now and bring in professional dancers to use the art as inspiration for work they choreograph. Brining different types of art together is very inspiring.

What a great barn. I love the different sections and the doorways which are absolutely charming. I agree with you that the upper floor would make a great art gallery. Another idea for the other sections, could be rental studios or a mini-hotel. The wooden overhang is a perfect place to have a patio, barbeque and bar for either yourselves or for guests. Like you said, "the potential is endless".
