Let's read a print drawing, whip up the CAD then use the Tormach CNC lathe to make this hemispherical washer for a toolmaker's vise for the 2015 What's In Your Box giveaway project!
Special thanks for Brad Jacob for coordinating and, of course, to Keith Fenner for all his work with the What's in Your Box project!

John, You made making that part look easy. The CNC lathe is a marvel. Glad you are a part of the What's in my tool box group. Excellent work!

Pretty cool John! I like the drive over the bridge in fast mode. It was great to have you and your better half, stop by and play around with our projects for the What's in your box? Giveaway 2015. Later today the next episode in the giveaway will be published on my channel. ;{)-------

Nice John... It's nuts seeing machinists from different channels get together in one video.

Loved the trip to Keith's shop. I recently moved from Cape Cod to Kentucky. The footage brought back good memories. Been to Keith's shop several times. Nice job on the part. Haven't seen much on the Tormach lathe, found that interesting. I'm old school, I'd be thinking form tool to make the radius.

That's pretty cool John! I like knowing I'll be helping out on that same project for the tool giveaway. I've been trying to get the K&T repaired so I can get started on the main vise body, but we may have to use the DoAll. Great to see you and Keith hanging together! Thanks for sharing. Adam

Another awesome video! Quick handy little tip in SW when using center / construction lines when you dimension the parts is to just mouse over on the other side of the construction line so you can dimension the diameter instead of doing dia/2. Thumbs up!

Very minor thing but might help. When you draw your sketch to be revolved in SW if you draw the enclosed body like you did but then also draw a dashed centerline anywhere along the rotational axis you can dimension anything to it and the dimension will snap to the diameter meaning you don't need to divide anything. Makes changes etc easier. Great videos, look forward to them every week.

John, I didn't see you constrain the center point of the radius to the rotational axis which is a necessity for spherical surface. When you corrected the radius at 2:51, it looks like it came close but not on which is why the part looks OK. Otherwise, a great Wednesday Widget.

Maybe just a quick idea for adding more stability when grinding... add a centre pin that is a push fit through the ID of part. Just an idea :)

nice video. Keith is one of my fav youtube channels next to yours :). I have a question...why do you hang the part out so far on the lathe? When I went to school to be a precision machinist you were taught to choke up on the part as much as possible for max rigidity. regards

why don't you just use Autodesk Inventor. from my experiences with cnc machines all I did was design it in inventor , transfer the file into the CNC program and the lathe did the work

You made me cringe when you put those gauge blocks on the mag chuck. There are few faster ways to inadvertently wear out gauge blocks.
