This fully loaded Air/Light costs $500,000 with all of the SCBAs that keep the firefighters in the fight. Air/Lights are not very popular apparatus, but are extremely important for the safety of firefighters! They provide air refills during long duration fires and they provide light for scene safety. Hello, nice review, it is a very interesting truck, I am a firefighter in Costa Rica and here we use similar units which we call ARAC, which would be the definition of SCBA in Spanish for us, these units have the cascade system to recharge the cylinders and also have several spare cylinders and several SCBAs with their masks ready to use, portable lamps, chargers for radio batteries, another function that it also has is to be a rehab unit carries tables, chairs, hydrants, energy bars, coffe maker and others to keep well firefighters during long emergencies

I was hoping one of the compartments would be labeled "critical REHAB" and when opened, tons of ice cold beers would be on ice. Things have changed.

The last dept I was on has a truck identical to that one but it's a heavy rescue. Basically the compartments carry different stuff but the truck looks just like that one. Another awesome feature on ours for rehab was we had a camper style awning on the driver side to provide shade.

Hello what an awesome truck where i live we have heavy rescue squads that do air and light so its like a combo unit for special operations we have 5 rescues that do it

also what a low amount of spare bottles are rescues carry 40 spare bottles

One reason they may not carry more bottles is because of the Rehab protocols set in the area. Some protocols state that if you complete a bottle you must sit out and get hydrated and BP checked. Remember just breathing ONE bottle you lose up to one liter of fluid just through your breath, let alone the sweat from working the fire. So by the time you make it through rehab and are ready to return to the fire your bottle should be filled and checked by the crews running the air/light. This also frees up space and weight on the truck itself.

Some rescue trucks have cascade systems on them instead of a air light truck. I know honey brook chesco station 33, their old rescue truck had one. Unsure of their new one

Those filters are so small in comparison to our ones in the station :D And we have lights and beams on almost every vehicle at our FD. There are special GW-A or AB-A, too, witch specialise in air. So e.g 24 self contained breathing apparatusses with 24 reserve bottles, light full portection suits and every equipment to support that.

A more appropriate name for the rig is: Cascade/RIT Unit , or Cascade/Rescue because it not only has the SCBA refilling unit but it has equipment for rescuing someone in an accident.

Why not put as many of those support things on there. Throw a water pump in there keep supplies. Electric air. What ever else they need. Drinking water a first aid kit. Make it kinda like a central supply depo. The fire side of the truck can have the pump and electric. The back side can have the air fill and bottled water all the extra stuff

This station is one of three West Chester fire stations and they have multiple engines for pumping. They do a lot of mutual aid with supplying air during extended fires. It would definitely make sense to put a pump on there if you are in an area that doesn’t have multiple engines.

Great truck but they should atleast carry six fire extinguishers just in case. Imagine if the truck happened to be randomly passing a vehicle fire with people trapped inside, the crew on the truck could commence a small attack until the right apparatus arrives.

Yeah, we definitely want to show a full range of stations with different funding. The boroughs in our area actually own the apparatus and the volunteers manage the building and equipment.
