Thanks - a heliograph is often contained in life rafts, for signalling to others to attract attention :)

Fair question Gordon! - This life raft didn't contain any - you may find that other types, or particular manufacturers do include them.

A knife for general use??!!! I would have thought it is to cut the painter so that the raft is free to go from the sinking boat.

No, every life raft has to have a knife to cut its painter. Afterwards it’s a general use knife...

Not in this one sadly - probably a low to middle of the range example. In this case I'd advise carrying some in a grab bag, to take with you.
