We listed the organ and had no takers, so I decided to take it apart. What project could I do with these switches and buttons?

My son and I have been collecting old organs to part out for a modular synthesizer we are building. It is amazing to find all types of OP Amps and 4000 series ICs in them. Some are socketed while others are soldered in, but no problem as we have 3 vacuum pump desoldering stations. These ICs and other circuits are what we are using to build our modular synthesizer on to stripboards.

It was a little sad watching this video. All the engineering and construction going into this fine instrument back in the day. And I’m guessing it was expensive at the time.

Thank you for putting this video up. I find myself in the situation of having to decide whether to let one of these exact model organs go, or sentimentally keep it and fix it up -- sticking keys, unresponsive sliders, broken lights, completely broken "Symphonic Wow" sound... and no service manual. My jaw dropped when you took the lid off. What a passion project that would be. I might just end up keeping the frame and bench as, like you say, the wood and construction is magnificent. Thanks again for a possible glimpse into my future.

It is so hard to watch... so many good boards... and don't forget the spring reverb. You could have build a synthesizer from the parts.

Too bad that you ended up taking it apart, it could be a fun instrument to play on. I know so much about these organs, and this one is analog technology. The reason why it did not sell, it due to the decline and demands for home market has declined. You could even give this one away, not even if it were digital.

Car dash. Also the spinning thing is for certain sounds. Sounds crazy if you run it outside the organ.

Make Room, Try harder. There will never again be another great analog electronic organ made. They deserve to be cared for until a proper home is found for them. They make excellent studio instruments. They are absolutely great instruments for young people to learn on. The saddest part is that in 50 years there will be few examples left, but instead of just buying a $200 copy like you can with guitars, the studios will own all of the great Hammond, Conn, Kimball, Baldwin, Yamaha, Wurlitzer, Gulbransen, Rodgers, Allen, Thomas, Lowrey, Kuwai, and European models. ALL PRE 1968 ORGANS USE SIMPLE COMMON DISCRETE ELECTRONIC PARTS. THEY CAN OPERATE FOR HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF YEARS! SAVE THESE INSTRUMENTS.

Todd Chandler...what a blast from the past. When did I see you last? Was it 1994, Cary Quad, some loud obnoxious WCCR thing? And now I’m sitting at my organ watching you with an organ video. Too funny where the last nearly 30 years has taken us. -Jason. Yes that one. 😁

Lots of ICs. The best being (3) NE566 function generators. I harvested one 2 years ago.

@@ToddChandler Somehow I missed this. I'm sure you've already done it. What I did was just took it completely apart. I kept everything (including the wood) and sorted all parts by what they are and put in seperate bins. And all miles of wire you get out of it is great and very useful. One thing I always recommend doing is pop all the ICs out of their sockets and labeled the ones that were Lowrey part numbers with the actual IC numbers. There are many cross reference sites telling you what is what. I really love saving these parts. I went and picked up a few other free organs that weren't in great shape and did the same thing with them. I know some people get upset with the concept of harvesting organs for parts but, I save them from going to the dump. I wouldn't do it with a sought after organ unless it's beyond repair. Those just become donors. I feel it's WAY better to harvest them than have them just end up in a landfill. Many people have thanked me for providing much needed parts to repair their organs.

Is there a switch that says "super sonic"? You could maybe mount on a running hat or shirt or shoe ... for when you want to run really fast!
