I found a 70 Year Old #vintage #sewing box at the #thriftstore! This is a video of me #unboxing #timecapsule - I sure did have a fun time, it was like Christmas. I got to see lots of vintage items that I can still used today - and even some personal items and #fashion art. What is your favorite thing that we found?

Oh Claire! This was so much fun to watch. It took me back to my early days in the 70s. I would sit on the floor when my mothered sewed and I was allowed to unpack and repack her sewing box. I especially loved her button collection - she had so many! I would sit there for ages sorting buttons by colour, by size, by number of holes, shininess etc .... a very happy time for a little Autistic child. 💚

I totally get the "time capsule"-fun, love to explore old things like that! And I have a lot of those extra-buttons😅 The "holder" could be something people use for knitting complicated patterns, saw equal in plastic. They are put in to count easier I guess. But didn't see it good enough on my phone, even I used fullscreen. Btw my sewing-box is an old wooden I got from the flea market as a teenager.

Claire, you're a girl after my own heart! This is one of my favorite kinda finds. It is like xmas, discovering all those little treasures. Plus, it's a time capsule into one housewife's life. I would not doubt she is the artist & I picture her out on the town in her amazing handmade halter cocktail dress. What color & fabric do you think she would have chosen? hUgz from Ohio, Lee

This is a fun find! I think the canvas trim stuff that there's a yard or so of is belting, like you cover in fabric to make a stable matching belt for your dress.

16:48 it looks similar to an item on Etsy wiith three rubber tracks instead of four that Claire's holding - listing description below: 1950s Vintage Anchortex Skirt Belting by Geo. S. Colton Elastic Web Co., Easthampton Mass. Anchors the blouse in place - Anchortex is sewn on the inside of skirt waistband so non-skid rubber tracks contact the blouse. Absolutely prevents blouse pulling out, twisting or riding up. Boilproof. Rubber withstands laundering and steam pressing. Grand for slacks and shorts. Length 32 inches. Cotton binding base 32” long 1 1/4” width 73% cotton/27% rubber Washable/dry cleanable

Definitely a relaxing video for sure. You know me I love old stuff so this was right up my alley. You said stockings but I was thinking of those 1950’s sock upholders that men used to wear under dress pants. They would go directly under your knee and attach to the socks. The baby sock and drawing or design I should say are super cool. I had the same problem when I got my Addi and I had some of those straight yarn needles with the golden tops, but needed one with a bend so(don’t try this at home kids) I bend my own using two pairs of pliers. Worked out really well and then later I was thinking that was dangerous what if the needle breaks lol. Very cool time capsule. I have a wooden box of my grandmas also with notions and other stuff in it. I left everything that was in there in there pretty cool.

ahh sock garters - i know what you are referring to. i'm glad i am not the only one to think that the plastic needle that comes with the knitting machine doesn't cut it.

So fun! ... I have some self-threading needles. They are good for quick jobs, but they are also self-unthreading, so frustrating if you are sewing a long time. Nice to have though.

Fun find! We had an old button box when I was a kid that had buttons going back to at least the 30's. Maybe even earlier. It was passed down from my mom's side of the family. I loved looking at the old buttons. Unfortunately it got lost or stolen.

Very nice! I can't believe someone gave away art and a birth announcement!! The thick trim stuff makes me think of a fabric belt... but can't see it that well so I'm not positive. My first thought was it was a belt though.

WOW! What a cool find! I love stuff like this - a real treasure box. I once bought a tin of mixed buttons, beads & random craft stuff from ebay & spent ages sorting the contents & they're still being used! When I was little, I loved sorting my mother's sewing box, which was always a mess - something about taking it all out & putting it back in order really soothed me. Thanks for sharing 💚
