Do not sew on sequin! Even if you have the right needle. The best advice i got was when using sequin fabric lay the pattern pieces on the fabric use a long hand stitch to mark the seam. Once you do that, remove all the sequin from the seam so that it's easier to sew the two pieces together and reduce bulk. I usually save the sequin i took off the seam to hand sew them onto areas around the seam that need to be filled in. This has saved my computerized brother machine and many needles.

We (as a family) are addicted to the Singer brand. 😇 I inherited most of them. The oldest is a - working - vintage machine with foot rocker. I use it for thicker materials to get a nice straight stitch as the machine takes it without complaining or constantly breaking thread. It is a more "modern" version as it has already a zig-zag stitch (chosen with a lever switch). I can personally decide on the speed, so that is another bonus on several projects. Next up are 3 mechanical sewing machines about 30, 20 and 10 years old. All 3 have this fancy setting for button holes 😉 and some pretty stitches like the blanket stitch 🤭😳. 1 is set up for sewing clothes, 1 for patchwork and 1 for quilting (basic in the ditch ☺), but can easily be changed for family sewing sessions. Last in the Singer sewing group is my serger/overlock ... Then there are 2 old mechanic Pfaff machines ... I don't like them as much, but they are doing their job. They are mainly used by my children, when we have our sewing sessions 🥳 and all 5 machines are humming away. All those machines never went for service as my late father kept them in shape (one of his jobs during his university time was that of a repair man ... beside radios and record players, sewing machines was one of the staples). He taught me exactly how to take care of my tools. I miss him. Take care - Europe 🌷

Why do you think you need to take them in? If you clean them at least every second time or third time you use them and you use your oil sparingly. I don’t know that you would necessarily have to take them in. My machines get cleaned and vacuumed out so often they’re probably tired of being fussed with 😹😹😹😂🤪🤣 I just have to remember to oil the bobbin case on every change

I collect vintage machines so who knows how many I have. LOL, There are 2 Necchis, many vintage Singers 2 of which are Featherweights, many Kenmores one is a Tri Span 88, a lot of badged Japanese machines, 1 Babylock emb/sewing machine, 3 Viking emb/sewing machines, 2 sergers one is a babylock with a Juki motor the other is a Brother. I have a Sailrite for heavy duty work. I have a 15 needle embroidery machine, from Bluesky. I went to a 2 day workshop and disassembled a Davis 3/4 treadle machine and put it back together. It is kind of cool cause it has that leaf spring top tension on it. This list could easily go on. LOL I alway love the vids about machine repair and maintenance, Thank you.

I have a Bernina 930 (?) . It's in the shop for a spa and I won't get it back for 4 weeks! I really like my 40 year old machine and hope it will last me the rest of my life. I had a house fire in 2001 and lost the Bernina I had owned for 27 years. This was the used replacement. There are new features I would love to have like needle threading, needle down in stop, thread cutting but most of all a decent lighting system. The sewing machine is one of the all time great inventions. I actually was given my grandmother's treadle as well as my Dad's and my Mom's. I am awash in sewing machines and yes I am old enough to have learned to sew on a treadle. Rural places often did not have enough people for an electric line to be run. I enjoy your you tubes.

Mechanical! A Juki and a Baby Lock accomplish…Also a Bernina b35 that I bought from a yard sale for $60, which does more than just sew a straight stitch. The computerized machines have all the bells and whistles, but it’s difficult to know what’s going on when it’s not working properly. I love kicking it old school because it’s so much less complicated.😊Simple is best unless you’re a mechanic! I wish I had a Featherweight…Lori Holt has lots of retro machines and retro irons and she uses her skill and talent to design fabric, write books, design rulers and she uses all of her scrap fabric. I like simple patchwork blocks and quilts like are grandmas used to make!

It depends on how you take care of them. Singer machines are mostly metal. The stress parts are the nonmetal parts. I have seen the inner workings of my 9960 after dropping a needle into the machine. I had to take it apart to get the needle out.

You are right and T should know better based on his knowledge of the old featherweights. I bought a used 6 year old Pfaff that was $5000 when new. I paid $800 for it about a year ago and the plastic storage drawer broke recently. Have had it serviced twice and it needs to be serviced again. Cheap plastic crap.

My computerized Bernina just stopped powering on, so I brought it in and the technician told me it needs a new motherboard and they no longer make a motherboard for my machine so I need to buy new machine

I have a Juki dx 4000qvp that I love and got from you all for my everyday -work. A juki dx 2000 for my travel machine. Bernina 790 pro for my long arm room and the bernina Q24 long arm . Never in my life did I think I would have four machines at one time.
