Handy to also check the Gas Rate and Expansion vessel pressure when cold.

I have never seen any two people do the same service testing. The way they get done depends on which way the wind blows I think.

why have you removed the combustion chamber case when doing the FGA?

We carry out a Safe isolation before touching the boiler, and check it has a 3amp fuse, then carry out the service according to manufacturers.

How did you use that manometer without a reducer I've got one & the hose you used is too big for it
@whome58102 жыл бұрын
@Village Heating Great video! When you stick the probe into the flu to do the combustion analysis does the probe go into the exhaust part of the flu only? But when you test the air intake of the flu does the probe come out of the exhaust and go into the air intake part of the flu only?

How long wojld you say a standard service for a combi boiler would take?

@@steventhomson2104 how long according to you?
@steventhomson21042 жыл бұрын
@@sarunassurvila7857 Providing your flue gas analysis is within tolerance etc, a service should be around 30 minutes on a combi. If you have to clean the heat exchanger or anything additional, then slightly longer, but a standard service would be around 30 minutes easily. Strip down service would be longer but would only be done according to Mis. 1.5 hours for a service is wild. I'd be sacked if I took that long.

these are all gas safety & combustion related tests. How about boiler efficiency test, would be nice as part of annual service. Efficiency is degraded because of scaling inside heat exchanger, particularly in hard water areas. Now the question is, why is descaling not part of regular service then? Some would call it maintenance. Couple of hours of boiler descaling plus system power flush would certainly extend boiler life, reduce chances of sludge blocking diverter valves, pressure sensors, air vents etc. Not to mention magna filter cleaning which should be part of service anyway.

My gas boiler service took gas engineer approx 5 minutes.Charged me 40 pounds.Am I missing something here? or next time should I show him FIRST THINGS FIRST what to do?
@thecarpetman76873 жыл бұрын
Well then all he did were readings and didn’t check expansion vessel, safety valve or pressure test while running….if your boiler is going over 3 bar then you may need to get the expansion vessel re- pressurised and the Safety valve checked.

Do you have to open the burner to check it? Someone told me that when doing a boiler service you only have to open the main heat exchanger and do a strip clean every 5 years
@25007kris6 жыл бұрын
On A rated boilers or premix burners if you like, you decide based on your analyser test! If combustion is ok and gas rate spot on then no need to take that burner off! Regardless of years!
@simonharper41992 жыл бұрын
Viessmann insist on a burner strip/clean annually (replace seal every 5 years) regardless of readings (and clean stainless exchanger with a soft cloth (never polish it! -looks wonderful but this introduces micro scratches on the metal which increase its surface area and life expectancy) and vinegar. Vaillant always used to want a burner strip annually . Had a customer who had a new patio laid in the winter. This combustion chamber was covered in indian sandstone dust that had been sucked in from outside

I just watched a video of a cockney geezer promoting an extended bi annual service his firm does on vokeras. Apparently the manufacturers instructions aren't necessarily wrong but they're not right because of blah blah blah, it looks like they strip the bloody things down and replace stuff that don't need changing. I'm torn between them just being old school or just taking the piss, I'll go for taking the piss..... If said cockney geezer was a doctor he'd have ignored my test results which indicated I was fine then replaced my perfectly good liver... I paid a tidy sum for my analyser and if says that boiler is running fine I don't mess with it..
@dionisienatea31375 жыл бұрын
I checked the expansion vessel, controls, gas rate, ignition and detection electrodes and was fine. i like the way this guy checked the air intake and flue integrity with the case open. But as said on 4:00, this is a typical service.

I had to buy a crap boiler like this last week, after my 38 year old boiler had a rubber seal that perished. Of course all the thieves in the trade joined the resounding chorus of.................It's obsolete mate !..........So 2500gbp down for want of a rubber seal.
@25007kris6 жыл бұрын
Well after 38 years it’ll be hard to find parts especially rubber as even sitting on a shelf they go brittle in that long a time, also nobody wants to pay the time engineers invest in searching for something that might not be out there any more. Talking from experience! And lastly on cast iron heat exchangers you’ll have to drain your most likely open vented system as the isolation valves will be seized as well and you’ll pay for a whole days labour for a gas engineer and still have a E rated boiler with less than 50% efficiency! They have done you a favour by replacing it!
@manofweed16 жыл бұрын
There you go. Wouldn't find anything like that nowadays. Just put in a new bulb yesterday, today it's blown !

@paulkramer25994 жыл бұрын
Let me try to help you as someone who has worked in the gas industry for many years..............If you are testing the Air Intake of the flue for products of combustion on a Room Sealed appliance you will need to have the Combustion Door ON and SEALED !!........If not then the test is absolutely pointless as the boiler will pull it's combustion air from the point of LEAST RESISTANCE......i.e. THE ROOM !.........If you are Still struggling to understand this then maybe you should be looking for a new career in something that will not endanger people's lives !!

@@mob9334 you should be gas engineer registered to service it first thing Second thing did you knew how to do tightness cumbusion ,pressures tools and stuff ?cos If you dont do it right this can create carbon monoxide which could result in death worst case scenario Third thing abut price I agree with you it should be around 50 and your boiler strips down and most engineer clean it properly unlike some out there And also we go through 4 year graft to get the qualification not that easy otherwise you won't see a shortage and plenty of work out there you don't pay it they go somewhere else don't matter

I can see Gas Safe pulling them Up for this………. Remove the burner but not replacing the seal, testing for back syphon products of combustion with the burner door open? No gas rate to see if the appliance is over / under gassed. No electricity check to see if appliances is safe, check to see if 3 amp fuse, to protect boiler and PCB. Co Alarms list goes on, no LDF after gas testing. No expansion vessel pressure check.
