Burt Reynolds, great sense of humor, cool, and was Quint on Gunsmoke for a couple of years in the mid 60's before a year or two as Dan August, A Quinn Martin Production. My first car, black 1977 Trans Am, got it in November 1976 for my 16th birthday, 7 months before Smokey and The Bandit came out. RIP.

This was just a few months before Deliverance which made him a star followed later by Smokey and the Bandit which made him a superstar. To me Deliverance was Burt Reynold's finest hour.

I have just been reading Judy Carne’s book, “Laughing on the Outside, Crying on the Inside: the Bittersweet Saga of the Sock it to me Girl.” She describes how she and Burt Reynolds fell in love, married, but eventually divorced, 1963-5. She found him too controlling. He married again, Loni Anderson, 1988-94. He also had a five-year affair with Sally Field, who dropped him when she decided it wouldn’t last. A great actor and attractive guy, but couldn’t settle into a long term relationship.

It seemed as though Burt were somewhat touchy about his heritage. Here on WML? he actually called Wally a dummy for one of Wally's questions concerning where Burt lived. But on another short-lived game show hosted by Tom Kennedy, Burt was inadvertently kidded about a 'reservation' when asked a question. Although it was an April Fool's response, Burt actually charged at Tom...
