Doesn’t matter - the kid was still just 14 when their Dad died. Orphans don’t distinguish between an adoptive dad and a bio dad. It’s not fair to the kid to have an elderly dad who’s not going to probably be around long.

Hey, Randy - Durante and my grandfather were difficult to tell apart - - from their similar sense of humor, and particularly due to the prominent proboscis on each of them! My Grandpa Chris would say farewell to Grandma each morning with one of these lines: "Hey Josie, take your fat can to the butcher's! (during the time when household fat was saved and used in the war effort). "Hey Josie - See ya later in the pigpen. Wear your hat so I'll know ya!" Grandpa Chris had an errand once that involved him picking up a formal photo portrait of his mother-in-law (Grandma Josie's mom), and a new toilet seat. Grandma opened the package to find her mother's face framed in the new toilet lid. Once during a formal dinner given at their home, Grandpa went into the kitchen to slice some more roast beef. While in the kitchen, he relieved himself of some troublesome air loudly enough that not only the diners noticed, but probably some neighbors as well. Grandma was thoroughly embarrassed (and ticked), but decided to ignore him, until he popped his head through the swinging kitchen door and announced "If I tuned it up, I could play the Star Spangled Banner!" Grandma was very proud of her famous relation, Francis Scott Key, and Grandpa never missed a chance to rib her about it.

I totally agree. I’ve been recently watching What’sMy Line And To Tell The Truth, both Goodson, Toddman productions. I enjoy both, but I Love WML. For whatever reason it seems like TTTT had many production flaws and they tried many concepts for a great idea of a program, but never nailed it like they did WML! They should have used John Daly to host both!

Faith Adams, correct, I agree. Today they have no problem throwing 5- or 6-minute blocs of commercials in your face. They've even started listing sitcoms as 38-minutes long so they can cram EVEN MORE ads in there.

Carol V; Mr. Durante was born in 1893 - this was from early 1965 so thus his turning 72.

Mc Hobbit: I'm sure Mr. Durante was still quite "robust" at 72, but he and his beloved wife "Margie" adopted their little CeCe. There's a wonderful story from his biography which relates when Jimmy Durante turned 75 (in 1968) a big celebration was planned for him in Las Vegas (where he often headlined). A huge birthday cake was brought out to great cheers and suddenly little CeCe (to the surprise of all) popped right out of the cake. Tears of joy streamed down her Dad's face (who thought CeCe was home in bed). I'm sure it was something Mr. Durante never forgot.

lissalives Smoot Me too. He's not to everyone's taste evidently (many seem to suggest he's a bighead....I rarely see anything of the sort!) but I feel I can see his character pretty well. To me he has a big warm heart and has showed evidence of being an emotional guy, a sentimental guy too and also had such respect and awe for those with talent whom he spent so much time with. He was not so self-obsessed while part of a community of rather self-obsessed people. I somehow feel he would be a great conversationalist on all manner of topics but also he would be thoughtful and sincere with it. Yes he's old-fashioned even for 1965!! Puts women on a pedestal but hey....I'm a man and I do too!! Yep like you....I like Bennett. Out of all the regular panellists he would be the one I'd have liked to meet.

Among other programs, they were the sponsors of the "Adventures of Superman" TV series in the 1950's. I read that many of the commercials featuring George Reeves are available on the DVD release of the shows first season. Tony the Tiger was the mascot from the beginning. They're G-R-R-R-EAT.

Yes, it adds even more of that nostalgic feel. Wish we could go back to these days. Life seemed so much more simple and pleasant.

VERY CLEAN SHOW. For the entire run of the show (1950-1967), manners without profanity were the norm. Dirty jokes were innocently expressed back then...

Dorothy and Arlene are both using their unmarried names, hence the Miss.

Arlene Francis' husband's name was Martin Gabel; her actual birth name was Arlene Francis Kazanjian. Dorothy Kilgallen's husband was Richard Kolmar; Kilgallen was her maiden name. Then, as now, it was the courtesy for actresses and other female celebrities to be referred to as "Miss" So-and-So, at least unless they used their husband's name as their professional surname (which most didn't do, and most don't do today, either).

The ladies did stand for a few other guests, but it was very rare. For example, they stood for Eleanor Roosevelt and Bishop Fulton Sheen (and Dorothy kissed his ring), and for a couple of regular contestants who were very elderly.
