For those asking why Arlene was the only original WML panelist used on this occasion(1973); of the original panelists, she was the only one alive at that time. Bennett Cerf had passed away two years earlier(8/27/1971) and of course Dorothy Kilgallen had died nearly a decade earlier(11/8/1965). John C. Daly, the original WML Host, was still alive but was effectively retired at this point. They could’ve used Steve Allen as a guest panelist in this episode and that would’ve been the closest possible facsimile to the original show.

@@hcombs0104 True, but Dorothy had died in November of 1965, and that CBS run of the show ran for almost two more years after that. Peter finished Harvard Law in 1972, so I figure that about the time of this episode, Dorothy had been gone for about ten years or so. 😞

I always love seeing the footage with family and spouses. ❤️ Peter is a wonderful, thoughtful man, very much in the vein of both of his parents. He has had some involvement with the arts in recent years…there is a venue in the Bay Area called the Arlene Francis Center, and he has had direct input and appearances there over the years. His parents would be extremely proud of the things he has done to help people who are socially disadvantaged. He’s a good human being, and I am privileged to count him among my friends.

@Celisar1 6 жыл бұрын
Margaret It’s not about the money and not about if it was a good home. It’s about the fact that putting someone in a home where other people take care of that person is the opposite of taking care yourself. Many people put their elderly away in homes. In some cases it might be necessary but praise deserve only the children who really make the effort to be there for their old parents themselves.

Tragic Story: Arlene Francis always wore her signature diamond heart necklace. She never took it off. After she died, her son Peter had it, and while getting out of a taxi in New York, he was mugged by a robber who stole it from him. It was the most seen heart-shaped necklace in the history of television. One can only hope that beautiful necklace carried a curse for the rat who stole it. Regardless, that necklace, and the lovely woman who wore it all those years on TV, will never be stolen from our hearts.

Keith, they are always rushing this show, and cutting the guests’ time, which I think is really rude. They have these little skits now that take up all the time. I wish they had left it like the original show.

Was Henry Morgan physically challenged when this show was made? I ask because he didn't get up and 'mingle' at the end like everyone else did. Could it be he was just being Henry Morgan, and was miffed because Soupy jumped his ID of Peter Gabel? It wouldn't be the first time that Henry has tsouris with other panel members.

I noticed as well that Peter didn't embrace his mother. He moved out of his home, starting when he went to boarding high school in another state (Deerfield Academy?). That is not that much time living together as a family. Manhattan has had many quality high schools for the well to do. I don't know why he couldn't have stayed living at home for high school.

I have a passing acquaintance with Peter Gabel through my job and to be honest at least in my opinion he is a very strange person. He's always very frumpy looking as if he needs a shampoo bath and access to a washing machine. I spoke to him on the street one day and later someone asked why I was talking to a homeless man.

Peter Gabel and one of Bennett Cerf's sons, Jonathan Cerf were friends. They attended Deerfield Boarding School at the same time. Upon graduation, both boys studied at Harvard. I think perhaps the frumpy look came later in Peter's life and was perhaps a Berkley influence. Arlene and Martin were close friends to Bennett Cerf and his wife. I was not familiar with Deerfield boarding school, so brought it up on the net. It has a beautiful campus.
