[From "Kovacs Corner" on KZfaq.com] - For many years, one of the mainstays of the CBS Sunday night schedule was the game show "What's My Line" hosted by ABC Vice-President in charge of news, special events and public affairs, religious programs, and sports John Daly (or "John Charles Daly" as he was introduced every week by panalist Bennett Cerf). This week blindfolded panalist Ernie Kovacs gets the opportunity to guess the identity of his lovely wife Edie Adams who appears as the "special guest". Edie was currently appearing as "Daisy Mae" on Broadway in her Tony Award winning performance of "Li'l Abner". Ernie was a semi-regular guest panalist on "What's My Line" ever since that chair was vacated by vaudeville, radio, and early television comedian Fred Allen. Fred died from a heart attack during a Sunday morning walk in New York City on March 17, 1956. The other WML regulars included Random House publisher and co-founder Bennett Cerf, actress, radio and television personality Arlene Francis, and newspaper columnist Dorothy Kilgallen. Conspiracy theorists suggest that Kilgallen's sudden and unexpected death in 1965 was predicated around her previously published columns concerning the validity of UFO's, the existence of extraterrestrials, and her soon-to-be-published bombshell revelations concerning the Kennedy Assassination. Mysteriously, all of Kilgallen's reporters notes and information concerning the assassination disappeared upon her death and were never again publicly accounted or seen.

She was a great historian for Mr. Kovacs. She hunted down his local shows, and his other performances. In her interview for the Archive of American Television, her research and preservation of Mr. Kovacs's work is astonishing. And the son she had during a marriage after Ernie's death is continuing the work!

Edie Adams was one of the very few performers from that era that you couldn't help but love and wished to see over and over. A truly great comedienne, farewell.

The exchange between these two was very similar to that which took place between Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme when Gorme was the mystery guest and Lawrence was on the panel. I think it was in '65.

This is great, I thought for sure Ernie knew it was Edie the whole time but apparantly he didn't. Thanks so much for posting it.

Yes, it was on KZfaq a month or so ago. Arlene and Company were all in black and looking grief stricken and somber. John Daly announced it, and said it was agreed that Dorothy would have wanted the show to go on as usual. And so it did. But their sense of loss and shock was and still is palpable. I wonder why that one was taken down and all these others remain. Curious.

He knew the instant she used the Marilyn voice saying "Heavens yes". You can see the light bulb go off. He loved her so much. It's a shame she didn't realize until he was gone what she had.

@doc1917 "MarkThompson01" was speaking in generalities. Obviously this specific episode of WML still had Dorothy alive.
