LOL interesting how this is an Odyssey video and comment and folks replying with Accord transmissions lasting a long time. The Newer 4th Gen still too early to tell, bit some are starting to fail. 2nd Gen was crap and had class action law suit failing anywhere from 70-90K miles, 3rd gen earlier models had issues through 2007, 2008 had slightly different transmissions, mine so far doing OK, but my long time Japanese only mechanic says can push to 170-180K miles if you change fluid religiously. Not much beyond that. So no not all Hondas last forever. Honda has invested significantly in their new transmissions, so I'm hoping the newer transmissions will improve. Hope they will handle their long standing issue with noise and engine mounts too.

The more gears, the better performance and mileage. More gears allows the engine stay at a lower rpm, but still get the same performance.

Making the gears and clutch ring thinner could also mean they receive higher stress proportionally compare to thicker ones. I am not sure if this is going to last as long as older thicker ones. There's also some uncertainty for newly designed thing ( doesn't matter what it is, from software to hardware ), and Honda's auto trany isn't as reliable compare to Toyota even that might have been changed, but I am just going to wait to see. I ain't buying new stuff like this especially new Odyssey now cost USD $30+k.

No official statement has been made regarding the release of the 2018 accord as of yet. I would expect to see something within the next couple of months to start building the hype of its release.

It is still coming this Fall. I am hoping they surprise at the NY auto show like they did with the Civic, but Honda keeps a tighter wrap on the Accord compared to the others.

@HondaPro Jason i drove and own odyssey since 1995 1999, 2002, 2008 and many Honda Acura from civic to accord to Integra Type R and GSR etc i can say that DOHC is way better, unless you have a really light weight stick shift like my 2010 Fit the torque just isn’t enough for SOHC Hybrid makes perfect sense if Honda can get more powerful electric motor in

tradersato My 2012 has the cylinder deactivation, but burns no oil. Your dealer is feeding you a line of bull. The cylinders are lubricated from the bottom, and no additional lubrication is required with that feature. I normally can go 9,000 miles between oil changes without adding oil ever. 80k mileage currently on the Odyssey. Most manufacturers consider one quart of oil every 3,000 miles to be acceptable. I worked with GM for 5 years, and they had the same problem on some vehicles.

They used to use lght truck transmissions. The Gen3's were basically light truck transmissions. with 2008+ being more reliable than 2005-2007. Forget the 2004 and earlier ones, they die regularly below 100K miles. The Gen 4's were bad, but there were some cases of failures but not as much as the Gen2/3. Also Road noise and engine mounts were a common problem. Oh and one more thing those pesky nylone door rollers that cause the sliding doors to jam. Not sure if they still have those for 2010 and newer.

Why would you not take that new found extra space and added one more gear. Then you could add clutch material and increased fluid capacity to increase liability with a little bonus in fuel economy.

My Accord has the six speed...manual!!! It's great transmission and fun to drive. Too bad they are so hard to find.

I haven't had many problems with a belt. We replaced it at 110k, 220k, and now 330k isn't too far away on our 2003 Accord V6.

It's the same J35 engine. This engine is old, mechanical valves, timing belt, no cam phasing, old SOHC design. But I believe the Odyssey will get the improved MDX/TLX engine that has VTEC on both intake and exhaust, plus direct injection.

Once bitten, twice shy! I'm guessing you, or a close family member wasn't affected by the Accord/Odyssey Automatic gearbox failure fiasco. Can Honda make great F1 engines? Most certainly. Can honda dominate Moto GP? Absolutely. Can Honda look after their loyal customers properly who were affected by the automatic transmission failures? Well in hindsight they probably could have. But........................... They Didn't!

Problems with Honda's 4 speed autos? Total nonsense. I purchased new a 1991 Accord that went to over 350,000 miles on the same transmission. I can't tell you how many trips from NJ to Las Vegas one of my kids drove it to go to school. The only transmission I know of that was faulty was their early 2000's new at the time 5 speed auto. I purchased new an Acura 3.2TL. Acura swapped out the bad tranny and put in a new one. Currently the car has 228,000 miles on the replaced transmission. Honda in fact did help, they extended the tranny's warranty to 7 years and 100,000 miles.

My 99 Accord V6 had 253,000 miles when I traded it. No issues. 98 Accord we have also has 190k on the original.
