A few years ago i bought the BR-361 (Rosewood Back and sides) this guitar is an absolute gem! It has an amazing tone and full range and is perfect for finger style guitar. I was looking at a Martin 028-VS but am so glad i looked at alternatives as this guitar is so much more useable at its price point.

Played a Blueridge dread last year at a small shop in north Georgia. It was around $1k and it was insanely good. Like you, it was definitely a bit too ornate for my taste, but the sound and playability were undeniable. You should check out the Alvarez masterworks md60bg if you get a chance. At around $600 it punches way above its weight class. The specs are near perfect, at least for me, but the sound and playability are phenomenal

Excellent video. Not sure how I missed this one. I always thought their finish was very heavy. I owned a OM mahogany and spruce, 143 I think. It sounded dull to me and was sticky on the neck. I forget what I traded it for. But I think I’ll give them another try. Thank you

You’ve done this before haven’t you lol? Really good knowledge about some of the labour intensive things that makes it very affordable. A comparable Collings would have one piece neck with carved headstock I’d imagine? Also one small thing I’ve noticed is the Collings or other high end guitar would have really nice, sharp, clean edges on the headstock as opposed to being rounded off more. They always sound really good to me these Blueridge guitars. Totally agree about the torch inlays, anything less than vintage quality and they’re just gonna look tacky.

I bought a 2015 Blueridge BR-163N (with a Fishman Matrix Infinity Pickup pre-installed) on eBay about a year ago on the strength of really good reviews on YT. It cost me £475 here in the UK (roughly $620). It is, without doubt, a beautifully built guitar, and plays and sounds better than most that retail at double/treble that price (a few of which I've owned previously). I bought it as a backup for my Canadian 2007 Larrivée OM-03, which is the best guitar I've ever owned, and although the Blueridge can't quite compete on tone, it is a great standby for gigging and recording, where its quality shines through. I'd thoroughly recommend them as a make.

I’m a luthier, and the way that they built the neck is technically better in terms of stability and strength. I build a lot of my own guitars doing the exact same method. The problem with having a one piece neck is you end up with a lot of short grain right at the headstock, which makes it significantly prone to easy breakage. If I am doing a one piece design, I usually laminate a pinstripe right down the center line, which gives it loads of strength. Don’t take this commentary as anything but a little information on building techniques. And I totally agree, blue ridge is one of the best bang for the buck instruments out there. I’ve purchased them for friends before, did a proper setup, and sent them along. The setup is basically garbage from the factory. But, after all said and done, you basically have Martin clones that have been photocopied many times to where certain lines become blurred, if that makes any sense.

Felix Hackenberg sure. Thinking of wood as a big bundle of straws, their strength relies mostly on their length. If you cut them at an angle, such as what occurs on a headstock, they become significantly shorter, and less strong. Make sense?

During the time that i bought and sold several guitars, I tried a Blueridge. It was a BR-43. Solid Sitka Top, laminated Cocobolo sides and back. This guitar sounded amazing. I agree that the headstock was overly done. I also didn't like the small size of the headstock. All in all, the guitar was a great sounding and playing guitar that was well worth the price.

@@JeremySheppard Jeremy, I had a Yamaha FG730 a few years ago and it sounded great, but I sold it last year because I bought a blemished Guild D150 CE natural. I got it for $699.00. They are solid Spruce top, and solid rosewood back and sides, but polyurethane finish, made in China. This guitar blew me away, it sounds so loud and clear. Would you consider a video comparing a Blueridge and the Guild D150. The new Guild D150 now has a plastic battery compartment cover and sells for under $1000.00. For me, that's a deal breaker. I don't like plastic covers or extra holes in my acoustics. Thanks, God Bless Henry.

Then i noticed it was the only one they had left. Short story I took it home. And I absolutely love it. Better than my Martin. Its nit to ornate but just enough that it looks good. But the sound is what I'm,after and it defiantly. Has that bright blue grass sound. Smooth low action. And great sustain With booming volume. For a standard dread naught. That is. It my baby and will never part with ot till jesus calls me home maybe i just got lucky with the quality. But if this is what blueridge is making. As rule. Of thumb then. I'm impressed. Because I,own several guitars. And this one is defiantly one of my favorites

Meanwhile the price of the BR-341 has gone up to nearly 1400 bucks. Your comment on the too ornate headstocks is not up-to-date. Blueridge hasn't used the banners since 2016 or so. Nowadays they write the name in positive MOP or abalone, and that's it. I bought a few NOS ones with the banner, so I saved some money on those. So, before I knew it, I became a Blueridge collector. I love them all, from the small parlors to the big BG-2500 Super Jumbo.

When you talk about what you dislike about them (appearance) it sounds like you should like Eastman's all solid sub $1000 guitars. They sound amazing, and have the subtlety that you like.

Hi Jeremy, I enjoy your channel, but the Blueridge BR341, 361 and 371 are the equivalent of a Martin size "0" or "concert." Yes the restringing is a headache the way you did it - far too messy. See: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNqFZrKc1Kixm3k.html

@@legalize.brokkoli I personally would look for a more beat up good sounding guitar but I thought to my self what would I look for..and around $1000 I have seen some used D16 or OM16 Martins privately sold..those are nice for the money. I personally have a beat up Gibson B45-12 ..1966..like Id give that for around $900. 12 String like Gordon Lightfoot. It was a really good sounding guitar until I decided to put extra light Elixir Strings on it..but regular lights can go back on. If anyone wants to try it I'm in Central New Jersey.Come to think of it if there is the 6 String equivalent to this 12 String ..B45..from around this age and earlier..now that would be a nice guitar to try. But as these got into the later 60's into 1970 they are pieces furniture.

I completely agree. I have purchased all of my eight acoustic guitars on craigslist and all for less than half of the usual new street price. One example is my $2000 Martin OM which I paid $400 for. Another is my $5000 Avalon which I paid $1100 for. Another example is my $600 recording king which I paid $100 for pristine. Then there is my $3200 Taylor which I paid $1250 for and my $3500 Laughlin which I got for FREE on Craigslist! Etc.

Jeremy Sheppard it’s taking care of our own. If there’s ANYTHING we DONT need China for it’s creating our own original music and instruments but the country doesn’t treat people right and once they have the opportunity they will tell US what to do and America needs America’s people working and to again become an independent sovereign country

Using one piece of wood for the neck on a $1000 guitar should be automatic. Top end guitars aren’t where you scrimp wood responsibly. That’s for Epiphones
@JeremySheppard

Taylor does finger joints on nearly everything. Martin has done small "wings" on the side of their headstock. Gibson has done wings too. It's pretty wasteful to only use one piece.

Saga is a USA owned company. Martin parlor guitars are in a totally different price range. You need €4.5K for a 00-18 nowadays. The BR-341 costs less than 1/3.
