*Heads up:* unfortunately the Apogee Element & Ensemble series has been discontinued since this video 😢Apogee has plenty of other awesome interfaces that I've reviewed (Symphony Desktop, BOOM, Duet 3). But unfortunately at this time (October 2023) there aren't really any audio interfaces out there that take full advantage of Logic's Audio Device Controls. This is lame, and something that needs to change across the board. I *highly* recommend that each of us let audio device developers know that they should support Logic Pro users via this *open API* that Apple offers! Why the heck not?? Based on the amount of Logic screenshots I see in ads and promos (plus talking to companies that contact me), Logic users are a sizeable group. It's time developers provide direct monitoring and control solutions right from Logic Pro. Anyways - that's the scoop. I hope Apogee (or any other company) takes up the mantle of delivering direct control and monitoring.

I've only ever had an Apogee One. I love it so much. It's what every beginner needs. Really great AD/DA converters, 2 inputs, and full logic integration. The built in mic is just the cherry on top. Plus if you've got a laptop, it's great for getting takes elsewhere besides the studio.

Hi Chris, nice to finally put a face to the channel! This video would have to be perfect timing for me. I'm due for an upgrade as I've been using the Mbox Pro 3 interface. It's been awesome but has recently been dropped from Avid for any future update support. I've been wanting to update my OS to Catalina but haven't because other users have reported they're Mbox Pro 3 units no longer work. I'm definitely looking into this Apogee Element 24. Thank you very very much!!!

I had the exact same issues with UA that you did. I didn't like the UA hardware-dependent aspect of their plugins, and I didn't like the fact that I had to bounce back and forth between the UA interface and the Logic interface while working on my projects. I certainly didn't want to go through a whole new learning process to get UA up and running. I've been using an old Apogee Duet for years, and I love everything about it.

Love your channel Chris! I've had the Element 24 for about 2 years now and it's really an amazing interface for Logic Pro X; the Direct monitoring function makes latency a non issue and puts it in another league and the built-in preamps sound great. They're clean but there's more weight and spatial quality to them than other built-in preamps I've used. And of course the converters are excellent. Like you, I didn't expect that I'd use the Apogee plugins so much, but I've been pretty blown away by them. The ModEQ and ModComp are absolute workhorses, up there with FabFilter quality, and the Opto-3A and Pultec EQs are great color options. I've heard some great recordings made with the UAD interfaces but am also not a fan of their proprietary model, however I do respect them as company. But there are plenty of great plugins to be had nowadays and for Logic/Mac Apogee Element is absolutely seamless. Keep up the great work!

UAD is a great system and now with the new Luna coming on board (looks like a new DAW) we will have to wait and see how it performs and integrates. This is an excellent episode! Without a doubt Apogee’s integration with Logic is ‘bar none’. I originally wanted an Ensemble, but ended up investing into UAs Apollo Twin Duo.. spoke with engineers from both throughout the years at NAMM, and now I’m stoked to revisit Apogee and mix ecosystems upon the release of LUNA, and the launch of Symphony Desktop... I honestly cannot afford to integrate an x6, let alone an x8.. so I figured pairing an Element 46 with the Symphony Desktop should be the best ‘bang for the buck’ solution for my setup. Apogee is truly the hardware interface of choice with Logic.

I'm new at Logic Pro and sound design, bought a Focusrite Scarlett a few months back. I'm very happy with the ease of use of the Scarlett and qualitywise it's good enough for my amateur recordings. The fact they weren't sold for +800€ was a big selling point for me as a beginner. Maybe when i've got more knowledge about sound design I'll look into a more expensive audio interface and will definitely take a look at the Apogee products.

It definitely makes sense to use an integrated interface with logic. Sometimes its easy to forget, via logic, your controlling the apogee interface as its so deeply integrated and you think its a logic feature. This is a great discussion video. Really well structured and no sensationalism. Its like a blues riff. Soulful and harmonious.... Cool.

I have the UAD Arrow as I just upgraded my computer and wanted a thunderbolt 3 interface. I came from using Apogee ONE which is great and great with Logic so my initial thought was to stay with Apogee and go with the Element 24. Sadly, they have been discontinued so taking my good friend’s recommendation I dove into the UAD world with the Arrow (now labeled as Apollo Solo). I initially wanted the Apollo Twin X DUO but it was too cost prohibitive. I can always upgrade to that later but I absolutely love my Arrow so far. I’m still learning it though and I’m glad to have Luna on board.

I own and use Antelope Audio interfaces, and I like the great routing system and built in plugin processing, but I don't use the built in plugins for the same reason: I dont want to be bound to the interface for mixing. I do love the conversion and preamps of the interface, and it works well with my Mac. It seems like there is quite a mixed bag on reviews on Antelope Audio interfaces between different computing platforms, but I don't have any issues with mine.

I went from an Echo Audiofire8 to a MOTU 828 to an Apollo x16. I hear you on the console being an extraneous thing, but honestly the plugins are so good--either no latency when tracking or used when mixing. And so long as the device doesn't break, I think Thunderbolt will be something that will be used for a good long while, or at least supported through dongles. And, for the price of two or three pieces of actual kick-ass analog hardware, you get an interface plus as many very well modeled instances of kick-ass analog hardware as you can run.

I had an Apogee Duet FW. I don't remember which Logic or OS update broke it, but it was pretty much unuseable after a certain point. I have been using an Apogee Ensemble Firewire for many years, but sadly it won't work with my newest 2018 MacBook Pro (and the latest OS), so I need to choose a new interface for this computer. @@xoxo-pp7ru umm, really depends on what you mean by "better." If you're referring to the Scarlet mic preamps, maybe they have more character than RME, which are known for just being really flat and neutral, nothing special about them. But since I don't use the mic preamps (I have a separate BAE lunchbox with Neve mic pre and compressor) I only use the RME strictly for getting audio and MIDI in and out of the computer. Also, I don't know how complicated your routing is, but have you ever used RME Totalmix? It is probably the most confusing yet powerful mixer software for RME interfaces. This alone is a reason to use RME interfaces, especially if you score for picture. Just my 2 cents

Nacho Rondán There are similarities is that regard, but it’s far more economical, to me at least, to have logic and a Mac as opposed to buying every upgrade rollout for your DAW. Plus, it’s a matter of personal preference, I like the format of a Mac better for music applications, but that’s just me.

I have a Focusrite Clarett 4pre (Thunderbolt) and admittedly a not to old Mac (iMac 27" 2017). I had some latency issues with one version of Logic Pro X (or if it was Mac OS) but now I only rarely turn on low latency in Logic. And since I often record myself, I think I prefer physical pots for the preamps. Having said that I have not tried using an interface controlled from Logic. Humbly, Ylan

Hey, Man.. I want to ask you if this would work with thunderbolt 1.. or is it only TB 2 and/or 3.. and if not, what would you suggest I do to have it be compatible with Thunderbolt 1. Thanks

Intresting. i went from Apogee quartet to the Apollo twin X and i feel it sounds much better. More seperation in the sound

Put a Prism Sound converter on your mix and you’ll throw the Quarter and the Apollo in the trash.

The new Apogees are a massive step up in quality to their previous interfaces, so depending on what version your Quartet was it might not apply to this interface. I had the first Duet and then tried the Ensemble and didn't get along with either - too bright and kind of sandpapery. These ones are smooth as butter

‘More separation of the sound’? What does that mean? You panned your tracks left and right?

Hi Chris, I’ve just bought imac 27 to replace my MacBook Pro. I’m still new with logic as i am now trying out the free trial. As for audio interface apogee element 24 is out of stock. But i do have Avid fast track solo but not in use. Is it okay if i use that interface or shall I wait and order for Apogee instead. For your info i also have ik multimedia package of irig pro duo Studio Suite deluxe. Any good advise for me. Thanks

I make electronic music in Logic using mostly software. Looking for a new interface with good headphone output. Been looking at Audient and Twin X but after this video I’ll have to ask if maybe Apogee duet could be a good choice?

I've owned an Apollo Twin Duo since I started "producing" from home and it's just fine... I love your video and enthusiasm; I seriously want to grab an Apogee Element 24 but it looks like they don't make them anymore? Everything on Musicians Friend, Sweetwater and Reverb is [used] status? Hmmm 🤔

I could use some help.. I have 2 Tascam DM-3200 . I am using Logic X .. The thing is, I got them years ago. They are in Super condition . I am not working so, I built a studio in my house , for these things . Will they work with Logic Pro , smoothly ..Tascam , is no longer making them so, they aren't fetching much , in the resale market.. I have not used them , since I got them .. But they were carefully stored and moved , to my new house... Anyway, is it too much to use them or am I gonna be ok? Thank you.

Im really interested in the Apollo duo 3 with Logic I got a new M1 MacBook air, and the form factor and portability is now as important as audio quality. Have you gotten your hands on one of those to test?

I've been trying to record my grand piano with Audient iD14 MK2 and Earthworks PM40. I record it to Logic Pro and listen to it. I'm not loving the sound quality. It comes out very dry and not natural. If I set the gain level higher, I get the clipping issue. If the gain level is lower, it sounds flat and dry. What can I do? How can I get cleaner and more natural sound?
