I'm asked "What flannels shirts do you wear" a lot. So here are the best flannels out there for outdoors, hiking, backpacking, survival, etc. I like wool and synthetic materials in my flannels. Cotton is a killer, so the best flannels out there do not have cotton in them. They are made of wool and synthetics like the ones I show here from Smartwool, Eddie Bauer, Marmot, Outdoor Research and Icebreaker.

I know a farmer that wears flannel shirts 365 days a year. Probably July and August he will roll up the sleeves.

I’m a general contractor and do the same. Cotton flannels feel the best, I have found, compared to other shirts when you are sweating in the summer as long as they are billowie

Appreciate the advice man. I been liking Eddie Baur the past few years for budget gear wear. Shirts are a good buy there at end of year. I got a orange hooded puffy storm jacket there last year. Very satisfied with it. Might be my warmest and best fit.

My first wearing flannels at age 20 and I remember people calling me "Canadian lumberjack" definitely great fit to wear in fall and winter. Keep it up

I found them even good to wear in the summer long as you don't wear an undershirt and roll up the sleeves. Bonus if u can get one in cotton so it breathes good. Altho even some polyester can breathe and wick (?) The flannel might be the most versatile piece of kit there is 😮

Wore flannel shirts to the office on cold days. They are so comfortable. When it’s summer polyester polo shirts, silk shirts, or nylon fishing shirts are my go to options for work clothes.

Nice recommendations. I have a few of the Weatherproof Vintage flannels and those are good budget alternative. Also Wrangler's ATG line has some shirts with cool features like zip pockets, patch elbows and even glasses cleaner cloth sewn in the placket.

When I was a teenager used to wear flannel red lumberjack and Kodiak construction boots,and a pack of darts in the left pocket.Sometimes tucks my jeans in the boots.

@@chronometa yeah I have long arms and some shirts have ample arm length and some come up way short when I reach forward. Huge variances between brands. Some are also way narrow in the shoulders and the bigger sizes are made for big beer guts as opposed to a more athletic build with wide shoulders

I just got my new Bass pro shop/Cabela's 2021 hunting Master catalog in the mail today and I just seen some of the greatest colors of flannel shirts. When I get up tomorrow morning, I'll make my coffee and look through to see what color they have and order them. while I'm drinking my coffee in the morning.

CaptainBerz Nice Flannels. I need to get out of wearing sweatshirts and sweaters all the time. The last two with the big red and black squares we used to call Lumberjack Shirts when I was younger. I had one I wore as a light jacket.

Wonder how old your A&F wool flannel is. I’d be interested in seeing the tag and helping you date it. The oldest wool shirt that was A&F I’ve ever seen and touched was a 1920s miner shirt. Good old Abercrombie stuff is hard to find! So good job 👏

Heavy weight cotton is the standard for high quality flannels. Polyester is really indicative of poorer quality materials in shirts. They simply break down quickly and do not last as long. Wool flannels are good and can retain their appearance over many years as long as they are stored right and protected against moths.

You need to look up the advantages and disadvantages of polyester. Your statement is not true, especially if polyester is combined with some other materials. A good example would be Kuiu flannels. At 100% polyester the biggest disadvantage would be breathability. Higher quality polyester blends can avoid that though

Polyester’s long, stable polymers make this fabric strong and resilient. Because of this, Polyester also holds its shape well and doesn’t easily get stretched out. Despite its strength, 100% polyester is a supple, lightweight fabric.

@@GCBR-Dog-Training K don't care. Polyester does not belong in a real flannel. Wool or heavy cotton cloth are the only two options, and it has to be made where they were originally made, the USA. Polyester flannels are trash for keeping someone warm, they aren't the real deal just a cheap material made overseas after brands destroy their namesake and offshore. Lol @ namedorpping some random no name company that just contracts to make stuff in china. I'll take my wool Pendleton vintage flannels or Big John or Five Brother vintage heavy chamois cloth made in USA flannels any day

Nice video, being from PA, I thought you would have a Woolrich in there. I have several from the Outlet store. There Alaskan Shirt Jac is my favorite. It has fast snaps, but itchy on bare skin. Get in very cold weather

I like cotton better. They have better ware resistance and it won't melt and glue to my skin the moment a flame gets near the fabric.

I only have brixton bowery flannels I like the look. But lately the material has changed to lighter stuff just a smidgen lighter to me that's being cheap. Thanks for your impute.

Outerknowns blanket shirts are my favorite cotton flannels. As for wool, I love my Pendleton work shirt. It runs pretty large though.

@@CaptainBerz I just received mine. Very nice quality. They don't say what material they use, but it must be synthetic with their claims of no shrinking etc. You should check one out.

The problem I have with flannels is I love wearing them to work and they get ruined. I prefer a lightweight and I want quality products. I don’t wear t shirts under my flannels either, I can’t stand it so peeling a layer off isn’t an option. I guess I’ll just keep throwing money away lol.

Check out Imogene and Willie. They make all their garments in Tennessee. They have a couple really good looking flannels. And it’s nice to support our small US manufacturing instead of all the mass-produced overseas stuff.

@@JonDoe-gr2np if you think that’s steep, you’re just scratching the surface of expensive flannels. For some of the nicest flannels in the world, you’re looking at about $360-$380. I’m talking about Iron Heart’s ultra heavy flannel made with Aspero cotton from the Andes in Peru. They have the best patterns and it’s a crazy 12 oz fabric single brushed on the outside and double brushed on the inside.

Outdoor research feedback shirt. It’s man made but it’s totally legit. You could ski in it all day and it’s wicks and doesn’t hold moisture. ( unlike cotton) You then could wear the same shirt for a few pints 🍺 on the town. 5star reviews on the outdoor research website. Mine still looks brand new after 5 years of ownership

Greetings from Sweden I bought my first flannel shirt from Dickies (Red) last year, unfortunately i put it on the dryer locker after washing and it was a disaster, it went from a regular XL to a slim fit large, my point is :ALWAYS buy a size larger beacuse they will shrink on laundry, and NEVER put the shirt on the dryer locker!

Ll bean do a really cool insulated range. Heard good things but, I'm yet to get my first flannel. Ll bean and woolrich are my first picks I think. The websites are easy to navigate. Hope that helps from someone in the same position

Dixxxon, Legendary Whitetails and Filson are my favorites. But Filson wants you to sign your soul to the devil at checkout, I have to be a little buzzed while shopping to accept those prices but they’re worth it. Practically Dixxon and LW are it for me.

Cotton does not retain heat well when it is wet. Also, cotton dries more slowly compared to wool/synthetic materials. This information is important when spending a lot of time outside (ex. hunting, fishing, camping, etc.).

Sherpa-lined shirt is not totally lined with Sherpa. Bought a men’s Sherpa-lined hoodie and the sleeves were just lined with a cotton lining, not Sherpa. Feel ripped off.
